Where do you fish? 2024

fishing user avatarWishICouldFish reply :

I just realized that when I joined this forum I was so anxious to get some good advice that I didn't have the time to get to know anything about anyone I was getting advice from.  So my question(s) is/are where are you from?  Where have you fished and what do you do besides fishing?

Oh come on, it will be good to get to know more about each other, and I'm just in one of those moods!! 8-) ;D

fishing user avatarRandySBreth reply :

I grew up near Wichita, Ks. Fished ponds, lakes, streams for everything w/ my brothers, but bass were the main thing. Knew how to use spinning, casting and fly gear by my teen years. Traveled to Colorado and the White river tailwaters of Mo/Ark to trout fish often. Moved to the Ozarks in my early twenties mostly to fish and write, and have been here since.

Fish smallmouth streams, Table Rock and Beaver (which my inlaws have a house on), and Taney and the White most often.

Oh, and the reason I post all the time now is I am stuck home until my torn achilles tendon is healed up. A couple more weeks and I'm back out there.

fishing user avatarcpvenom reply :

If you look at the sections of the forum, you will see a section called fishing locations. This is split into catagories for different regions, and so you can see where good spots are in your area.

fishing user avatarValascus reply :

I am a 24 yr old Saint Louisian. I have been fishing since I was a wee little one with my dad. I usually fish farm ponds, state regulated ponds that are in state parks or conservation reserves, every once in a while one of the many river systems around here(they are all pretty low right now and access is difficult without a boat on some of the closer ones to me), and normally once a year hit one of the bigger man made resevoirs in the state such as The Lake of the Ozarks or Tablerock.

I absolutely love fishing, but I also am a die hard St. Louis Cardinals fan, like playing some video games every once in a while when the fish or weather ain't cooperating, and like doing most anything outdoors from playing baseball to camping, hiking, and bike riding.

Most of my time is spent with my wife helping keep an eye on our 16 month old daughter. She is a handful sometimes, but she is an absolute joy (both the wife and daughter ;)).

fishing user avatarj-bass reply :

Born and bred in deep south Texas.  I fish anywhere I can find shade, play music in a local band Rip-Tide (www.rip-tide-band.com) going back to school for my masters, and I work at a dead end job.  Life's great.

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

SW VA lakes and rivers.  Concentrate on two or three lakes within 30 minutes of home base.  Spend a lot of time on a small river at work and a decent river I grew up fishing (Clinch).

Heading upstate this weekend to fish the James for the first time.  I'll get home Sunday night and turn right back around and go halfway back across the state Monday to fish a 90 acre bass haven for a couple of days.

Once I get a bigger boat, I'll fish some of the NE TN lakes occasionally.

fishing user avatarTom Bass reply :

Hello Britt,

I live in Concord, NC and I fish Lake Norman and I sometimes fish Lake Wylie. I fish for bass and bream (panfish) and I sometimes fish for catfish. I moved here from California, where I lived for 22 years. I did fish for trout there but fishing in CA is a pain in the *** unless you live near a lake. When I was a kid we fished all over SW Pennsylvania, NW Arkansas and New Mexico.  We moved aroumd alot.

I dearly love North Carolina. We have lakes and waterways to fish and there are all kinds of ways to fish here. I am thinkin' that I need to try some salt water fishin' this next spring.

I also like to hunt on occassion and I shoot compettion pistol and Cowboy matches (Cowboy shooting kept me sane in CA).

I like to take my boat out with my wife. I love to drive my Miata convertible on NC country roads and I like to take my 4X4 out once in while for some fun...I haven't done any four wheeling here in NC yet. I prefer desert off roading. That was another thingI enjoyed in CA. Wide open spaces. Lots of places to shoot.

I am currently looking for a cheap fishing boat so that I don't feel guilty about messin' up my pleasure boat and I am having no luck but I have a feeling that this Fall someone will want to sell the boat that I am looking for so I can spend the coming months launching my little boat and catching the best fish of my life.

