What are some things you think about while fishing?
My question every cast is what's the biggest fish that saw my lure why didn't she bite! I always think about that and when I catch a big one I wonder if she was part of a group of even bigger ones, I know they tend to stay around fish in their size range.
Where to cast next, kicking bass, where to cast next, kicking bass, where to oh wait that's a hit set hook!
Where the fish are next cast.
How did Kate Upton get into that swiming suit?

Or what she looks like out of it
That until I seen her in the Marilyn Monroe get up. That my friend is worth paying child support for!On 10/4/2013 at 7:26 AM, roadwarrior said:How did Kate Upton get into that swiming suit?
Unfortunately I'm thinking about work. What I can do next in training, what else can I prepare my rook for etc......:the trees blowing, ooooo look shiney object I like peanut butter lol
Oh snap!!!! Lol
I think about anything and everything. But I've become pretty good at blocking things out most of the time, so I'm only focused on nature and what I'm doing at that moment.
Just one more cast... Just one more, then I'll leave... an hour goes by... if I catch one on this cast... Oh what the heck...while I'm here....what's it gonna hurt?
I always TRY to concentrate on what my lure is transmitting back to me. What almost always happens is I'll hook and land a fish only to forget what I was doing when I hooked it. Loss of short term memory is a b+#ch............What were we discussing???
how I have this nice Ranger, down imaging units with GPS, over $2,500 in rods and reels, storage compartments stuffed with tackle, piles of fishing magazines and I still cant get a bass to bite.

This is what I thinking when it gets to that time where I told my wife I would be home.
Either sex or lack thereof.
New p.b. is always what I'm thinking. Where are the hawgs hiding now.

And we couldn't buy a bite right?
I don't think when I'm fishing. My mind is automatically programmed on what I have to do. I stay motivated and focused to throw my ritual of lures. I've done this so many times now I just do it. I get into my own zone and fish. I'm zoned out and focusing so hard at times I don't hear anything around me. I don't even hear people talking to me.
It's me and the fish. I mainly focus on my presentations making them perfect. I just don't have time to think about anything else. I try to increase my catch on every trip. I don't beat myself up if I don't catch more bass on every outing but I do try to figure out what I did wrong to improve myself for the next trip. It's the challenge that keeps me going back.
was that a bite? nope just some weeds. THAT WAS A BITE (followed by extreme hook set pulling bait out of the water and flying at my face at mach speed.) nope that wasnt a bite...
What my bait looks like / what it's doing down there. When throwing topwater I just visualize a fish absolutely crushing it.
It depends on how much rest i have gotten prior to going out. I have days when i am well rested and relaxed and focused and days when i am fatigued and battle endless wandering mind chatter. Its amazing what a five minute nap can do for your mood and mind set.
life and personal introspection mixed with moments of sheer panic and excitement.
If fishing for fun, try not to think, shut the mind off.
If a tourney, next cast, should I switch baits, should I change presentation, wonder how my competition is doing, why is my boater doing that.....
For the most part it is all related to fishing - thinking about the details of how I am working the bait, where should I cast next, thinking about what I am feeling with my bait, thinking about boat position, etc.

All I do is fish top water I have these thoughts every cast nothing like a top water strike IMO
I like turtles
I'll be honest.....
Boobies.
I just run through the calculations. How many times and places have I run a specific lure, how many times I think I need to. How many times I have thrown it using a different retrieve. What the weather is doing, what the water temperature is. I try to remember everything I see on the forums here and the articles I've read, and videos I've watched to try and implement the different techniques.
Unfortunately, all this thinking doesn't seem to really help. The places I have to fish at the moment only produce on T-rig with green pumpkin/watermelon colors with a hint of blue. It doesn't seem to matter, post spawn/spawn/pre-spawn/middle of the summer/fall. If the water is not frozen over and I throw this setup long enough or slow enough, that is what they hit. I'm trying to figure out new lures and baits but they don't hit anything else it seems. I've only caught a couple fish on a couple other lures at random.
I think about a lot of different things, usually where I'm heading next. One thing I've noticed is I seem to catch the fish when I'm deepest in thought.

Yea I fish top water and it seems like they strike when I am not focused on my lure
As my lure is being reeled in if I can see it above the sight line(crankbait) or on the top(topwater) I'm 100% focusing behind my lure to look for the short strikes. Then I can adjust my speed or change lure color next. Once these two changes are tried I adjust the size of my lure.
I think not watching behind our lures is the biggest mistake we can make.
When I first get out on the water I tend to think about fishing. After I'm on the water for a while my mind starts to wander.

