Whats You Definition Of A 'fun Fish' 2024

fishing user avatarBigbass37 reply :

Going out and fishing can be fun every time but what would you consider to be you fun fishing trip. Small/big tournaments? No pressure fishing??

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

i usually always fish solo & when i do i'm nose to the grindstone and always fish like there's money on the line, its just the way i'm wired...but the times i do really relax some and its more on the lines of an easy going fun fishin trip, is the rare times i actually do fish with someone else...but even then i'm still trying to get that solid limit worth before the days out, just not quite as hardcore about it...

fishing user avatarFish'N Impossible reply :

To me fun fishing is when you just go out and wing it. Hit the water and have no real objective in mind as to finding a certain type of fish. Go out in the AM try to find some bass, break out the crappie/bluegill rod poke around, and just kinda glide around for the day. Work on the fishermans tan, talk to other boaters on the water and just all around have a fun no pressure day.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

Fun fishing is when you are not fishing for money, just fishing for the fun of it.

Tom

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

All fishing to me is fun.  I haven't fished a formal tourney but i have done all types of fishing and the only one that doesn't really appeal to me is deep sea fishing....maynbe if i was on my own boat, finding the fish i would get more enjoyment but reeling in fish someone else found doesn't do it for me, even though the one tuna i caught was some good sushi at the boat dock :)

fishing user avatarDwight Hottle reply :

I am not a tournament fisherman so all fishing is fun for me. Some days are more fun than others based on results. It's not always about how good the fish catching is but but how good the experience is.

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

Fishing with my 2 boys. This is the BEST of fun times!

I did really like the small local money events I used to fish years ago.  Those were still fun, nobody had Napoleon syndrome.  The bigger Pro-Am semi pro regional stuff was not what I'd call a fun environment.  All business, all the time.  More stress than fun and very challenging.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

These will always be the Best Days.

A-Jay

fishing user avatarbasshole8190 reply :

A funn fish to me is the little 2lb'er who allmost snatches the rod out my hand and makes me think i got a hawg on the line lol those can be just as fun as an 8 lber or any time i hear my son say dadda "biggen" !!! They're all big to him. seeing that smile when he's getting his pic taken with his fish is just as good as as anything else i can think think of.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I do nothing but fun fish, my target species does vary quite a bit.  Once ya hit about 60 years of fishing and have a caught about everything from bluegill to marlin, as long as the rod has a bend it in it I'm having fun.  Are there fish I think that are more fun than others......................OH YEAAHHHHHHHH !

fishing user avatar0119 reply :

All fishing is fun!  Fishing with my best friend tops them all.  Talking to me in "cracker" slang, telling me the time by just looking at the position of the sun.  Telling me these long old jokes that have zero political correctness to them.  Then when a school of Jacks or Snook go crazy frothing up the water, birds diving and we are catching them on every cast, getting out lines crossed even, laughing all the way.

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

I love it all , tournament fishing in particular , it really makes you think a lot of the time and pressures you to do better , but there is no better time on the water than when you can spend that time with family especially when the family is having a great time , everything comes together , fishing and the bonds get stronger as a unit , no matter the troubles you have from within , they all seem to go away with a loaded rod .

fishing user avatarIowaHusker28 reply :

Fun fishing is just about anytime I'm out on the water, wether it be myself or with my buddies or my dad. I love it all, and I love the competitiveness of a tournament or some kind of competition. Catching that big bass/big bag in a tournament or in a friendly wager that is what really gets my heart going. About 95% of the time I am all about catching bass and going out there to catch the biggest and most but, I'll fish the crappie spawn or maybe some junk pond fishing.  But If your catching fish with your friends and family theres never a bad time on the water!

fishing user avatarNC_Bass6 reply :

any time im on the water.

fishing user avatarFelix77 reply :

True fun fishing to me is when I am out alone messing around with different baits and trying to catch fish.  No agenda, just working different stuff.  The excitement of catching something on a new bait or technique is a blast!

I enjoy tournament fishing but it's not as much fun as what I mentioned.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

It's all "fun" fishing!

If I'm perch jerking with my grandkids or fishing a tournament.

If it appears that I am ignoring you...it is most likely because I am:

1. Busy Fishing

2. Thinking about fishing

3. Talking about fishing

4. Reading about fishing

OR

I!m just plain not interested in what you are talking about!

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Tournaments are usually fun for me, with the exception of really inclement weather.  Even then, the adventure is worth it.  I do refer to recreational fishing as "fun fishing," in conversation with other tournament fisherman.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

All of it's fun to me..........if it wasn't, I wouldn't be doing it. Yeah, I have had some days, both in tournaments, or non-tournament situations that the outcome at the end of the day is not what I wanted..........but it was still fun getting there.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

It's all fun or I wouldn't do it.  There are times that are more fun than others.  Taking family members and friends out on a trip is one kind of fun.  Going out on your own, analyzing the situation, and landing a lunker or a number of chunky fish is another type of fun.  Each of these has its place.

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

All days on the water are truely a gift from above but those days where you know the wife is happy and everyone is healthy and things kind of just come together are the awesome ones. Rain or shine, tourney or not....there are just those days when the eagles are flying, the fish are bitin, ya got a good lunch and ya got good company.

fishing user avatarMainebass1984 reply :

Anytime I go fishing it for fun whether I am in a big money tournament or not.

fishing user avatartrailer reply :

Every trip is a fun fishing trip. When it ceases to fun I will quit. It's just a hobby, not a job. Don't care about fishing for money.

fishing user avatarmjseverson24 reply :

I personally have the most fun tournament fishing, especially since my father is my partner most of the time, but I do typically call fishing a lake that I don't have a tournament on "fun fishing".

