Let's hear what your 1 dream trip would be. No restrictions, not geography, money, anything. Where would you go.
(One answer per person please)
My dream trip would be for 130+lb Tarpon on the fly in Fla. The size of the fish, the method of catching them,...it's all very majestic to me,...real fishing. (Not to mention you don't have to travel for 20 hrs to get there )
A sweep throught the South> Kentucky and Barkley for a few days on those Smallies, then to Lousiana for some Red Fishing and Spotted Trouth, to Texas and a return to a certain cove on the Fork then over to Avid's house and a rip onto Stick Marsh with Mr.Welcome, and a wack at some Snook in the canals by Port Richie, and finally up to fish Varner. A solid month of Fishing
I'd have to say Argentina and the Urugay River for golden dorado. I hear that they are a more formidable oponent that the peacock bass.
The lodget that you stay at is on an Argentinian cattle ranch as well. You get fed prime beef and Argentinian red wine all week. makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
I was fortunate enough to have my dream trip two years ago. Pike fishing at a fly in lodge in Northern Saskatchewan. True wilderness, bald eagles, northern lights, great fishing, all the walleye you could eat cooked fresh on an island over a fire, Cuban cigars, incredible scenery.....
It's now my dream trip all over again!
To return with my Dad to the Panama Canal Where you catch Peacock Bass and Tarpon in the same waters.
I lived there from 1969 till 1975 Best fishing I have ever seen.
Dale
OK, money is no object here....
Fly fishing for tarpon in Belize with a Sage 1291 Xi2 blank wrapped by me, a Billy Pate Tarpon fly reel with a jazzy shrimp fly, tied by me. 60 feet of intermediate sinking tip line coiled between my feet and twice the leader length hanging off my rod tip, waiting for anyone to point to a silver king. One false cast to get 80' of line out right on his nose. I led him a little too much, but he lunges at the fly and the fight is on. The alarm goes off and I wake up and realize that the mortgage payment is due today! @$#%!&^.
One of these days...........
Ronnie
Wow Ronnie. I know that day will come. Your story got me excited!

Where did you get that idea? lol
I would go Amistad in mid February, Clear Lake in early March, then back to Pickwick and Neely Henry in late March early April, head over to Lanier in late April. Finally back north to Erie and the Detriot River and home on a reservoir in Northern RI for the rest of the year
Carl, when I first got into freshwater, a remote (key word here) Pike trip would have been my drwam trip. I Your description just rekindled THAT one!
Ronnie- As long as I get my 130+, I'll tailor mine to fit yours, lol. Maybe throw in a sailfish or 2 for good measure?
Where redlinerobert has already been too...fishing for peacock bass.
I pray to be able to do this once before i die.
Likewise my dream drip has already come true. It was 4 yrs ago in Canada on lake charelston. My father, brother and I bass fishing. One afternoon in two hours we boat over 100 lbs. of bass, to this day don't know why they were so stacked up in a two hundred yard long section of this flat. The biggest was only 7.6 lbs, but that is a hawg largemouth in Canada. By the way this is when we really didn't know how to fish that well, all spinning gear, 4-6lb. line. Hope we get to do it again someday.
Sportfishing the Kona Coast of Hawaii with Captain Norm Isaacs
A week with Tom Redington learning Lake Fork & then a week of night fishing on Fork with Matt Fly
A week of irritating Roadworrior while chasing Smallmouth
Fishing all the legendary bass lakes across America & then Mexico
Fly fishing for giant Chilean brown trout in South America for one week and then stopping by for the peacocks the following week.
A trip to El Salto to catch a 10 lb+ largemouth, followed by a long stay in Brazil fishing for giant peacocks on the Amazon, then ending the trip on lake Erie fishing for trophie smallies.
someday.....
I'd like to head down to Guntersville with everybody this spring... :'(
Fly fishing in New Zealand for trophy Brown Trout. Even if I didn't catch a single fish, the scenery alone would make it a dream come true. Though, the 20+ hour flight is what will probably always keep this as a dream.
QuoteI'd have to say Argentina and the Urugay River for golden dorado.