Best regards and don't stop fishin' :D

Tom

I fish NJ waters with some trips to PA and FL.....My new adventure are swimbaits

Leaving Saturday to fish Tarpon Lake. ......I agree life is great

fishing user avatarmudcatwilly reply :

I'm in northern California, home of the lunker.  I am fortunate enough to be within 2 hours of scores of lakes that produce big numbers and monsters.  I am also 30 minutes from the California Delta, which is a bass mecca.  In the spring, all of the lakes are great.  In the summer, you head to the delta and have your choice of hundreds of miles of waterways to catch LMB and smallies.  We also have the added bonus of great striper, salmon, halibut, and sturgeon fishing.

I fish for crappie and trout when I was little but now just fish for bass and some times striper. but I live about 10 mins from lake lanier one of the best big spotted bass lakes in the nation. and I will fish farm ponds in the summer b/c of the boat traffic on lanier.

fishing user avatarRockvilleMDAngler reply :

I live in a Washington, DC suburb called Rockville.  I am 26 and have been married for two years.  I fished a lot as a kid but stopped in my teen years and didn't pick it back up again until about a year and a half ago.  Now that all my buddies are still single and want to spend their free time chasing women and spending tons of money at bars and clubs (things that don't interest me anymore now that I am happily married), soon fishing became my recreation activity.  My wife and I fish from my Sea Eagle inflatable boat (not a bass boat like most of the guys here, but it has a motor and depth finder and is quite easy to fish from).  I fish several lakes within a half hour of my house and I sometimes venture an hour to the larger Baltimore reservoirs.  My parents recently purchased a farm in Hume, VA and there are a lot of amazing farm ponds in the area with monster bass so I fish those often as well.

fishing user avatarCoRy reply :

I'm  14 and from southwest iowa.  i mainly fish the two local lakes here, and i ride my bike to one of them, the other is too far.  One of the lakes is loaded with bass around 13-14" and big bluegills around 10" average.  Lots of channel cats too.  The other lake is good for catfish and loaded with crappie.  I fish a little pond connected to one of the lakes in the early spring during the spawn.  Also, my grandpa knows of some little farm ponds with some nice bass in them.  Football has kept me busy lately, but i fish when i can.  I hope to get the boat wet this weekend.  14' aluminum v-hull jon boat with a 65# thrust trolling motor, gets the job done here.

fishing user avatarbasser89 reply :

Another MD angler here. I was born and raised in PA and practically lived on the river and fished a few small lakes. Moved to MD and fish a mixed bag of waters. Everything from the upper Potomac, to medium sized lakes (around 500 acres), to smaller lakes and even smaller ponds. While growing up, smallies were my thing, largemouths have definitely become my passion!

fishing user avatarguest reply :

Born in California, raised to age 14 in Dallas, TX where I took up fishing in the Saline River about 1/2 mile from home, transplanted to Arkansas fishing ponds and doing commercial catfish noodling with my grandad until age 17 when I got big enough to decline doing that, then started bassing on Lake Ouachita.

I also fish Degray Lake, Greeson, the South Fork Saline River, Lakes Hamilton and Cathryn here in town, and the Ouachita River below Cathryn. I fished the Arkansas River from Little Rock to the Mississippi River for 6 years competitively, and travelled the USA on job related trips, hiring a guide wherever I landed if I could get one on short notice. My favorite places with the best fishing was Alaska, Ontario, Oregon, California, Lake Mead, Lake Fork in Texas, several in Lousiana, Kentucky's Dale Hollow, Florida, S. Carolina and Lake Michigan. I've been in all our states at least once and fished 1/2 of them at least a few hours in a trip. My last out-of-state trip was to Annapolis MD in March for a couple days on the Chesapeake and Potomac, mostly small stripers and one largemouth. Washington DC trips were the toughest to arrange for a guide on short notice, so I spent most of 6 trips there visiting the museums and other attractions, fishing there only once.

It's a GREAT land out there. Do some sampling of it while you are young enough to enjoy it.

