Hmmm. Wonder what could be in that box in my trunk?
It may or may not be one of these!!!
Sweet. Upgrade or addition?
Addition. Plan on turning stabilized wood and acryllic reel seat inserts. I've done wood ones on the wood lathe, but the metal lathe can knock them out in no time flat! Like 2 minutes instead of 15-20!!
Do you use a lot of those or do you want to sell them?

I plan on starting to sell them.
Couldn't resist any longer, could you? LOL
A small metal lathe is on my list. Now there will be more questions from me, that you can answer.
Let me know when you get tired of all my questions.

Nope. Especially since Grizzly is closing down their PA operation. Made a trip there on Saturday. Everything was 20% off. They had a 13x40 in the scratch and dent section marked down from $4300 to $1500. I was $1100 and a truck and trailer short or it would have been mine! Lol
Sweet! I'm gonna end up with one sometime in the near future.
Congrats... You must really love what your doing.
Pretty sweet! I did not know grizzly was closing down the PA showroom. That stinks.

The 31st is their last day. Get out there and see what they have. The showroom is sparse, but they have lots in the warehouse.
This is the one that could have been.....
Can't wait to see what ya start turning out.
I could use a new lathe but since I recently bought a boat... then trolling motor.... and a a half dozen rods and reels.... I am willing to bet Mrs. H will not go along with the idea.

It won't be much different than what I already do, it will just make some functions easier. Turning wood reel seat inserts will go from 15-20 minutes down to 2 minutes or so.

I also stopped at a Lund dealer on saturday while we were out that way. Wanted to see what body parts I needed to sell to get my next boat! He's gonna call me back tomorrow.
Scott, with all these toys, you'll be unstoppable! You'll be turning out complete rods in like 40 minutes.

I don't know about that! It takes me that long to get the guides aligned sometimes. You'd swear Ray Charles wraps some of my rods!!
I wasn't gonna open it til I had a bench to set it on. Well, you see how long that lasted! I just moved the powerwrapper off of my wrapping bench and threw it up there.....for now. Got the packing grease cleaned off and just finished the break-in procedure. Now I need to acquire some cutting tools and give it a real spin!
Scott, you're now going to be like the woman who has just bought a new "little black dress".
It's time to accessorize.
You ain't done spending money yet amigo.

All I need are some bits. Gonna hit up Harbor Freight tonight for their cheapie set. It'll be good enough for wood and acrylic. I bought the live center the day I got the lathe.
How much does one of those go for? Nice looking lathe.

If it wasn't on sale, $695. However, it was on sale for $595 plus an additional 20% clearance.
So when are we going to get custom grips from you?? We can help you with the blanks and cork rings if needed..
Btw, If you can't afford to do the big expensive Lathe.. We have other options FYI: http://alpsforecast.com/product-category/gear-components/tools-supplies/tools/
Might not be as robust, but it will do the job.

Scott makes some totally awesome grips. Take a peak at some of the threads he's started. Top shelf work!!
Not bad if only I had the space. I run a few engine lathes at work to bad they don't let me do anything else besides jobs for the company. Some day I'll get one hahaOn 10/29/2015 at 6:13 PM, S Hovanec said:If it wasn't on sale, $695. However, it was on sale for $595 plus an additional 20% clearance.

If I had the extra money and space, I would have had that 13x40 I posted a pic of on the first page. It was marked down to $1500.
waiting for you to get up and running so I can see your grips

Just picked up some bits last night. Might run a reel seat or 2 this weekend.
Wood chips were flying this morning. Test run on an ugly block revealed the block wasn't so ugly after all. This thing is soooo cool. I need to get some acrylic in here now!
Time to go upstairs and install a new dishwasher.
Bench is assembled and lathe is in its final location.
Very nice. Me want one too.

That lathe is so sweet!!! This is serious business!
Here's the whole wall. I need to install some overhead lights. It's a little dim in that corner. On 11/18/2015 at 6:38 AM, Batson said:That lathe is so sweet!!! This is serious business!
There's a shop remodel in the works. I need to build another wall to separate the tool room from the laundry. Cork dust on clean clothes is not appreciated!!
wow!! a dream come true eh?? We will show you our rod building room!
Very Nice, Scott.

Love to see it. Or, maybe not. I've already spent more on my little shop than I originally thought I would.
Seeing yours could very well lead to a spending spree. LOL
There were a couple boxes waiting for me when I got home today.
Scott have you seen these yet? I've been wanting to get some and make grips for my bow or a rod grip.

Kinda like acrylic and wood combined.

I did, a while ago....and forgot all about it til you posted this. Thanks, more stuff to order!!!
Haha
OK. Finally played with some acrylic. This metal lathe is pretty fun! BTW, the pictures were taken on my wood lathe after some polishing.
More fun!

It took me longer than that...
Scott, you are doing some seriously sick work.
Played around with some scraps tonight.
Scott, that is incredible!!! You are working magic with that acrylic and lathe. Before you know it, you'll be making yourself an acrylic pair of pants.

I couldn't afford that much acrylic!
17mm Fuji Cobra spin seat with acrylic insert I turned for another rod builder this morning.
Another one. This is for a Forest Green Pearl SCV that's been 4+ years in the making!
Scott, That acrylic looks sweet!!
