What To Eat While Fishing 2024

fishing user avatarloodkop reply :

I know I'm supposed to eat while fishing but I often find it just to much of an effort to stop fishing and sit down to eat. I would like have some nutritious chewy stuff I could eat with one hand while holding a rod or steering wheel with the other. Suggestion/ opinions?

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

fishing user avatarBrian Needham reply :

Moon pies (double deckers)

liver cheese sammiches (must be bought a bait store)

goldfish crackers

david sunflower seeds

peunut butter cookies

vienna saug and crackers

12 pack diet coke

that should get you through the day.

fishing user avatarmsolorio reply :

beef jerky, raw unsalted almonds, turkey dogs, you can wear a camel back so you dont have to grab a bottle of water while fishing, stuff like that. try to keep it healthy and nutritious so your body gets what it needs to properly function both mentaly and physicaly.

fishing user avatarbigfishbk86 reply :

Cliff bars!!!!!!!!!

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

Small meals or snacks every few hours is the healthiest way to eat, increases your metabolism plus an energy boost. Dinner the night before an outing I make sure not to eat food with too much sodium, same goes for breakfeast, no ham, bacon or sausage, increases thirst. I avoid taking any soft drinks that contain sugar or artificial sweeteners, again it increases thirst. Being thirsty and needing to hydrate are 2 different issues, for me 1-2 bottles of water is sufficient, it doesn't have to be cold for me.

Being a diabetic I watch what I eat. A good size bowl of the lowest carb cereal and a couple of slices of low sodium cheese for breakfeast. I take 1 or 2 energy bars with me, again the ones lowest with the lowest carbs and highest protein. I'll pack a PB &J sandwich on low carb bread with sugar free jelly or jam. I require less water to swallow a sandwich with jelly, my water is basically to keep me hydrated and my body tells me when I need it.

I eat no junk food.

fishing user avatartugsandpulls reply :

power bars and lots of water

fishing user avatarZach Dunham reply :

It has become tradition for me to stop at a Turkey Hill and pick up a gas station sub. Sometimes I actually find myself missing my gas station sub if I go fishing without it now. GAS STATION SUBS!!! lol

fishing user avatarSfritr reply :

How about Tuna Fish Sammiches (that way all that falls over the side of the boat becomes chum)

Seriously, homemade beef jerky, cliff bars, water, beer/alcohol does NOT make it on my boat

fishing user avatarBlue Streak reply :

Penrose sauges, pepperoni peppers and crackers

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

Coffee and donuts on the way to the ramp. I'll bring a sandwich and some apples and eat while I'm idling thru a no wake zone.

fishing user avatarCaptain Shane Procell reply :

Power bars keep my energy up. I quit eating garbage while on the boat.

fishing user avatarHyrule Bass reply :

Ham/Balogna Sandwiches, Chips, Cookies, Crackers, Peanuts...etc

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I like to bring some jerky and nuts. Lots of water. Maybe a refreshing cold soda in the middle of the day.

GEEEEEEE WIZZZZZZ !!!!

I would need a bigger boat to haul my fat a** around after all that LOL !!!

fishing user avatarfowlskies reply :

I usually have a bunch of granola bars in my dry box so when ever I feel like I need a bite i'll eat one of them while still fishing. I'm suprised no-one esle brings these, unless that is what a cliff bar is.

Although if the kids are with me (which is most of the time) some candy, chips, or crackers make it on the boat along with whatever drink they pick out at the store while we're picking up crawlers. I think sometimes this is the best part for them, they're all excited to go fishing and then on top of that they get to go to the store and pick out whatever drink and candy/snack they want, its like an added bonus. Although when one of them gets a decent sized fish on their line its hard to compare.

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

I like peanut butter crackers, cheese crackers, beef jerky and cheese. If I am fishing the whole day, I pack a sandwich(normally turkey and cheese) and a little bit of chips. Also normally have a hard boiled egg. I drink Dr. Pepper like a feine so I always have one or two of those and some water.

Jeff

fishing user avatarGangley reply :

PB&J or Ham Sandwhiches

Bottles of Water

Grapes or apple slices

fishing user avatarhydrilla6 reply :

I pack stuff in wrappers that can be used to hold/dispense the food, that way I do not get lake/fish scoob on my foods.

fishing user avatarSoulgasm reply :

Raw almonds and granola bars. Stuff I can eat with one hand that isn't messy. You don't want to get cheese puff powder all over your reel. :D

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

jerky, nuts, grapes, cherries, apples, bananas, string cheese, water.

No beer. No sausages. No soda. No junk food.

fishing user avatarClash City Rocker reply :

Nothing beats a buttered roll and a sugar-free energy drink at 0:Dark-Thirty on your way to go fishing. I usually bring a quick check sub on the boat or to the shore.

You bring banannas on your boat !!????!!!!???

fishing user avatarNBR reply :

I like chicken legs. They are reasonably good for you and have a built in handle. I buy large quantities in the spring, wrap them individually and freeze. I usually cook them on the grill the night before my trip, wrap them with cling wrap and put in my small cooler along with lots of water and some cheese. If I'm going to be fishing several days in a row I often cook more than a days supply and put them wrapped in the frig.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Grilled bologna, a slab of extra sharp cheese with mustard

on soft white Wonder Bread. I like a bag a chips with the

sandwich. Being the health nut I am, no mayonnaise!

I guess that would explain my weight gain last summer!!!

but really, I just keep those things in the boat, for snacks. Don't eat all of it, everytime out. It just good to have variety, LOL.

fishing being the hobby it is, I find there is no sense in being a health freak while having fun. If you want to eat candy and fun snacks while fishing, By God you should be able to.

