Thought this might be a neat idea. If anyone has any pics from back in the day when you were learning how to fish, post 'em up! This was taken by my father in 1978. That is my grandfather teaching me how to fish for sunfish and bluegills! You gotta start somewhere! This picture is hanging in our living room and is one of my most prized possesions. I am looking forward to taking a picture of my son with his grandfather at the same spot when he is old enough.
Matt,
That's a great idea! That pic sure takes me back, only it was my grandmother who took me to catch bluegills. My dad took me fishing, too, but my time with Grandmama was special. I know I have one of me when I was 8 somewhere around here. The problem is my dad and grandparents have all my childhood pics. I guess I should get some copies made sometime.
<>< Fisher
Funny you should mention it Fisher! Continue the tradition and take a kid fishing! That's me again, you can see my grandmother has her hand on my shoulder so I don't go in the drink! I was fortunate growing up to have family on both sides with summer houses on the water.
Matt, those pics are PRICELESS!! The black and wht makes them even better.
All my kid pics are at my parents house and there was one of me about 7 yrs old on opening day sitting streamside, wrapped in a grn army blanket with ice hanging from my line.
I really need to find that. I want it in black and white for my house after seeing Matts pics.
Great idea for a thread and great pics!!
My Senior Pic from high School. Not really youth but an old pic as it has been a few years. As I am sure you can tell by the photo on my tackle box, yip that is Bryan Kerchal. Funny thing is the only thing I now use that is in this pic is the T-shirt, still got little worn out but 10 year old shirts are susposed to be comfortable lol.
I have some better pics from when I was an actual kid not teenager I'll have to round'em up so I can show them off!
Those are some really cool pics. I've got one of me holding up this huge 5lber. My first bass. Caught her on a live nightcrawler. She was tasty too. First fish that I caught and ate. I didn't know any better. I was like 6 years old
I gotta see if I can find that pic.
This is one of the oldest pics that I have of me fishing
Here is one of my dad and his two brothers ( I love this pic)
Hmmm . . . . . I don't remember any pictures of me fishing in my youth. I must be the black sheep of my family.
I think I may have some pics of me fishing in my teen years, but they would be in my our family album and need to be scanned. I scanned these old pics of my dad because the were given to me a few years back by my mom and I don't want to lose them. The top one is a trout from the late 50's and is in my old backyard. The bottom one is from the year he died 1970 and I have no idea where it was taken.
That's what I'm talking about! Looks good guys!
Here's two more... the first is my great grandfather with a striper he caught in back of his cottage on the island of Jamestown in Rhode Island. The picture was taken on September 24th 1939. The fish weighed 39lbs and was 46" long. This was given to me by my grandfather (pic 1 at the top) before he died.
The second is an old pic of me from 1991, please let's not comment on the mullet..it was the 90's after all
These are some older pics of me and my kids. The bass in the picture was real thin and blind in one eye!

Wow Matt, your grandfather was fishing the same water in 1939 that I made a living on for about 7 years! Mackerel Cove, Beaver Tail, Cuttyhunk, all offer some of the finest Cow bass fishing RI has to offer. The currents that curl around Jamestown are awesome!
This is my grandfather that I never got to know. He passed away when I was 2. Somthing tells me we would have gotten along just fine!
circa 1952
Lake Vernon near Leesville Louisiana 1965, I'm the one next to the water, we were sight fish bass.
I gonna have to dig out some of the old pics I have. They are in color though. I'll post them tomorrow if I dont forget.
Sorry to say, I don't have any pics of myself fishing as a kid. My dad introduced me to fishing at five years old, but my mom always took the pictures and she never went fishing with us.
Falcon
This is really cool.
I don't have a scanner, but I'm enjoying your old photo's
Russ, you look just like your grandfather.
I got a kick out of the shoes he's wearing. Some guys are dapper dudes no matter what!!!
Great stuff.

What a great thread 8-)! Awesome pics of some awesome people!
Sorry to say I have none from way back then :-[. Don't even know if they had cameras back then ;D.
Dan
I was 6 or 7 in this picture. I still fish the pond in the backround. If you can see the camera in my Dad's hand, it is one of the old Super 8 cameras. Great video but no sound at all.
I found another few. I was 6 in the first 2 pictures, which were also taken at the same pond as the previous picture. I was around 12 in the last picture. First fishing I ever did off of a boat. I have since fished the lake many times and actually get to fish a tournament there this year.
Avid....I don't have a scanner either (well not actually true, just to lazy to get the all-in-one scanner/printer/coffee maker out and hook it up lol)
Take a picture of the picture with a digital camera
I am going to see tonight as well. if I have any of my photos....my parents may have all my little guy photos.
Man I remember now catching crawdads in the river when I was like 5 lol.
I know I have a good picture of me with a snoopy pole catching perch, but I think the folks have that one.
those are awesome pics..
Found another one! My friend Steve on the left, ah the 90's 8-)
Matt,
Those pictures are Mullet-tastic!

LOL, that's another topic altogether! Where I grew up in Rhode Island a man wasn't a man unless he had killer hockey hair. ;D
Great nostalgia thread...
Man you guys are so lucky to have a grandfather or a father, even a grandmother introducing you to fishing! I introduced myself at the age of 8, when i saw the rods in kmart. Then i found out my cousin was into fishing and here i am now. I don't have any pics... :'(
In my youth now. Everyone in my family fishes, I have a picture of when I was about 2 in my dad's lap fishing. Gotta find this picture its awesome.
My Brother
Bow3022- As long as you're here now, that's all that matters. I wonder how many people would be addicted if someone took them once. They could have a huge passion and not even know it.
Great pics everyone, super thread!!
great pics, now i got to remember to bring the camera when i teach my niece and nephew to fish
