I like the smell of bass but I don't want to be smelly all day around the house and whatnot cause other people don't like the smell.
What do you use to get the slime/smell of bass off your hands? I don't want to have to buy something though, just something at home. I have tried washing with soap and salt and it gets the slime but not the smell.
Wash your hands with tooth paste. It gets the smell off pretty good.

X2
Saliva
skunk oil
That's the smell of success, my man!
^^very true !
I use rubbing alcohol, helps find the cuts too haha
How well do those steel scent removing bars work?
I use JJ's Magic.
I go catch some catfish. That gets rid of the bass smell

They work great, but you have to touch every area of your hands with them (no lather.) I don't use them for fish (just wash with soap,) but I do use them if I chop garlic or something like that.

Hahahaha. That was hilarious.
I use tooth paste as well.
Wipe your hands on you pants just as soon as you release the fish.

Lemon juice or vinegar.
just regular hand soap or dish soap, works fine for me. just rub your hands together real good with the soap for a couple minutes and then rinse...
I usually wash with soap and water, but other remedies:
Tomato juice
vanilla extract
activated charcoal
Vinegar works, too.
Wash thoroughly, rinse with vinegar then wash again with soap.
If you want to prevent that fishy smell in the first place ~
Just come fishing with me . . . . . .

Now there is a man with a sense of humor.
i use toothpaste first then since i dont like to go around with tooth paste smelling hands i use a lemon...also gets rid of the nasty ballyhoo smell and squid smells too lol
I will use dish soap, followed by hand sanitizer. Same principal as alcohol I suppose.
Old school Crest toothpaste or a stainless steel "soap bar." work the best.

My sister gave me one of these about 5 years ago...I don't know if its do to the age, but the thing doesn't work???
Freshwater...just soap really.
But a day on the ocean ... I use bleach. Then I wash my hands with vinegar, to remove the bleach, then I just washed my hands with Softsoap. PITA I know, but it works ....
Time...and an undetstanding wife.
Washing hands with head and shoulders does wonders! I think it takes the fish oil off your hand, like it takes the oil off of hair.
regular soap works well enough for me

Pretty much for me too. I don't find bass to be that much of a problem with smell. The tougher odors for me are squid, frozen sardines and barracuda, as disgustingly as they smell they are are absolutely wonderful on the plate. I wash with soap before I leave the marina, then again when I get home, the smell may take a few hours to dissipate.
Soft soap or gojo
Gasoline.
grab a handful of fresh green pine needles and rub your hands with it works to get any fish smell off.
Thanks for all the advice! Haven't gone fishin for a few days so I haven't got a chance to test any yet.
Bacon grease... hands smell like honey maple rather than fish. I almost ate my fingers.
i actually like the smell of fish, just as i like the smell of gun cleaning products on my hands, but for my wife's sake i wash my hands with soap and it takes care of most of it...
Soap and tablespoon of sugar.
Do you know why Sushi is served with pickled ginger? Eating Sushi with finger is the proper and cool way of doing it in Tokyo and pickled ginger, not only eatable, but removes the fishy smell from you finger.
However unless you are sushi chef other methods mentioned already should be easier.
No sushi should ever smell fishy.
If it does, run Or else you'll get the runs. .
hand sanitizer
Try grass. It's loaded with chlorophyll, which is pretty good at neutralizing unpleasant odors.
Grab a fistful of grass, crunch it up in your hands, then rub it over your hands, and around your fingers.
It will work better if the grass is damp.
stainless steel. they sell the "jimmy houston" stainless steel bars of soap at bps. it's good for getting gas, fish, & other undesirable smells off. i learned this at a wakeboard camp about 10 years ago. it works super good!
pickle juice...

I never thought about this. Coming from a lobster fisherman that dealt with bait smell everyday, I gotta think this may be an excellent solution, and it's free.
Tooth paste! Colgate baking soda and peroxide works quite nicely. Add a quarter size amount to your palms and rub it around then wash/rinse it off. Usually takes the smell of every time!
Ive found three things
1: Hand Sanitizer
2: Stainless Steel Soap Bar(not soap) aka The Fish
3: TW sells a soap and it works awesome

My neighbors dog proves that theory wrong big time!!!
I think the key is not letting the fish slime dry... wet hands before grabbing the fish if practical and then rinse/wipe immediately after releasing the fish. I never need more than regular soap and water if I do that. If I let it dry, I have to do all the other things mentioned in this thread.
I've never really noticed a bad smell from bass that regular hand soap wouldn't remedy.
If you still smell rank after that then it might not be your hands fault.

IMO bass don't have too bad of a smell, so many other species are far more pungent, bait and squid are pretty bad too.
I came into this thread expecting a hilarious back and forth...... I am disapointed
