Does a Barramundi look like a Yellow fin tuna with a Barracuda head?
I saw this fish the other night on Natural Geographic but cant remeber its name
Even though barramundi are related to snook I think they look more like a small tarpon. As it's on my list I haven't been up close and personal to one.
I do not know what has the body of a yellow fin and a head of a barracuda
1. Maco(sp) Shark
2. Bluefin Tuna
3. Golden Trout
4. Giant Sturgeon
im not sure of the name of it. they were off a reef in australia i believe. It was on that show Fish vs Man. it came on right after that "Hooked on Bass". They hooked up with 2 at the same time. A shark got ahold of one and they only got 1/2 of the fish in the boat.

You are thinking of a dogtooth tuna.
Here is a link to a pic of the dogtooth tuna.

Yeah, but I want to head to Australia to catch Barramundi. It's all about the experience.
Samall mouth bass
Cobia
Permit
Some kind of freshwater trout
Salmon
Sturgeon
Salmon
Muskie
Any kind of trout other than lake trout, cause I have caught them before
only one MERMAID!!!!!!!
I would really like to set into a big Muskie. I have wanted to catch one for a long while now and have hooked a couple while bass fishing. Any fish that will attack a lure that is in the backwash of your boat has got to be a fun fish to catch.
Tally,
there are some fish reserves in central Florida where barramundi are stocked. I believe in the Ocala area
Yeah, I know. But the allure of catching these fish is going after them in their native habitat. The places you're talking about are self enclosed stock ponds. Don't get me wrong, I'd fish there in a heartbeat, but I'd really love to go after them in Oz.
I hear ya, I'd love to catch the same peacock I catch in my backyard down in the amazon.
need to add peacock to my list.
my list
muskie
cobia
shark
sturgeon,
i caught a lot of fish but missed my chance to catch a muskie, i seen one though.
QuoteTally, there are some fish reserves in central Florida where barramundi are stocked. I believe in the Ocala area
There are no stocked ponds in the Ocala area. There are stocked ponds in osecola county. They are there to be farmed and sold as table fare. Im lucky enought to know the man who runs the farm and he lets me and my freinds fish the for free.
Heres the website.
http://www.osceolaoutback.com/
1. Blue Marlin
2. Mako Shark
3. Peacock Bass
4. King Salmon
5. Nile Perch
6. Siluris Glanis (Danube Catfish, Wels Catfish)

That's the one I was referring to. I think I had seen it before on an episode of Bill Dance. Like I said, I'd love to catch one sometime. My brother in law lives in Orlando, I may have to bring the baby to see his uncle while I "take care of some business".
If you do come down to "take care of business" Wait till like July or august. They love the hot weather. You could go out there today and not get one bite. but in July you would catch 150 in 4 hours. Shoot me a pm if you ever decide to go I could Guide for you.
Kewl. May have to do that before the fall semester starts up here.
Pretty good idea for a topic here's mine:
1. Muskie
2. Peacock bass
3. Alligator Gar
4. Northern Pike
5. Ginormous catfish ;D
A.J., look in the new Bass Pro catalog in the front. Johnny Morris is holding a 52 lb. Barra.
My top fish to catch would be:
150+ lb. Tarpon on a fly rod.
Taimen on a fly rod.
Pirarucu, these things are total beasts.
Barramundi on light spinning tackle.
Peacock Bass on the Amazon.
Here is my bucket list:
Tarpon

Snook
Smallmouth
Muskie
King Salmon
Smallmouth
Muskie
Pike
Red Fish
Snook
Goliath Grouper
Peacock Bass
Alligator Gar
Sturgeon
and two that will probably make you go :-?
Pickerl
Perch
It would have to be muskie for sure. But I really want to catch a big snakehead.
As far as freshwater, I've caught most of the main American species but I'd still like to catch a Muskie (just got some wire leaders and some glide baits to try at a nearby Muskie lake) as well as rainbow and brook trout (just got a fly rod) and a pickerel. The pickerel may sound weird but I don't have many bodies of water that have them near me. Also a snakehead (have a good fishery pretty close in the Potomac), redfish, and peacock bass.
Although I'd love to catch many different kinds of fish around the world, the few that I want to catch in my state that I haven't yet are

Tiger Shark!
1-9 musky
10 smallmouth
Golden Dorado
Tigerfish
Nile Perch
Fish in my area:
Musky
Longnose Gar
Brown Trout
Rainbow Trout

QuoteFish in my area:Musky

You are about an hour away from one of your "exotics," but you wouldn't be in Alaska :
Yeah a few years ago I went on a charter on Lake Ontario and my brother got a pretty nice King, so I know they are there. I want to go to Alaska and fish for them for a couple reasons. The first is that my uncle and cousins live up there, and I have always wanted to go there and visit them. The second is that the ones around here don't get as big as they do up there
hmmm...
1: muskie
2: peacock bass
3: a southern strain LM ;D
4: marlin
1: changing my number 1 to giant grouper lol
aaron
There are alot of fish in my area that I do not target and have not caught but would like to someday. High on the list are Muskies, and Steelhead.

