Finally got enough repairs done that I feel I can start on a fun project.
My buddy Jim helped me out in my booth at the ICRBE last month. We were located across from the RodGeeks. Staring at those candy colors all day must have got the best of him because he ended up ordering a Neon Pink crankbait blank. Now, the Barbie you can understand, but where the lumberjack comes in.....well, you see......Jim is 6'2" and goes 370ish. Hence, Lumberjack Barbie!
Blank: Rodgeeks C273MM (Neon Pink)
Guides: AmTak DGML MicroWaves
Reel Seat: Fuji ECS
Cork: Tiger Trout Burl
Thread: Fuji
Butt grip and rear grip glued up in the clamp.
I'm liking this already Scott.
I'm excited to watch this as well. Can we get an update on that other rodgeeks build you posted awhile back as well?

It may be a while before there's an update on that one. I have too many rods for others on the board!
I love this already Scott!

This is one of 5 on deck just for me! Lol
It's cool your friend isn't hung up on the pink being "girly". I think that'll make a sharp build. I pumped about colored blanks being available in a line that still performs at a high level.
I just love all of Scott's builds. I think he has either built for me or modified for me over 7 rods with a few he is just completing. These new colored rod blanks will only enhance his work and I can't wait for them to release their 11 wt. blanks, because I think their is a metallic green Musky Fly Rod in my future!

Lucky Craft Man- me too! One of my favorites is the first one he built me- that's the one that floats -with reel line and lure attached.
Lumberjack Barbie makes 7 he has built for me, with 4 more in the queue after that. I'd have more but he keeps having to do surgery on NRXs for some guy.

It wouldn't be as funny if it wasn't true!

Hahaha...what moron would ever have a NRX modified? He must be a total loon. I bet he wraps his rod handles with Rod Wrap as well.
Last update for a few days. Need to head out of town to tend to some personal business.
Raw grips on the mandrel.
Tune back in this weekend, I'm sure there will be something new to see!

I'd bet it's the same kind of loon that would buy an NRX over a St Croix in the first place!

Haha...spoken like a man who has never fished a NRX rod before.
And if they still offered blanks, I'd be willing to try a NRX. One would think though, for what they cost, they would feel better in hand without further modification!
Xtreme > NRX

I actually agree with that. Though, there are a lot of guys who think NRX factory rod are perfect as is, but I am not one of them (hence the need for your services)

I actually specifically picked this blank BECAUSE it was pink. If someone wants to think that it, or I, am girly, more power to them, because I could give the furry crack of a rats behind.

The model that I held in store was way Tip heavy. I would never fish one, only because after meeting scott I vowed not to fish a shelf rod again.

I agree with that. I find all my NRX rods to be tip heavy (hence why I counterweight and modify them). I also agree that I would have Scott build every one of my rods if G Loomis would offer blanks. I just can't part with my G Loomis blanks, so all I am left with is buying factory built rods for Scott to modify.
Back to work!
Trimming the reel seat to fit a Shimano Aldebaran.
Boring the reel seat.
unfinished grips
Grips with Tru-Oil applied.
Everything glued up on the blank.
I liked the post because the forum doesn't have a love button
I've used other pink blanks in the past, but that color really pops.
Scott I showed this post to my wife & now she wants one.
I could make her a nice jerkbait model!
Wrapped last night.
Finish tonight.

I'd really like one for my wife as well. She has an Avid Pearl as her only rod right now, but she's going to fish some weeknight tournaments with me and will need another, little heavier rod to do that.
I see definite positive results with the Spinning Microwave guide set but haven't rushed to try the casting set. What's your opinion on them? The size 5 ringlock runners are a nice alternative to smaller micros or 6's for sure. I can see the stripper possibly softening the angle of the line coming off either far end of the level wind but I typicaly don't use a stripper much larger than the reels line guide, at least on a bass rod.
I don't think there are any benefits to the microwave casting set. This is,the first set I've used. We shall see.

That would be my question as well. I'm sold on MicroWave guides for spinning rods, but have not tried a set for casting.
For the record they are called Lumber Jill's. My youngest daughter went to SUNY ESF. For forestry management and she was on the woodsman team. Females are Lumber Jill's
Scott I sent you a PM.
Last update on this one til I get the decals. When they come in, I'll have to repossess the rod and apply them!

The GUY that ordered this rod is FAR from a Jill. I think Chuck Norris would be afraid of Jim's beard!
Here she is, nestled all snug in her bed, with my new birthday gift - Aldebaran 50
Wow, that rod looks Great! Scott is on a roll. If those goofy fools at RodGeeks would offer that 11wt. blank, I bet Scott would have that rod done for me by the end of this month with how motivated he has been on busting out these builds. I have never seen him so focused!

Someone is keeping his mind on just how much he loves him and keeping him excited about it. He went so far as to curse me out the other day because I had him so fired up about building he didn't want to go to work!
Repo'd LJB on Sunday to apply the decals. I must say, black on pink really pops.
That is a really poor pic of the RodGeeks decal. Its much sharper than the pic shows. I must have been shaking when I snapped it.

Scott, in addition to doing top-shelf work building rods, you take excellent pictures. My best pics are no where near as clear as this one.

Thank you. I take them with my phone. when I have a project I want good pictures of, the guy that built my website takes the pictures with a real camera.
