No Steve, this isn't your grip!!
I love customers that let me experiment on their rods!!
I hope I didn't jump the gun by posting this. This thing may end up in my 'Grips I'm not too proud of' drawer before it's all over!
Sweet. I don't have a band saw, but I did just get a scroll saw given to me. Now if I can just get it to work haha.

Isn't that a scroll saw? The one I had given to me runs like it works, but when you go to cut something it won't cut???? Brand new blade too. I'll have to tinker with it a little.

Nope, it's a band saw.

Scott, you are killing me! What on earth could you be doing for this design?
I'm watching with interest.
Diagonal stripes alternating in quadrants?

Yes and no. I will keep that in mind for a future design though.

Me too!
8.5 on creativity......2 on execution. Got a few more pieces to glue together yet. Not real happy with how its coming together. We shall see once they hit the lathe!!
Was kinda happy with these 2 grips at lunch.
Then I tried to glue the last 4 pieces in the one on the left. It blew apart when I clamped it! Grrrr. Guess I'm trying to rush it and the last joint wasn't fully cured.

And I'm still fighting with the one that isn't Steve's. Its now in 2 pieces instead of 6, but I'm having a hard time getting those 2 pieces clamped together and aligned. I've made 4 attempts and its being a bear.

I'm sure it can't be any harder that getting a particular blank from St Croix.

How can I be Scott's close friend, Pro Staff manager, and confidential sounding board for grip ideas if his grip ideas don't remain confidential?????

Touche'
Finally got the thing together. No Steve, this isn't yours.
Still not sure it's gonna come out the way I want. It might end up on the scrap pile!

That is Insane!!! Is mine anything like that?
Soooo..... Turn it already. You are driving us nuts.
Looking forward to seeing this.
what a cool project. Along for the ride. Custom grips is something I don't see a lot of and wish there was someone close enough to teach me.
Looks like it is actually gonna work. Here's a little something to chew on for the night!
Rough turned the inlay.
Holy H*ll, that is BAD @SS!!!!
Really Cool ~

I wonder how that would look with a gloss blue/green flip blank?

If you like that, I'll give it another shot! I think I have the technique down and I plan on making some clamping jigs. I think this pattern with green burl block and possibly light inlays would be sharp.
WOW can't think of anything else to say.
Very nice! I like it!
Jeff
Awesome!
I like it a lot, and I bet it would work well for a retirement gift for an air force guy. Don't know there rank well enough to know what that would be
Didn't want to start a new thread for this. Border Colie themed rod. I had 2 instructions. make it hot pink and put a border collie face on it.
The name has been scrubbed from the pic just in case someone is snooping.
Black Alconite tangle free guides.
Kigan XLA hook keep and Batson FAWC-B winding check
American Tackle 16mm Aero seat with threads trimmed and the grip from hell!
That handle looks great on that pink blank.
Isn't posting porn against the rules?
Really sweet. I always follow your builds and have to ask. No one ever wants a tennesse grip?

Noone but me and basserjim. I have at least 2 Tennessee grip rods slated for myself in the near future. I have the cork glued up for my new DS rod, I just have been too busy with other builds. It will be started soon as I'd really like to fish it and my new TwinPower this season!

I love a Tennessee grip. All my current spinning rods are TN grip except the surf rod Scott built me, I have one more in the works that won't be - it's a tube rod, and going to be killer when it's done... Other than that, I say TN all the way.

Jim,
Are you going with a Rod Geeks blank for that Tube Rod?

No, it's a forest green St Croix SCV......that has been 4 years in planning! Lol

You really have to stop soon. You are causing me to want to spend more money than I should. I had talked myself out of the need for a ban saw and lathe. Not so much anymore. Watching this thread unfold is like a fishing crack addiction... And I can't "Just say NO"...

Lathe first. There's a lot you can do with that before you need to get a bandsaw! I was doing elliptical inlays in cork with my miter saw for years. Biggest reason for the bandsaw was EVA. the miter saw didn't like the EVA.
My first elliptical using miter saw.
front grip inlay and fighting butt.

I know it's not bandsaw related, I just didn't want to start a new thread for one pic.
Sweeet!! what's up with the butt?

That's the extension. I hadn't installed it yet.
Rough turned the grip inlay and fighting butt tonight. I think we have a winner!
Amazing work,Scott!
Scott, I don't know what to say! That is Incredible!! I can't believe that is going on my 11wt. That rod will be legendary.

Steve you are going to have a lot of pressure on you to catch something legendary on that legendary rod.
THAT IS INCREDIBLE! Nice shaping on the Full Wells grip. That reel seat looks so sharp! It will look even better with that Remix mounted to it.
I made it a little bigger than the pattern. It just seemed too small. It feels good in hand.
That's awesome
I'm not a fly fisherman but with that rod I could be. Looks great Scott & Steve.

Dwight, are you getting anything special done to your rod (i.e., signiture Scott Handle design, ornate decal, etc.)?
He is getting a grip like the pink border collie rodgeeks but with the light and dark flopped.
