What were your biggest fishing accomplishments from this year?
What about the decade?
My biggest accomplishment of this year is catching my biggest humpy which was 7lb 12oz. Roby
Probably saving up for a small bass boat.
My best accomplishment from the year is finally breaking into the 5lb club........
Nice, largemouth or smallmouth?
QuoteMy best accomplishment from the year is finally breaking into the 5lb club........
Well, I retired August 1st of this year and that gave me more time to fish, after not doing very much fishing for the last 25 years or so.
Bought quite a bit of new gear this year, to upgrade my old stuff which dated from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Results - the two best catches of the year were 1) the 7.75lb bass shown in my avatar - caught on a 6.5' mf baitcaster w/12lb mono on a BPS ProQualifier reel, and 2) a 20lb channel cat caught on a 5.5' light-power spinning rod w/6lb test on a mid-80s vintage Shakespeare Sigma reel - the best "fish-fight" I've ever had. 8-)
Looking forward to becoming a better angler in the next decade !
Year:
First Golden Trout
Biggest Brookie
Big High Country Brown
Decade:
57lb King Salmon
147lb Halibut
13lb 1oz Largemouth
3 5 fish limits over 40lbs
Retained my sanity by fishing.
Fishing-wise, I had a monumental year. I broke my PB 4 separate times this year, and ended up with a 7lb,10oz largemouth for my biggest. As far as techniques, '09 was the first year using a Carolina rig, with great success, as well as spent a lot of time working on my jig presentation, also definitely worth the effort. Great year, and looking forward to more good stuff in 2010.

What's yours ? Especially for the decade.
Mine for the decade has been my retirement for the last decade with the ability to fish when and where I please. It's great !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not fall out of the boat, even once, this year. :
year: my sons discovered the simple fun of spinnerbaiting a weed flat for LM and pike and whatever else was there.
decade: taught my sons the basics of bass fishing...each has at least one 5lb+ StClair smallie!

I haven't been fishing for a decade, but in the time I have been, here is what really stands out to me....
1. Winning a BFL
2. Winning Co-Angler of the Year in the BFL Bulldog division (youngest in FLW history 8-))
3. Catching a 10.4lb fish in a tournament
4. Catching my PB 14.7lb bass
2000-2009
Sold my business and retired
Married my girl friend of 15 years back in 03
Four 10+ Bass
2010: Fish more
Beat my 12.40
Keep my health in better shape
Learning how to truly bass fish at the beginning of the decade. (catching fish using something other than live bait)The later part of the decade is when I started to learn how to fish plastic worms and my absolute go to bait, Wave worms rigged weightless. Just this past year, I started to fish jigs. I haven't got it down completely yet, but hope to improve a lot this year. Next thing to learn is how to fish lizards.
Mine are my PB and spankin' my friends dad EVERY TIME WE GO.
He's been bass fishing for 40 years.
Caught my first jig fish, 4 lbs, caught my first carolina rig fish, 4 1/2 lbs. Went on to catch two over 8 lbs, a 6 lb, and a 5 1/2 lb all on same outing.

That had to be a rush! In the little lakes I fish near my house, if you would have caught a line-up like that .... there wouldn't be any bass left in the lake ;D
year: still here able to fish
decade: teaching the sport of Bassfishn to young, eager fellas and the making of smiles
I got to hold a very beautiful little girl this year. She is the first Great-Grandchild for this old man.
For the decade, I'm not sure if any of us can compete with Glenn's accomplishment..... Bass Resource!
My accomplishment is one thats really personal, I realized this year that I can be beat in tournaments on my home lake, and sometimes even by guys in tin boats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'(

Not really a fall, but funny anyway.
My first of the year was placing 16th out of 200 on the coangler side of a Bfl on the Big G. This was my first tourny I have ever fished. My boater blanked. Second would be 9lb 14oz Ohio largemouth. Hopefully 2010 will be good for everyone on here, Good luck and Happy New Year.