Sometimes it seems like the more you spend on any hobby the less succesful you are. I have had more sucess this year fishing out of my 15 year old kayak, 3 poles and a small amount of tackle than I have with my big boat with all the electonics and all the rods, reels and tackle it has room for..
I think about family and friends and how I hope there is fishing in heaven.
chinese food. i love chinese food.
Completely depends on the day and what the past few have been like for me and my family. If its been a bad week then i wont really be focusing on fishing, itll be more of a deep thinking in the woods kind of deal. If its been a good week then im focused on that next pig to make the week even better. If im with my buddies (aside from ChasingBass) then its just jackin around, not much fishin goes on
Always about where the big bass is...until time goes by and i start daydreaming about who knows what. I do know that i always end up singing or whistling something stupid or some tune that i hate and is obnoxious but gets stuck in my head.
Uh.. Ginger or Mary Ann?
Since I'm usually throwing a Texas rig, I think about how that plastic worm looks in the water and if it is rising off the bottom too much or too little.
I don't think about anything. That's why I love to fish.
My mind never quits. Drives me nuts sometimes. I have to consciously shut off the ramblings and make a conscious effort to be aware of my surroundings. Then I can concentrate on making every cast more accurate, putting the lure exactly where I want it instead of in a tree or dead centered on the top of a stump. Why do I hit a 3" stump dead center and can't hit the 100 yards of water around it?
Am I useing the right bait?
Did I throw it at the right spot?
Too Fast Dummy!, Too Fast!!
OK what am I gonna try next,
Man it looks good here,
Bears better win this week!!
7 months 24 days to retiring!!!!
Mike
In Tournaments its about the cast I am on or the next one. I try hard not to stray but it happens.
Fun fishing it can vary. Sometimes absolutely nothing at all.
my mind rambles.....job, fishing, life in general, the afterlife, jigs, trailers, making a 10 mile run, job, I should do these 100 things when I get back to work, jigs, pea gravel, the government, that guy just caught one, making a 15 mile run, jigs, smallmouth, do I hate my job or just my boss?, I should go to church more often, jigs, is it time for a sandwich?, I want a diet coke, do I really like the terrova?, taxes, shakeyheads, JIGS, I to wash my truck, wonder what my employees are doing, do I want to get married?, I doubt I will get married, I got paid yesterday, I don't get paid for another 2 weeks, why don't we go back to the moon, 7 mile run, jigs, wonder what that guy is catching, what is over there, that he is camped on, jigs, am I happy?, how could I be more happy, Kate Upton, job, do I want to move, jigs, why is the wind blowing, tatsu, should I supertune more reels, I like this boat or do I?, jigs on pea gravel, run to the dam?, my parents, will I ever retire, how will I retire, jigs, I wish I could retire, I am getting old, why? jigs...........
ask anyone who fished with me and they will tell you the same.
sometimes my mind drifts but 95% of the time im just fishing and enjoying the outdoors trying to catch some pigs!
I usually think about how to approach my next target or analyze the conditions to figure out how to get the fish to bite more.

Ginger man, Ginger. I don't trust guys who would honestly choose Mary Ann.
At any rate I try not to think too much while fishing. I'm just trying to enjoy each individual moment.

Hey Brian - that is classic.
More importantly after reading this, I am now able to understand all your other posts completely.
Thanks.

Fat chicks.
All day.
When is the big state record bass going to finally pick up my bait???
I try to think of nothing but what I'm doing at that moment: fish. Unfortunately the rest of life creeps in and distracts me sometimes, but since I'm still a newbie to baitcasting and soft baits, I try to focus on technique and what the bait is doing at the bottom of the pond.
Always wandering what a bass is doing and what its thinking while looking at my lure, and when the bites tough I'm thinking of food and every aspect about how i suck and am the worst fisherman to ever drop a line out in the water ever in the history of mankind ever ever. lol
Usually thinking I'm in the wrong place...
Fishing and Nature. I wanted to be wildlife biologist or fishing guide.
Alot of times, I dont even look at the lure and go by just feel and rhythm.. often am staring at the lil baitfish in the water swimmin around or the beautiful trees outlining a quiet lake.. rays of sunlight peeking thru distant clouds.. or how the dawn or dusk sky looks like a divine watercolor painted by the great fisherman Himself for all of us to enjoy..
I go fishing to get my mind off stuff. So normally I just relax and focus on what my lure is doing.
Im always watching the d**n time, weve got 1 vehical right now so when 230 rolls around im panickin to get back.i highly recommend not being late to pick up the ol lady because you went fishing, or just plain fell asleep! Oh and here fishy fishy c'mere big bass I wont hurt you! I do the same stuff too papajoe. I get lots of grief for forgeeting everything must be bass on the brain syndrome
CAST...
Huh, why didn't I get bit on that?
CAST...
Ok, now why didn't THAT get bit
CAST....
I don't understand bass, why didn't that get a huge explosion?
CAST...
Perfect spot!! I'm awesome! What?!?! Why didn't that get crushed?
CAST....
OK, if there was ever a time to get bit, it was on THAT!
CAST...
Great.... a dink. :/

I think that a lot too.
I think about many things but the one consistent thought I have each and everytime I hit the water Is this: I'm truly thankful for the opportunity to fish most anytime I want and have a little expendable income to buy what I need.

Mostly I think about what I'm doing wrong when they're not biting, and about how much I hate LgMouthGambler with every fiber of my body
Other than that, not much else is going on up there when I'm fishing. It's my Zen time and I often find an hour or more will pass without me even realizing it, I get so involved in my hate for LGM, errrrr, love of fishing
P.S. J/K Admins, I Love LgMouthGambler
P.S.2. I do a lot of wishful thinking if you would, I imagine the fish following my lure and striking it, this is magnified when I'm working a top water lure. When I catch a nice one I think about it a lot after I released it. About how it hit, how he fought, I try to decompose and analyze every millisecond from strike to release. I'm a software developer by day, so it sort of comes natural to me

LOL. You imagine the fish hitting and following the lure because that's all you have? The imagination, since they don't actually bite your lures? Bwahahahahaha!!

Yes, I also think a lot about how a boob like you catches so many fish while I get skunked! I mean we're on the same boat, using the same lure, on the same line, rod, and reel, throwing in the same spots, seemingly working the lure the same way! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW FRUSTRATING THAT IS?!?!?!?
