Now to decided on what to do for a build first. Was thinking something for wading the river for smallies I need a good two piece travel rod for when I stop at the creek and walk the banks for small mouth.

Thanks, and we both gotta get rid of our first spouse before we take that leap again maybe in the future. She loves to fish though maybe I'll build her a rod too.

I warned her it was gonna be bad I showed her all the stuff on mud hole. And I've already got the how many poles line when she seen all my current set ups.

Thinkim gonna go with one of the MHX kits for my first build since its all included.
Think im gonna go with the 7' light rod from thr white line up. Says its for finesse and walleye i want to use it for river bank fishing for smallies. I usually just use small grubs,tubes,jigs,small craw cranks.

Not a bad choice. The finish on the white blanks is nice. Pack your wraps really tight though or the white will show through. You may want to practice on a dark blank for your first.

Good Idea. I'm still working on a pink blank rod for Taylor and it shows if you are not careful.

I'm gonna be ordering a few blanks this week hopefully to start working on. I don't have to pay child support anymore now that I have custody which freed up 200 a week.....hello fishing gear lol

Once you decide on a blank, give that supplier a call and most will assist you on the components. On my first build that wasn't a kit, I ordered guides that were made for a largeer diameter blank. I ended up calling them and they not only pointed me in the rights direction, they told me the exact size winding checks to use.

Is he a rep for MHX or some one at mud hole?
Also my good buddy asked if I can fix one of his veritas rods that's not under warranty anymore. It's missing a eye I think third from tip broke off when he fell on some rocks. Was thinking carefully sand off the old guide and wrap then put a new one in its place.

I've seen videos where you can heat the epoxy with a lighter and then peel it off with a razor. Not done it myself but saw it researching a repair I need to make on a Fenwick.

This will probably take longer to type than it does to do but here goes:
To remove a damaged guide soften the epoxy slightly with some gently heat ( a few passes with an alcohol torch or a few seconds with a heat gun / hair drier). Don't heat beyond what you can handle with bare hands and you won't damage anything.
Use a razor blade / utility knife to scrape the epoxy & thread off the foot of the guide and pop the old guide off.
Another blast of heat and pull off the tread. As it unwinds it will peel most of the old epoxy off.
There will be a small ridges left where the finish met the blank. Warm one more time scrape with the edge of a credit card, plastic knife, thumbnail etc.
Remove remaining residue by scraping lightly with a razor blade held perpendicular to the blank. Don't slice with it and cut into the blank.
Final clean up can done with a wipe of denatured alcohol.
Use a thin strip of tape or elastic thread to secure the new guide temporarily and wrap & finish as usual. Remember to prep the guide foot for easy wrapping.
When matching guides remember that the size is measured by the ID of the frame ring, not the opening in the insert. Most suppliers have pictures that will help you match up or you can try to get component info from the manufacturer (maybe even a free guide).
Sometimes I use Threadmaster 1 part Finish for repairs like this, but if mixing epoxy go ahead and mix a batch of at least 1.5cc of each part and measure & mix carefully. Mixing less can result a finish that doesn't cure properly. There will be some waste but in the grand scheme of things epoxy is cheap.

Sweet. My buddy forgot to bring his rod to drill this weekend so I gotta wait to get it another time. How do you know what size guide to use if the old ones gone all together.
Also Is there a way to fix I rod that say broke in two? Like my villain rod broke like 16" down from the tip

A great tool to have in rod building is a vernier calipers. You can use them to measure many related things including rod guides.
The second part I'll let the more experienced guys answer.

You can just match it to next guide toward the tip. If it's a standard running guide it's most likely a 6. Rods can be successfully spliced with little perceptible affect on performance. In that section of blank I'd use an over sleeve made from a scrap fiberglass blank. The ID or the sleeve needs to closely match the blank taper about 1.5" on each side of the break. The sleeve is tapered on each end, pieces are joined with epoxy adhesive. After they are set wrap over the sleeve and coat with finish. The actual process is a little more detailed. I'll look for an article to link you to. If you know another local builder with some experience you may want some assistance with the repair.
