Questions about FishPond Confluence Net Release - Fly Fishing
Q:
11 or 12 pound real ease which is it?
Answer: 8lb magnet pull force
Q:
What weight does the magnets support up to?
Answer: - 8lb magnet pull force
Answer: My net release is attached to a midsized net which is about 2lbs, however the magnet is an 8lb pull force.
Answer: Fishpond specs say it's an 8lb pull force, and in our experience, it easily holds all of the small to mid-size fishpond nets with ease.
Product reviews of FishPond Confluence Net Release - Fly Fishing
JERZEYBOY : Does anyone ever read these reviews? Doubtful; no one ever responds!
Jury is still out on this one. Can't figure out how to best use. Magnet is too hard to separate without severely disrupting what it is attached too. Confusing attachment to net: need some instructions. Missing an attachment part: rubber connector (not in package: I know it''s missing because I bought two of these!) Quality is great, as usual, but utility is doubtful!
phil : Good Magnet
This magnetic net release has a much stronger magnet than others I've tried and disliked. Going through brush, rhododendron, etc., my net stays put instead of getting pulled off my vest. It stays put until you want it for netting a fish! Good length of cord as well. Very Good net release, and this is the third or fourth brand I've tried over the years. 5 stars
Capt. Gizmo : These two just won't "hook up"!
Like other reviewers, I didn't have good luck with this system. I've tried numerous others, but wanted this one...yes...partly because of the nice looks...ya got me. The lanyard IS nice, and the rubber net attachment IS nice and secure and easy on your net's finish.
But...AND A BIG BUT IT IS...the magnets WILL NOT ENGAGE BLINDLY behind your back!! They also do NOT align when mated to each other. I'm critical because even the cheapest ones from SAM'S, here on amazon or eBay, DO mate correctly.
So, WHY do they not engage blindly? It's a matter of physics and a poor/sloppy design. There is too much play with the rubber holder and rings that attach the magnet to the net. So what happens, is the magnet flop over, thus hiding the magnetic surface. As we've discovered, it's virtually impossible for them to "hook up" without another helping hand!!
I've made my own, previous, attachment system that worked PERFECTLY, using a rubber wrap around the net, and then a couple very strong wire-ties to hold the magnet DIRECTLY to the net, without ANY rigs. The result was a rigid attachment that made the magnet face right side up, and mate with no problem once you got anywhere near it's partner.
Wish it was better designed...it's a nice looking, and well made product.
Fool me once : Hardware is cheap
I don’t know what’s been happening to fishpond lately but two years ago I bought this net leash and it was amazing! I decided to get a second and first time using the leash ring straightened like a cheap slinky when I grabbed my net… I have replaced the ring with a sturdy after market one, but two years ago fishpond was the best… now, shoddy components, lousy floatant holders, what is going on….

Love it....

Nice net release finally a magnet that works!

Jon M. : Do not use with Fishpond Summit sling
I got this thinking I could attach it to my Summit sling pack, but the attachment point hangs too low. With the net attached it hams well below my waste and into the water. It also leaves the net in a precarious position when you rotate the pack to your front to access it. This seems better suited for a vest. Also, the magnet is VERY strong. It takes some effort to pull your net off.
R M P : Four Stars
works well
Albert Turner : Five Stars
Works great with my net!
Paul S. : Not worth the extra $20
Bought this at a local fly shop. Figured with it being three times the price of other net retrieval magnets it would be good. It sucks. I got rid of the lanyard after the first use. The magnet doesn't hold any better than the less expensive ones. About the only thing about that is any better than a ten dollar magnet is it's looks. The looks and lack of any better performance is not worth the extra 20 bucks.
GrooveColo : Great looks don't mean everything...
Like others, I found the magnets extremely strong. I too had a little trouble with hook up. The magnets are inserted into the housing (green) and the lip between the two magnets is tight and forms an excellent edge and seal. For the blind hookup to happen (as in life), the edges need to be a bit more blunt and forgiving. I also found the rings not quite strong enough to provide for the quick and sudden yank that one does when netting the big one.
The rubber gasket for wrapping around the hoop end of your net is a nice touch. It helped in position the magnet for easier hookup.
For Fishpond and the price point, I was expecting more.