I saw a video of this recently on-demand and it looks awesome! My sister-in-law is Argentinian and my family is due to take a trip down there in the next few years. I am def. gonna try and go for some Golden Dorado.
My dream trip would probably be one of the Mexico big bass lakes with my Dad.
SALTWATER
Blue Marlin Kona, Hawaii
FRESHWATER
Northern Pike God's Lake, Manitoba
Roger
El Salto for a boatload of DD's
Great lakes for smallies
El Salto.....Ahhhhhh!!!
I just want to go fishing. stupid back injury...
A toss up between Clear Lake and Erie. Aww shoot, both! 8-)
A trip to lake fork with a guide for a whole day would be good enough for me. wish i had a better job..one that actually offers vacation time......... :'(
One week guided trip to Amistad with my dad and brother. Since you said money was no object, I think KVD would make a fine guide!!
QuoteI just want to go fishing. stupid back injury...
Welcome to the club, I go see a surgeon on Monday; right now a choppy boat ride is the last thing I could handle.
when I have a fishing dream with no reservations, its about living in the mountains with a cold trout stream running down behind the house and emptying into a big flooded reservoir with smallmouth, largemouth and stripers and where my bass boat is docked within walking distance of my front door.
other than that I would love to go out west and fly fish the big montana trout streams.
well my dream bass trip would be to sugarlake mexico using a carolina rig with a charlies ribbontail tequila sunrise worm bringing up 6 pounders left and right with the radio going.
another dream would be offshore fishing from islmorada catching my kind of trifecta, a bull dolphin , nice kingfish, and a strong tuna.
good topic
Avid, are you trying to tell us that your dream fishing trip does not include Angelina Jolie?
BTW, my dream fishing trip happens all the time. I simply love getting out on the water. Of course it would be much better if I could catch a ten pound bass, but if I never do, I will have enjoyed every minute of it.
anywhere for BIG smallies....for about a month straight. another would be fishing off the coast again, which can now happen more often and for less...my wifes step dad got a boat he can use here and off the coast...this year we plan to catch some tarpon
Cliff
I'm not kidding when I say this.
My dream trip would be three days on Toledo Bend with Catt and his buddies.
QuoteI'm not kidding when I say this.My dream trip would be three days on Toledo Bend with Catt and his buddies.
Now that's one we can make come true, in about a month that Fluke is gonna be deadly on the big pond. Problem right now is my back and I'm about 3 to 4 months from a new boat.

I can wait. I'll still be around next year.
Fluke and Catt, next year I'll be Army-free and I'll have a new boat as well. Might have some extra boat space if anyone needs a ride. I'll be living about an hour, maybe two from the Bend.
PS this is post 999 by the way. Next one will be 1k for me. For some reason, I thought I should note that
Dream trip would take me to Mexico, I would love to fish a few days with Raul somewhere on the trip. I would like to fish El Sato for 4 days then to Cabo for some R&R and a couple days of Bill fishing, then maybe one more stop in Mexico for some more bassing.
Hookem
Matt

Catch me in between tournaments and I'll bring my boat and play camera man for the both of you. Or plan it during the week and that will work even better. Might be able to talk LTrain into bringing his boat as well. He is hooked on jigs, and T Bend is very jig friendly waters. ;D ;D ;D
Matt
my dream starts in my home waters fishing for tuna at the midnight lumps with the wife then we load up the camper and fish our way up to Alaska for slamon then we hunt our way back home

I'm with Redline on this one. It has always been a dream of mine to catch a Golden Dorado. Maybe one day....
My dream trip is where I leave my house at 4 in the morning, drive to the lake with my dad, fish all day, and stick a 15+.
Man thats a hard choice. I'm a crazed fan of Larry Dahlbergs show, so anyplace he's been would be fine. It would be a toss up between Tigerfish on Lake Victoria or Suriname for Wolfish and Suribe. No how about Gabon for Capitan.. oh geeze
I'd go whaling in Alaska..
Naw just playin, Probably Brazil for Peacocks.
My dream fishing trip would be to spend a week fishing Stick Marsh in March. Wait a minute.....I am doing that this year George is booked until the 17th of the week I will be there.....just trying to decide if I want to try out his partner.