OTOH, if you want to be a healthy food guy, by all means go for it.......I will smile and think of you while eating a moon pie!! HAHAHAHA.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

All these snacks sound excellent - but don't you think it would all be just that much tastier if ya dipped it in a bottle of JJ's Magic ?

fishing user avatarbassfisherjk reply :

Peanutbutter sandwhich and ice tea.

fishing user avatarpiscicidal reply :

No bananas on the boat...they're bad luck!

One Publix sub (FL guys know what I'm talking about) or two tuna fish sandwiches and a thermos full of water.

BEER!!! It's dinner in a can.

Help yourself my friend, all I was saying is I am already big enough, and if I were to eat all of that I would surely need more room in the boat AND my britches, that is if I didn't die from a heart attack first LOL.

My 6 pack is now a KEG, don't laugh ! it took a lot of budweiser arm curls to get it to the perfectly rounded shape it's in now...it's sexy and I like it !!!

As for the moon pies...I don't think the diet drinks are going to be much help to ya.

fishing user avatarBob C reply :

I try not to drink much coffee or water if I plan on staying out very long. How long can you go without a pee break? The lakes I fish wouldn't be good for trying it in the boat. :Idontknow:

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Carry a jug, like a Clorex container. Pee in the container, empty and rinse.

That might be a little awkward with all the houses close to shore. I've seen people sitting with binoculars and watching guys fish. :(

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

If you are trying to be discrete, do you really care if someone

gets a glimpse of your wiener? In my case, especially on a cold

Good one, nitro!!!!

I don't drink beer on the boat because I really don't need the extra "propellant".

fishing user avatarjkarol24 reply :

I almost always have the lucky honey roasted peauts. Gotta have them or i wont catch fish. Some sort of trail/snack mix will also make it in the boat along with some gatorade and water. However, i've leaned that for me, i CANNOT and WILL NOT eat ANYTHING before about 9:30 at the earliest. #2 on the water is simply the worst. Plus, i stick to a small dinner as well. Also, i always have an energy shot/drink in the tow vehicle to slurp before i start driving. Man am i tired after a tournament day, I need something to get me home. As for peeing, i have no shame :Idontknow: Head to the back of the boat, pee over the back and try not to hit the motor.

Ha!!! speak for yourself, I just convince people it's a water cooled fishing rod...funny part is they ask where they can get one...go figure.

And besides RW we were talking about food, couldn't you have just pm'd the guy for goodness sake !! LOL.

Haha...thats basically what I bring except its one of those big Maxwell House cans with the handle on it. Its a good unisex p*ss can, when my daughter's have to go its a lot easier than a clorox bottle. It also doubles as a bailing can if need be.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

i actually try not to eat on the water and/or wade fishin. in the morning before i go on a outing, i fix what i call The Big Country which equals; 4 pieces of bacon, 3 eggs & whole potato for pile of fresh hash browns, 2 pieces of toast, glass of milk & a glass of juice and i'm good to go ;)

i'll drink more fluids then anything but i'll bring a beef stick or a couple granola bars if needed as back up but usually end up eating those when i get back and loaded up for the trip home...

fishing user avatartholmes reply :

Fresh fruit, dry roasted peanuts, hard-boiled eggs (I peel 'em and put them in a Zip-Loc bag before I leave) a few bottles of water. maybe a sammich or two depending on how long I plan to be out.

I'm also diabetic and have to be careful what I eat. Definitely no sweets,

Tom

I don't know that this threat has helped all that much but it has gotten me to thinking. I recently got diagnosed as a diabetic, just a couple of weeks ago.(I don't have to do insulin shots, just eat pills and watch diet for now) Some of the healthy things (like carry a lot of water and stay hydrated) I already do. I'll just have to find some food I like that tolerate travel and cooler storage well. Previously I just got a subway sandwich (or 2) and kept them in a water tight lunch box.

Now, I can't eat as much and I'm supposed to spread the meals out throughout the day. I'm supposed to go back to the hospital dietitian at the end of March and I'll get some ideas from them.

fishing user avatar200racing reply :

any small sized stack can be put in a nalgene style bottle and "drank" hands free, awesome for any fishingthat yuck up your hands like cats or saltwater.

put hotdogs on to boil. put hot water in a thermos to warm it whille this happens. when they are done put them in the thermos then pour in all the boiling hotdog water it can hold. hours later breaks out the buns and saved fastfood mustard/ketchup packet and enjoy.

i also carry cheese single, crackers and canned ham for a group. min ham n cheese sandwiches.

fishermen helping fishermen right there man!!!! good stuff. i love me some homemade venison jerky (while it lasts, normally run out around late april) peanut butter sandwiches are always clutch, and i love my fruit punch gatorade 32 oz bottle!!

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

@ Fishes

It would appear you're a type 2 diabetic, so am I. Medication and diet generally make type 2 manageable. Personally I would see a diabetic specialist, most have a nutritionist on staff. The right diet is essential, a proper balance of carbs, protein, and fats, more important than just reducing your carb intake.

Within a reasonable amount of time my cholesterol went from 257 to125, my BP now averages 120/70, my a1c went from 14% to 6.I%, and my energy level and strength are restored...........I owe it all to my wife.

This is a serious disease, don't take it lightly and don't get lax when you see improvement

fishing user avatarNCbassmaster4Life reply :

My input,

Camel back which holds about a gallon of water on your back all you have to do is suck on the tube.

Nuts and jerky hold lots of protein....and potassium which is the main ingredients for your body while you are burning calories by standing and or while the sun hits you. Soda is a no-no because if sodium and carbonation will dehydrate you fast.
