What the heck happened to Shaw Grigsby???
I just saw him on a Lowrance commercial and he looks awful!!!
Is he sick, or did he have plastic surgery and a toupee'???
Anyone know??? Hope he's OK!!!
ajr
i was thinking the same thing.. i was like who is that??
Have met the man once. Good gentleman.
I'm not sure of his condition but, on BASS tour I've noticed he wore half mask and gloves in hot months. Just today I was watching his episode for tarpon and snook he was wearing gloves, again. My guess is, his skin does not react well to sunlight or sunburn. Rare disease, forgot what it's called but...
Yeah, hope he is OK.
I looked it up, it's called XP "Xeroderma pigmentosum" disease. So, don't quote me on that. Just my guess. Hitting the pillow, lights out!
If you have Lyme disease and are on one of the medications I know you can't be out in the sun. At several tournies this year it could be 90 out and there would be some guys dressed with masks, gloves, everything so almost no part of them was in the sun for too long.
Quite a few people been playing ticks in your neck of the woods?
We are just loaded with them up here. If you have dogs you really need to be careful because they will bring them inside, then they fall off, and you can find them crawling around your house and on the walls in the middle of winter.
There was a development built on an area that was loaded with Deer Ticks and the homeowners went after the town to do something about the problem. The little buggers were just everywhere and causing health issues.
Geez. Theres enough ticks around here, but I know of very few Lyme disease cases. Just another reason not to let a pet in the house.
Mr. Grigsby went through a triple by-pass surgery in 2004. Perhaps he is having problems with something else with his heart. The last show I saw he did look a bit gaunt.
I hope he will be well. When you see the commercial, you will know what I mean. Great guy!!!

A house without a pet (when I say pet, I mean dogs, cats don't qualify) is a depressing place.

A reason not to let a pet in the house?!?!?! Me and 2 of my neighbors just had the loacal pet shelter take my neighbors dog from him because he left it out through 100 degree heat and snowstorms! Why have a pet and leave him tied up outside 24 7. Crazy.
Back on topic......
I don't think it's Lyme disease....
I was thinking more cancer of some sort. Looked like he had lost all his hair and was wearing a wig. Lost lots of weight.
What do you think Strike King....you saw the same ad I did.
PS
Tin,
I asked someone about those "masks" and gloves. I was told that the gloves are for the fishes protection from our cooties and the mask.....camo?? to break up the outline of the face for sight fishing?? I thought that was a little whacked, but who am I to question???

My Dog is my best friend - Thats why they are loyal - I may be going to the extrieme but what he suffers i would gladly suffer (maybe not worms ) but thats why they have Vets ... I let my dog in and out of the house no matter how dirty he gets its part of being a pet owner.
My dogs stay in a lot when they are not out hunting or free to run around. Its a shaded area and are took very good care of. Generally my beagle has to stay in the lot because he runs deer bad. Don't think because you don't let your animals in the house its bad. Maybe we should just shelter all wildlife.
OK, I love my dog too....
A $360.00 vet bill yesterday.....giving him pills for a week or so....and I plan on taking him on the boat this year. Three daughters, my wife, and two female cats. HE is the ONLY other guy in the house!!!!
I hope the child the wife is currently carrying is a boy so I am not in your same shoes before its all said and done.

OMG ;D I have the same dog but all brown! I've debated taking my dog with me. He loves fish I mean LOVES FISH! He will flat tear into a fish on a stringer if I'm not careful LOL. I haven't taken him yet for two reasons. First he is a big scaredy cat in the car. I hate to think about what he might be like in the boat. Second I swear if he jumped or fell in he would sink faster then my anchor with those little legs. ;D I used to have a black lab that use to love going with me before she died. I think she would have just preferred to swim next to the boat all day then in it.
Here's my little dog charlie here thinking he's got a big meal coming. PS these fish are being mounted and the pond I caught them at was going to be and has been drained.
QuoteHush!
Just look at your wife's family.
Great photo Simp!!!!!
We'll both try this season with the dogs!! I'll bet they'll be fine!!

After spending his life on the water before sunscreen was pushed by doctors he has to have some skin issues too.
have you ever seen Rolands hands? looks like toast

I feel your pain but I live in house of pain lol.
Ol lady, 3 girls and jack russel (hyper female) I'm the only guy in the house!

I really dont know?? i think i only saw the ad once maybe twice.. i remember half paying attention but thinking that i reconised the voice but when i looked at the screen i was confused. it sounded like Shaw but didnt really look like him. i've watched a bunch of fishing shows old & new lately but havent seen that ad since.
I saw the ad. In most of his Shows he is always wearing a hat....And for as long as i can remember his hair has always been weird looking without the hat......So his hair was the normal ol Shaw hair style but other than that i really dont think theres any thing wrong with him.
Saw him a couple of mths ago and he was fine...Didn't see the show you are referring but he might have had that bullfrog sunblock on his face. I'll call to ck on him.

thats probably it, hats can make a difference.. i didnt think of that

Mostly spiders :
OK.....
I just saw the ad again. I have NEVER seen Shaw without a hat. I am going to say he is wearing a toupee' and maybe plastic surgery.
I watched Shaw's show One More Cast today. He looked and acted like the Shaw Grimsby I've watched in the past. He wasn't wearing gloves, he had his hat on so I couldn't see if he had a hair piece. He looked and acted fine.

I watched it also. It appeared to be a current show and I agree he looked fine and I hope he is.
He looked fine in the ad and show I saw yesterday.
The gloves and mask thing is to prevent too much sun exposure while he was fishing for (I believe) Bonefish. Any time you are spending that much time on the deck of a boat in the Keys, Carribean, or any clear shallow flat you not only have to worry about the sun from above, but also the reflection from below. I worked in the Keys for a summer and did not realize that that sun could be that bright. As far as the commercial, I saw it but I believe that was also the first time that I had seen him without a hat. Shaw is one of the nicest guys and best ambassador for fishing.
Only on BR can a topic start about a fishermans health condition and be turned into wether or not you should have your dog inside or outside. lol i love it
It could be cancer. The kimo would destroy his hair and make him slightly more sensitive to sunlight. I read his biography and know his dad died from cancer. Just my 2 cents.
Okay - Here is the absolute truth. The reason Shaw looks different is that he does not have a hat on. He does not have a toupee (never has) and has not had chemo. As to the weight, he has weighed the same the last 4 years. After his heart surgery 5 years ago, he has been paying very strict attention to his diet. He still eats like a horse, but he follows a low fat diet with a lot of chicken and fish.
As to the gloves, face masks and scarves: Have you ever seen him fishing in shorts and a short sleeved shirt? No! Shaw is very careful with sun exposure and always wears long sleeves, long pants, hats and sunscreen when ever he fishes. The gloves and face mask are something he has been wearing for years while fishing. He usually does not wear them in photos. We all should pay attention to how much sun exposure we get. If you spend a lot of time in the sun, it is a good idea to see a dermatologist yearly for a check.
I think the bottom line is, it was a bad camera angle....
We all love the guy and I am glad he is doing well physically. Long life and great fishing to him!!!!

ok thats that! :-)
i really like his shows, i think he gets the most excited when he gets a good fish more than any fishing tv star.

To be honest, that's the only reason I watch his show. Of all of the TV fisherman, he's the only one that seems to be genuinely excited when he lands a fish. It's almost like watching my kids fish.