Its a toss up....I have always wanted to catch peacocks in Brazil.
But, since it would be a once in a lifetime.....I am gonna go with Lake Victoria and Nile Perch fishing
Yeah Boy!!!!!
Coast of Austrillia..Bill fish- Marlin...1000+ pounds of hanging on.
H.B.A.
first off, it needs to be 3 months long, so I have enough time to do "most" of the stuff I'd want to do ;-)
Amazon river for Peacock Bass, Pacu's, Giant Amazon Cats, and anything else, big, strong, exotic, or any combination thereof.
Don't forget the large, comfortable houseboat, with a chef, and a maid or two. Two or three fishing guides to cover all aspects of the fish on the Amazon, and some of its tributaries.
Oh, and for myself of course, $100k worth of digital photo equipment, and a couple of pro photo instructors, to take my fish shots for me, and for the extra sets of eyes, so we don't miss something cool when I was holding a camera myself :-)
Anyway, shouldn't cost much more than a $ million or two, huh ? What a bargain ! ;-)
Think I'll start setting this up this afternoon. Don't know why the heck I waited so long ! Doh ! ;-)
Peace,
Fish
I would like to fish a crawdad with Fish Chris and have enough time to "do it right", no hurry and no time constraints.
I actually have 2 trips I'd love to do.
1. Lake Champlain for large and smallmouth
2. Minnesota or Canada for smallmouth, pike, walleye and muskie
Ideally the trips would be for at least a month and while I'm dreaming the guide for either of the trips would be Al Linder
Money Not an issue definetly have to make it a 8 month road trip I would start in south florida fish okechobee again, taho, st johns river, stick marsh then I would head for texas and fish toledo bend, lake fork and everything between. then id go down to mexico and fish there monster bass lakes. now its mid march so I would head up to cali and try to catch some monster volleyball shaped pigs. Now I would head all the way back to Alabama fish gunnersville then varner and so on. I would then head up through tenn and kentucky and make sure i hit dale hallow and then head toward new england id fish champlain on the way then id fish my tied for all time favorite lake wyman lake then since up dreaming i would put a boat out on wachusett resivour and then finish new england up with winnamasacki or however its spelt. Its june now and id head to My home state Mi and fish all my local favs then erie and st clair then i would go up into canada and fish all the amazing hidden lake for monster pike and bass then I would travel to minnasotta and fish minnatonka and then up to Alaska and fish the copper river and all the other great river i dont know the name of lol and catch huge king salmon. During this trip I would fishing out of a 55,000 ranger black and red and pull it around using my brand new dodge 2500 cummins fully loaded with huge tires. I would also be equipped with about 35,000 in fishing equipment.
A 2 wk fishing excursion would be awesome. I'd like to either go up to Alaska and fish for salmon and trout or go somewhere in Canada that's a nice lodge and extremely remote to fish for Pike and Walleye.
or
fishing for LM in Cali.
I lived in Florida a long time ago for a brief period when my parents were divorcing. I fished, but didn't know much of what I was doing. My dream trip would be to go back there and fish during the prime time in the spring, I wouldn't be a dream trip if I couldn't take my grandfather along either.
Well I can 't say that my fishing dream would be fishing Mexico 's big bass lakes. ;D
1.- Africa for Nile Perch and Tiger Fish
2.- SouthAmerica for Peacock Bass, Arapaima and Payara
3.- Australia for Barramundi
QuoteWell I can 't say that my fishing dream would be fishing Mexico 's big bass lakes. ;D
Careful, I hear the locals are a handful.... ;D
Make it a one year vacation:
Start In Mexico for a month at Comedero and El Salto- January
Amistad and Falcon- Feb.
Guntersville, entire Coosa chain- March- two weeks at each
California- Clear Lake and the Delta- April
Ky and Barkley- May for some post spawn ledge fishing
Dale Hollow- June- all night fishing for big brownies around the alewife spawn
Canadian lodges (4 different ones for a week each)- smallie and walleye fishing- July
Champlain and Erie (2 weeks each)- August for brownies
Lake Fork, Sam Rayburn, and Toledo Bend- September
Wilson, Wheeler, Pickwick- October drifting live bait in the tailraces
Lanier and Hartwell- November for schooling spot action
Mexico again- December
That should just about do it.