Well said. My thanks to Glenn and the other contributors - I'm learning a lot
This last year: Adding a Largemouth game to my skills (up north here most focus on the smallmouth bass). Catching a 6lbs+ Smallmouth at dusk.
The decade: Just being fortunate to have family property on beautiful georgian bay with some boats for me to fish out of!
2009:
Finally broke the 6 lb. mark.
Decade:
Finally caught one over 5 lb.
Learned how to fish a jig.
For the decade, my main accomplishment was getting back into fishing. An unfortunate series of events in the late '90s left me physically and financially unable to do much serious fishing.
I still don't trust myself in a boat, but I've been able to take up fishing again, and this site has been invaluable in helping me get back up to speed.

Right on, my fellow washingtonian! Yeah, the pinks were in good this year. I caught my share too. Can't say that for steel or chum however. :'(
My accomplishments are far more humble:
1) Designed a crankbait from scratch that caught trout and smallmouth bass. I wrote about it and almost won a fishing rod for that story with a second place finish. Bitter sweet! I tried to win the rod for my dad.
http://fethastyxblog.com/2009/12/time-to-get-crankin-making-them-that-is-spin-a-story-second-place/
2) Took my dad salmon fishing, his first time and he caught two different species, the pink and silver. I also wrote about it and it got posted on a hunting and fishing forum.
3) Caught my first bass on jig. Four seasons long without a jig bass. What a shame! ;D
4) Had two bass fishing showdowns with my little girl and fished with my son also.
First blood in the first five minutes yielded a first class smile.
Drop shotting at 45'. He wouldn't let me help him hold the rig.
5) Took a group of Seniors fishing.

My major accomplishments involved sharing the joy of fishing with others with me under the radar and behind the scenes where I prefer to be.
Caught my biggest bass ever not to big but 4 pounder i hope to catch one 2x that size this year http://www.bassresource.com/fishing-forum/Templates/Forum/default/grin.gif
Started back fishing after a 30+ year layoff! Caught some big bass for the first time ever. It has been great!
2009 was kind of a layoff year for tournaments. I did fish 5 tournaments though winning one with 23 lbs. 9 oz.
The decade was great! I started fishing tournaments in 2005 and had 3 top ten BFL finishes that year. I won a boat in 2007.
accomplish year/Learned jig, crankbait, and night fishing for bass
Biggest bass=didnt weigh it its the one in profile pic a 7lb+ probably closer to 8lbs.
accomplish decade/I'd say this decade transfer from kid going to pits and trying my luck to semi skilled fisherman.Actually go and find patterns and fish cover.

WELCOME.
My biggest accomplishment for the year was breaking the 30lb barrier for northern pike & 12lb barrier for steelhead. My decade accomplishment was breaking the 7lb barrier for smallmouth & largemouth, 12lb barrier for walleye, & the 37lb barrier for lake trout.
cought this one in a 12 acre public pond, while recovering from neck surgery. Doc said don't do anything strenious and to relax. So I did!
Multiple 25 pound plus bags of smallies on Champlain
Weekend Series victory on Champlain
8 wins and 4 lunkers this past year = $$$$$$$$$$$$
Learning the in's and out's of the convoluted TBF/FLW roster system.
Learning how to stamp and address 40+ envelopes every month.
Learning how nasty people can get when they're too lazy to do a little math on their own.
Learning just how much of a PITA it is to deal with people who are set in their ways and never write a d**n thing down.

Holy crap that's awesome
Fishing: I wanted to catch an 8 pounder & I caught a 9.
Life: Got married
2009 - Buying a bass boat finally (2000 Champion 181 w/ 150 Optimax)
Only started bass fishing in 07, so the Decade list is short..
2008 - 12lb 6oz & 13lb3oz large mouth.

Mine would have to be having a very very small role in this young man's accomplishments. Being able to watch him learn and grow into one of the best "Sticks" I know. It has been a great ride.
Caught three fish that I have never caught before;
muskellunge-36 lbs
walleye-7 lbs
red drum-42 lbs
Mine for this year was actually targeting bass (and not just any fish in the lake) and catching them. Learning a lot about bass fishing, and I didn't get skunked one time last year
