At my home lake, the place I fish most often, you won't find me having to many of those 20+ fishing days as far as number of fish caught. But I do catch fish there at' what I would say, a "consistent" basis. For me that number is about a fish an hour. If I can average this, I consider that a good day of fishing.
Quality over quantity, but for that sake of discussion lets just assume all the fish are the same size. At my lake 15 in fish at about 1.5 to 2.5 lbs are caught consistently, or what I consider consistent. Im Also usually fishing from shore, so keep that in mind.
I also realize, it's possible to have a good day without catching many fish. But again, for the sake of discussion, lets talk numbers, avg size, species, etc...
Any thoughts?
Where I fish 1 is good.
Casting for a 1 to 2 pounder.
A good day of fishing for me is when I am at the Everglades and I catch 40+ LMB on my own (excluding my fishing partner), avg 3-5lbs. A great day is throw in 6+ lb bass in the mix. An awesome day, is when they are all caught on hollow body frogs.

Nice!
A good day for me is finding that magical school of largemouth and smallmouth all feeding on baitfish in the same area where you can throw any lure you want and it will get bit. I love those days.
A good day of fishing is when I get to go fishing.
Most of the lakes I fish have a very limited amount of space for shore fishing. So basically if the fish aren't in that particular area at that particular time, I'm S.O.L. If I can get 3 or 4 fish in a couple hours, I consider that a good trip. And like BassinLou said, if they're caught on topwater then so much the better.
But in reality, every day spent fishing is a good day even if I don't catch anything.

Agreed!
A good day of fishing is if I am by myself and I get to touch atleast one fish. If I'm with my buddies as long as we all don't get skunked I call it a good day!
A good day is just being out on the water with my buddies. Im happy when my friends catch fish. Some people get frustrated and ticked, if theyre not having as good a day as their buds but as long as my friends or myself are getting bit.. Im having fun!
Lately, a good day for me is when I get a fish, period.

I've heard of those mythical days. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe next season...my time will come!
There all good. Some are better than others but they are never bad. Life's too short.
When I have had even more fun than usual.
Freshwater I'm only fishing for bass. Any time I can catch something that's a good day for me.
Saltwater wise I love fishing for calico bass. The trips I've been on its usually fish on every cast.
Quality is good but just hooking into a fish is what I'm really wanting.
Any day that I am fishing is a good day!
Tough question to answer, fishing everyday I get both very productive days and days that are totally dead. I have great days when I've only caught 1 fish in saltwater if it's the "right fish" and not so good a day if I've caught 20 unchallenging fish.
I do most of my bass fishing from late Nov to about March, that time of the year it's usually productive so it's enjoyable.
Anytime my boat is in water, I'm at the bow, and a loved one is at the stern.
THAT is a good day, my friend.
As much as I love to catch fish, I've had just as much fun, if not more, getting skunked with my boy (or wife) than catching 15 fish alone.
Good day on lakes with spotted bass for me such as nacimento is approx 30-40 spotted bass but they usually never exceed over 3lbs. They're typically in the 10-16 inch range. An unforgettable day though with my uncle and I was catching an easy 90+ bass in that same size range though. It happened only once in the fall. On the Cali delta a great day is 40+ fish with at least over one that exceeds 5lbs +
A good day fishing is any day I get to go. Being out in God's great creation and seeing all there is to look at, flower, fauna, etc. Any time I can figure out where they should be a fish and I catch one there, that is just great.
Any day I can get on the water and enjoy nature and its beauty without the hassle of everyday life.
When I'm not at worki
Any day of fishing is a good day of fishing.
Trips where a Scale and a Camera are put to use are usually "Good Days" (or Nights).
A-Jay
Any day I learn something new about my green friends or about the reservoir. Yesterday, I discovered a totally awesome rockpile that I didn't know existed!
any day i can put my rods to use rather than rigging them and tinkering in the living room or the garage....
I can honestly say that getting skunked does not bother me, some skunked days i just start exploring which leads to better fishing the next time out....
also, i say any day that you catch something aside from a bass.... i mean bass fishing is what it's all about, but if i catch a trout and a crappie and a catfish all while targeting bass it just gets me excited for that day's prospects
A good day for me is anytime I leave fishing feeling better than I did when I got there. Might not even catch fish, but I feel good just about being out there and doing it.....Now a bad day is one that eats at me, I know I messed this up or shoulda done that.

^-----This!
Any day I catch 5 decent bass in less than 4 hours is a good day. If I'm fishing all day, 10+ is good for me!
If I'm fishing the river for smallmouth, anytime I catch 20 is pretty good for me... but I've been spoiled this summer on two trips where we caught 60, than 86 the next day.
If I can catch a fish over 14" then that is a good day for me.
Any day of fishing is a good day of fishing.
A bad day on the lake is better than a good at work. So as long as I make it to and from the lake safely, I've had a good day.
A good day is being near the water catching anything. Even sunfish on an ultralight is good for me.
A great day is catching 5 SMB per hour and a fish fry for dinner.
I was spoiled rotten by my pond earlier in the year. We couldn't pull fish out fast enough. I'm talking 15-20 fish by myself in about a 2 hour span. The LMB were even stealing our worms on bobs meant for the perch. I'd throw one out and set it down to go for my topwater rig and three times in a row I'd have to turn around and throw everything down to run to the other pole. You know it's a good day when you start getting irritated at having to run around chasing different fish on different rod setups.
Now that things have slowed down a bit, I'm happy with about 2 fish of any type in a 4 hour window.
A good day of fishing for me is when we go fishing and my grandson catches 3 or 4 fish and we return home safely.
I consider any day of fishing a good day...

Couldn't have said it better.
It's never about catching them for me (although I do enjoy it) the fun part for me is figuring out how to get them to bite! So to answer the question when the light bulb goes off and I have figured where and how that is what keeps me coming back! But as everyone says a day fishing is better than a day at work!
Exactly.On 8/2/2013 at 2:21 PM, jtharris3 said:Any day that I am fishing is a good day!
I get excited if I only catch one fish. If I get skunked that just means I need to work harder and prepare better for the next time. I'm also a beginner at bass fishing so I'm easily impressed...

Well said
Any day I'm out fishing that I don't break or lose something (rod, reel, lure...boat).
Don't get me wrong, I love to catch but as long as I'm out there with a line in the water, I'm a pretty damned happy dude.
Hmm at first I was going to say any day that I fish is good but I have to admit. If I catch em the way I love to catch em...on a top water frog, I am just a bit happier. I think the number of fish isn't as important as the percentage of hook ups I get on the frog. I've had some unlucky days where the bass slam my frog the moment I'm looking away or the moment I'm messing with my trolling motor etc. and I do get a bit grumpy...........
Ah the heck with it, after further consideration, any day is a good day as long as I'm fishing!!
When my cell phone stays quiet, I improve myself or learn something new, and catch a couple of fish.
A good day of fishing,, Let's see if I'm still on this side of the green it's a good thing. I get out before the sun comes up to witness two fawns being splashed by two freshwater otters as they try to get a drink. That's a good thing. But watching the sky start to light up then seeing the ball of fire come up its a good thing. But seeing a bass
inhale my topwater lure its a good day to be alive and fishing. Topwater action you have to live it.