Did my dream trip a couple of times when I was a kid, but I wanna do it again:
An extended houseboat trip in the Everglades out of the Flamingo Marina with a 17' Egret flats boat and a canoe with a little outboard in tow, and enough beer and ice to last forever. We'd anchor in Little Shark River, take the flats boat out early morning to catch snook, redfish, tarpon, and seatrout along the Gulf shore in any of several creek/river mouths depending on the tides. Other days we'd take the canoe up into the little feeder creeks that open up into back bays on incoming tides and sightfish for snook and reds on the flats. Then at night we'd grill up the seatrout and any mangrove snapper we caught off the houseboat, have a feast, then use the carcasses to nightfish for big sharks.
Of course, include in this trip every piece of high-end gear possible 8-)
I would take my dad and we would head out for a year in our Zepher Travel System. We would spend a month or so in Florida (Okeechobee/ Toho) or Amistad/ Falcon and then fish the whole Elite Series as a Pro/ Coangler with some well planned stops in between events. The other stops mixed in would be Guntersville (spring), Logan Martin, Lanier (late in the year for those deep magnum spots), Champlain, Clear Lake, and the Cal Delta (time permitting-wait it is my "dream" trip so we would make it happen!) Oh yeah and we would have a travel partner the whole way - KVD. And all this would be paid for by Microsoft or some huge company like that. I could go on and on but I think I'll stop now since I am at work. Awesome thread!
Loch Ness, Scotland to look for Nessitara Rhombopterix, more commonly known as "Nessie"! Bait would have to probably be a full grown sheep! And since Plesiosaurs have some good size teeth, I'd use a steel cable leader and 20 ton test line. Wonder if Suffix makes any??
Saltwater:
First I would like to spend a week in the Keys catching Tarpon, Snook, and what ever esle would bite.
Second I would like to spend a week in New England catching huge Blues and Stripers.
These trips would be furnihed with all of Shimano's top of the line Stells reels and Calcutta series rods, only because the Cape Fear rod Company went out of business.
Freshwater:
I would like to go tackle some huge Bass in Florida with Shiners
And I would like ot go to Panama fishing for huge Peacock Bass at my Uncle's new house on the Lake down there.
Raul,
Those Tiger Fish in Africa may be one of the most aggressive fish in the world. They attack their prey at full speed WHAM! It is awesome. An ESPN Film crew got to see me catch this one.
this time of year a trip to any lake that doesnt have ice on it but no seriously the amazon for peacocks
A Dream Trip.. Well Since there is no boundaries listed... I would like a dream trip that lasted several years, practice fishing and then tournament fishing in the BIG tournaments.. Oh yeah after I remember how to fish... LMAO... Oh Mortgage heck.. It's time to go food shopping tomorrow, gotta refinance today to buy that hamburger... Have a great night...
No honestly though, I would love to have that rich uncle to let me fish for a living for awhile... Don't forget, panfish always taste great...
Duane
Lake Amistat for largemouth or Lake Erie for smallmouth.
+1 for El Salto.
Decent (?) Mexican chow and margaritas at Anglers Inn. Nice size bass all day long, with the very real possibility of a 10+ on any given cast. While we're at it, bring Mark Zona along. That guy's a nutcase! I'd be catching big bass all day, and laughing my a** off the whole time!
Either that or one of those fly-in Canada trips for untapped smallies.
...sigh...
+2 for El Salto I saw the hawgs they pulled out of that lake and would love to get a shot at catching a few.
DREAM-One month on each CONTINENT:
North America targeting largemouth and smallmouth bass, freshwater and saltwater trout, stripers, snook and redfish
South America targeting peacock bass and golden dorado
Europe targeting zander (walleye), pike, and sturgeon
Asia targeting the Mekong catfish
Africa targeting the nile perch
Australia targeting the barramundi
Antartica targeting the Antartica cod
and whatever other species I happen to catch.
REALISTICALLY-I hope to land a double digit largemouth in Florida this year.