Mitch

fishing user avatarTlaz reply :

Never fished a tournament myself. ( maybe it is time? ) I mainly go with my brothers or my wife and son. When I go with my brothers, it is a little competetive which is great but NOTHING compares to my 8 year old hooking up with a fish. I could go all day and not catch a thing. If my family does, I am very happy for them. Last season was the best by far for him. He pulled in quite a few 3-5 lb'ers.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

For me, every fish is a fun fish. The big ones are just more fun than the little ones.

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

I can think of two instances when it wasn't a fun fish.  The first one was when it was 45 degrees on the lake and so windy that I couldn't hold my boat anywhere long enough to fish effectively AND I was miserably cold.  The other was an August day when it was 92 degrees with high humidity and not a hint of a breeze and I was about to die of heat stroke.  Other than those two occassions, everything else has been a fun fish.  Or at least reasonably so.

fishing user avatargrampa1114 reply :

I fish with some fine fishermen and that includes my wife.....if you're laughing it's a fun fishing trip...and we're always laughing.

fishing user avatardavi754 reply :

I love to go fishing with my brother an dad on the john boat with electic motor, on a resivoir. Before we go out, we talk smack about who is gonna get on the fish first and who is gonna catch the biggest. My brother lives in maryland and im in virginia, i tell him fish down here dont bite yankee baits. ( sorry northern fishermen, just picking). But those are some of the best times, fishing laughing and telling old stories we remember. That has 2 be fun fishing!

fishing user avatarolegs reply :

For me fun fishing is when I go fishing with my wife and kids. Usually, we fish for perch or pan fish or sometimes for active bass.

fishing user avatarBrian6428 reply :

I always have fun fishing, this is why I will never enter a tournament. My most fun fish was a warm summer morning fishing from shore. Only had an hour or so to fish so I got there while it was still dark. On my 5th or so cast, when I could barley see my buzz bait, I heard a loud splash and set the hook. Reeled in a ~4lber. Took pics but they're all too dark. That was a fun morning.

fishing user avatarlanzbass reply :

Taking the family and dogs fishing is always fun for us , even if we don't catch anything .

We always have a great time :)

Why not? We all enjoy fishing for fun, but In my opinion tournaments are great, it's fun putting your skills to the test and you can really meet some cool people and learn a lot too!

I guess it depends on the type of people enter the tournament!  I despise them and the folks who enter them around here.  The Flatsmasters and IFA ravage my local waters. Destroy good spots, tear up grass beds.  Start fights with recreational fishermen over spots they are already on.  Empty entire areas of fish and most die after being released for their selfish gain.  Same on my areas bass waters which are pretty small and lay wasted after a tournament.  Theres nothing like working a shoreline to have a couple egomaniacs on a airboat try to blow you off it. Just because they are blessed pretend pro's who feel the game makes them more priviledged to water you are already on.  Sorry for taking the thread to a dark place!

fishing user avatargeo g reply :

My whole goal in fishing is to have fun and relax. It is fun anytime something decides to pull on my line. I love fishing with a partner and sharing the experience. The ultimate trip is when we get into to Peacock Bass. Pound for pound they are far superior fighters to black bass. A decent size Peacock will do some crazy things. They take long fast runs, and go airbourne in wild flips. The fight just never stops, even when lipped. The ultimate freshwater game fish, its great to live in South Florida!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'd have to have Florida's Fish and Game on Speed Dial 888-404-3922...Drop a dime on the next guy that runs you off a spot and then see how long it takes their attitude to change. That's the dark that everyone needs to hear about.....JMHO

FWC guys are spread pretty thin.  They used to sit in our office because the Gov. only alotted them slight amounts of fuel and they couldnt waste it patrolling.  9/11 made it even worse, when they removed a huge chunk of the force to patrol harbors for terrorists.  More often than not in this country your best protection is yourself.

0119, you are right on.

fishing user avatarFishing Rhino reply :

There are times when I prefer to fish alone, but not often.  Most of the time I prefer fishing with my buddies.  Some days it's nice to be the captain, and other days, it's nice to fish at the back of the boat.

For me, the fun is better when it can be shared with others.

I think it's selfish not to share! ;)

fishing user avatarHyrule Bass reply :

fishing is pretty much fun for me anytime i get to go. doesnt matter if i catch or not. but usually i do catch because i often fish for multiple species. i will have a few catfish rods out and be tossing around some artificials while waiting for a bite on the catfish rods. of course the "catfish" rods often catch bass, bluegill and perch as well.

but for me its mostly just about spending time at a body of water and taking in the nature and surroundings. just straight up relaxing and enjoying myself. if i happen to go with my nieces, then its all the more fun actually. i enjoy helping and watching them catch fish, the joy it brings them is amazing, they absolutely love to fish and i dont mind putting my fishing on hold to help them. their joy of catching fish trumps any joy i may have catching fish for myself.

fishing user avatarDogBone_384 reply :

Catching large fish makes fishing is fun for me, but is better when fishing with friends & my nephews.

I suppose fishing with good weather and without interruptions is great.

Catching something while trying something new is also right up there at the top...

Not getting called into work while you're on a roll....

Not getting a call from the wife saying "WHERE ARE YOU"....

Meeting new people while fishing too.....

Lookie there, it seems there are many reasons fishing is fun

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

"Fun fishing" is variable for me. Can be when I'm out alone, or bank fishing a small pond with my boys and a friend catching all manner of fish. Fun fishing can be when everyone gets to catch something big or small. I'm a non-tournament fisherman, too. So the sport is for enjoyment, so it can be "fun" all the time, but it isn't, LOL. Sometimes I am my worst competitor and sometimes a nasty birds nest or snag on every cast can make a "fun" outing "not fun".... know what I mean, Vern?