Jim

Born and raised in Santa Cruz, Ca. I grew up fishing Loch Lomond reservoir with my father which lies in the SC mountains. We also did some ocean fishing, mostly from the SC wharf, sometimes we'd rent a boat and fish the Monterey Bay for rock fish. I have since become a bass maniac and don't fish for much else in fresh water. I still fish Loch Lomond but now I mostly fish Lexington reservoir. I recently made it up to the south bay to San Pablo. I'm hoping to get familiar with more freshwater lakes and reservoirs in the near future. I want my next big reservoir to be San Luis. I'm dying to catch me a striped bass.

fishing user avatarCaptain Cali reply :

Castaic Lagoon is where I do 95% of my fishing. The other 5% is Castaic Lake! LOL

For those who don't know...Castaic has an afterbay, AKA Castaic Lagoon. I don't know why they made 2 lakes. The main lake is about 2300 surface acres while the lagoon is about 200. I can only assume it is there to help the water flow more smoothly. Castaic is part of the California Aqueduct system so the water goes up and down all the time. BTW...Castaic holds the record for biggest largemouth ever VERIFIED! Perry ain't got nothing on Crupi!  ;D Sorry...I just had to throw that in there.  ;)

I also enjoy shooting guns (at targets) and anything that has to do with the outdoors.

fishing user avatarLive.2.Fish reply :

I'm From Northeast Nebraska. I have lived here all my life.  I mainly fish sandpits that are about 20acres.  They hold pretty good size largemouth bass (2-6lb) and really good numbers.  I did get to fish West Lake Okoboji (northwest Iowa) this spring and had great sucess!

I fish out of a lot of different boats:

My Parents have 2 pontoon boat that we fish out of.  One is a 15ft and the other one is a 12'x22' fishing/party deck that can hold about 18 ppl and fish 7 of them easily.

This year I bought my own boat: its a 17ft Basstracker with a 50hp merc with 30lb foot controled trolling motor and Garmin electronics.

I live in the Tri state area where Iowa,Nebraska and South Dakota come together. I fish all three states and the Missouri River which borders all three.  I did spend 2 summers in oxford maine(87,88) teaching little campers how to swim and water ski on Lake Thompson.

I live in South MS(Brett Favre lives in my hometown!).I've been fishing since I was 5 or 6 years old and started bass fishing when I was 15(I'm now 48).I fish out of an old Terry bass boat that I fixed up with new outboard,TM,paint, carpet,DF,casting deck, etc. There are a dozen good state lakes with Florida bass within 50 miles of where I live, and I try to give them all a good shot. There are 5 that are really close, and I fish those alot.I also float several creeks and small rivers in the area in a canoe for what I call "Tighteye" bass, basically the subspecies Suwanee bass(the local state biologist told me). It's about the only game in town this time of year. All pretty small bass.Lastly,I have a couple of private ponds that I walk the bank and fish.Good bassin' down here, but pretty slow this time of year.

fishing user avatarWishICouldFish reply :

Aww...ya'll made my post a "Very Hot Topice"  That's awesome (kinda like me) :-*.  And believe it or not I read every single one of them.  I will absoultly NEVER remember where ya'll are from, but its nice to know that I knew at one point  ;D.

Wanna know about me?

Tough!  I'm gonna tell you anyway.

I'm from Maine, born, raised and lovin' it for twenty years.  I don't fish much, atleast I never have.  I used to take my father fishing every year for father's day when I was little (we didn't need licences), but all I ever caught was sunfish.  However, I did catch more than my sister!!  I started bass fishing last year when I caught my very first, very small, small mouth bass.  Now I have caught a total of four bass in my life....WOoT!

When I am not fishing, which is most of the time, I love horse back riding, training, and showing.  I like taking risks, and I'm the crazy one the will jump on the back of a horse when no one knows how it will respond.  I work part time at McDonalds, which I hate, and I'm a full time student at Unity College studying wildlife (which I love).  When I finish college I plan on moving out west.  Not because I don't love Maine, but because there aren't many job opportunities in my field up here.  However, I do hope I get the chance to come back to Maine some day.

Ummm...Yup, that's me, if you wanna know more ask!!

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

WishICouldFish, I see you quoted John Muir in your personal text.  Have you visited Muir Woods north of San Francisco?

Sorry, I won't hijack the thread.  I fish lakes in Northwest and Central Missouri.

fishing user avatarWishICouldFish reply :

No I have not been to Muir Woods.  I just respect John Muir a great deal.  Have you been?  I would like to go someday.  I don't travel much, but I plan to start once I'm finished with college.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

WishIcouldFish, I sent you a PM about Muir woods.