Freshwater;
Musky
big Lake Trout (Makinaw)
Golden Trout
Nile Perch
giant South American catfish (Redtails, or any other over 100 lbs)
a 40 lb+ Pacu (it would be like fighting a 40 lb Bluegill ;-)
European Wels catfish
New Gunea Black Bass
Saltwater;
Well Black or Blue Marlin, sure..... But nobody mentioned a straight up Sword Fish ! Did you guys know their are guys who have caught all kinds of Marlin, but are still trying for their first actual Sword Fish ?
A big Hammerhead, Mako, Tiger, or Thresher shark. Great Whites would be cool, but I think they are pretty much totally protected, in most waters, so that you can't even fish for them... even if you intend to release them.
Tarpon
Alaskan Halibut (at least a 100lb'er)
Bluefin Tuna
Wahoo
Roosterfish
I'm sure I'm forgetting some... but anyway.
I'm always down for a new species :-)
Peace,
Fish
PS, I watched a guy catch a 12 to 14ft Sawfish the other day on one of the fishing programs. How cool would that be ??? :-)
QuotePS, I watched a guy catch a 12 to 14ft Sawfish the other day on one of the fishing programs. How cool would that be ??? :-)
EXTREMELY cool.
QuoteWell Black or Blue Marlin, sure..... But nobody mentioned a straight up Sword Fish ! Did you guys know their are guys who have caught all kinds of Marlin, but are still trying for their first actual Sword Fish ?
I'm one of them....
My top 5:
1. Large Permit on fly
2. Sailfish on fly
3. Swordfish
4. 10+ lb peacock
5. 75+ lb kingfish or wahoo would probably be a blast although I may need new tackle afterwards. I've had 50 pounders totally grenade reels...
The only freshwater fish I want to catch at this moment would be a Muskie. I have fished for 2 years for them and havent gotten one yet. My goal is to get one (I dont care what size) in the boat this year. Ive already had 2 follows, on about 35-37" and a monster 50"+ follow my lures. The 50 incher was before opener (I was using a small buzzbait, followed it up to the boat) so I didnt feel like figure 8ing to catch him. Its not as fun to catch big fish when their season hasnt started yet. It was pretty cool though. Followed it right to the boat, turned 90 degress and ran parallel to the boat. It was one of those "Woah" moments, where you crap your pants, and are shaking like crazy.
All I want to say is I hope all of you who want to catch a northern pike, catch one this year. Once you get one, your hooked for good. No pun intended ;D
Heres a little tip I learned from Pike fishing (my prefered fish):
Take any lure you want to use (anything, besides a spoon. It can be a hard plastic, spinner. It can be a top water, but thats harder to do)Then take your back hook off, so you just have a eye (for spinner baits youll have to get creative) and attach a liter to it. Then take a spoon and attach it to the other end of your liter. Cast, and watch the pike attack it.
Heres how it works:
When the pike sees the spoon "following" the front lure, it thinks it chasing it down, for food. Pike are really competitive, and they try to beat the spoon to it. They work great.
Regarding your muskie and this is only a thought never have done it.
We were discussing this very thing on the pier yesterday as were cuda fishing and muskies are incredibly similar to cuda both in size and habit.
We use cuda tubes, we make our own but they can be bought.
It may or may not work but worth a try as I'm sure your muskies have not seen this presentation before.
Freshwater:
1. Musky
2. Salmon
3. Stripers: the 50+ lb kind
1. Sheefish
2. Golden Trout
A Snakehead over 15 pounds on a topwater.
Tarpon on the fly
130 lbs and ^
smallmouth
musky
permit
roosterfish
swordfish
any marlin
big tuna
big sailfish
anything from "River Monsters"
Quote1. Sheefish2. Golden Trout
that sheefish is weird, looked it up.
It looks like a cross between shad, barramundi, and kingfish

Peace,
Fish
I was just watching a recorded episode of River Monsters and the guy caught a 7'4" Wels weighing around 164lbs, bout took the man out of his boots ...next time I get stationed in Germany, I'm taking full fishing advantage of it.
Now for me (not in any order) Muskie, Steelhead, big Lake Trout, Alligator Gar, Stripper, and any salt water (inshore or deep sea) that I could get a hook in.
1. Golden Trout
2. Muskie
3. Tuna
4. Marlin
5. Walleye
Fish that I have caught in California (I fish for in season during, regular basis)
1. Largemouth Bass :year around fish.
2. Trout (German Brown, CutThroat, Brooke, Rainbow) :year around.

4. Sturgeon (White, Green not permitted) :year around.
5. Shad :runs from April through mid July.
6. Salmon :Not permitted to catch in California now.
7. SteelHead :runs from late December through early March.
All other fish for fun catch and release:
1. Carp :Pound for Pound, still the best fight I have seen, fought.
2. Split Tail (Pike Minnow) :No game fish, caught & used as live bait
for Striped Bass fishing.
3. CatFish (Any) :Fun to catch all night & release.
My German Brown Trout, camping 2009.
QuoteNo snook or redfish in that part of Florida?not in order, Permit, Amazon peas, Roosterfish, Barramundi.
Snook dont go north of daytona commonly, they are very rare here in j-ville, so I would think they dont go to tally, and it is an hour from tally to the gulf so maybe he has not taken the time to get a red, even though the redfish fishing is very good there. :-/
I'd like to finally land a musky. I've had a few follows and had 2 12" ones and a 24"+ one on. Seen many in the 36"+ range. I've even caught barracuda before, but no musky.
1.) Musky
2.) Pike
3.) Golden trout
4.) Sturgeon
5.) Brown Trout
6.) King Salmon
7.) Walleye (Ya I know right? )
In Washington this is all accomplishable and I plan on completing it sometime. I know where I can knock the king, brown, and walleye out real quick. Musky and pike shouldn't be super hard. Sturgeon just takes me having some time to do it. And i gotta find the secret golden trout lakes here in WA.

I came across some guys that were harvesting 10" redfish in Apalachicola over the weekend. I called FWCC when I was away from them. But no, I just haven't had the time, nor do I know the area well enough to seriously fish for redfish since I don't have a boat and it is difficult to bank fish here. I am open for suggestions on places to go for redfish here in Tally if anyone has them, though.
Sturgeon,Tiger fish,Halibut,tripletail,Colossal or giant Grouper,Black Marlin,Lingcod just to name a few
1. King Salmon
2. Steelhead
3. Tarpon
