Oh - and don't forget to set that parking brake.

I'm all for adding fish attracting cover - but this seems a little much . . . . .

fishing user avatarMDBowHunter reply :

I'm still wondering if he went fishing anyway, might as well what's done is done.

fishing user avatarCenCal fisher reply :

You can't post a thread like this and not give an explanation.

fishing user avatarMDBowHunter reply :

Its what happens when you jump out of the truck at the launch, but failed to put the truck in park and set the emergency brake.

fishing user avatarFish the Mitt reply :

It's because his wife checks the launch parking lot everyday after his work to see if he's there. He thought it best to just hide his truck...under water. Duh!

Most likely it was a steep ramp and the guy forgot to put the truck in park and put the emergency brake on, then when he got out to launch.....gravity took over.

fishing user avatarMDBowHunter reply :

Yea ramps are a little steep there, that launch is in the Chesapeake Bay right at the bridge. I see guys launching awful big fishing boats there

fishing user avatarCDMeyer reply :

Hahahahah poor guy was just excited to go fishing!!

fishing user avatarGundog reply :

I witnessed something like this first-hand at Lake Nockamixon between Philly and Allentown. The guy and his son backed the boat down the launch, the son got out to help guide his father. After a few failed attempts to get it right the father jumped out of the station wagon to see for himself what the problem was and the vehicle rolled back and into the water. Once the water got to the level of the drivers side door it was impossible to open.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

I have never seen that . I have seen the boat lying on the boat ramp .

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

Washing the truck?

fishing user avatarChance_Taker4 reply :

There is a body of water by me that the ramp is so steep that you must have 4 wheel drive to launch. We see this happen once a month there.

That's the first thing I thought.  I'm surprised someone didn't roll up & start flippin' a jig on it...

fishing user avatartstraub reply :

I saw a similar incident.  This guy forgot to unstrap the boat from the trailer and backed the boat into the water. Then he put the truck in park, set the brakes and jumped in the boat to back off the trailer.  He started the boat up put it in reverse and it would not back off the trailer.  So he guns it and started pulling the truck in the lake.  Once the boat got in deep enough water The trailer(still attached to the boat) was floating high enough in the water that it lifted the rear wheels of the truck off the ground by the hitch.  Then It really picked up speed because the parking break and transmission park only lock the rear wheels and they were clear off the ground.  So now the truck is sitting on the bottom of the lake and pulling the trailer and the boat that's still attached down with it.  Then the guy remembered where he went wrong and grabbed a knife from somewhere (maybe it was a pocket knife maybe it was in the boat I don't remember)  He did manage to cut the straps and save the boat.  What a mess.  It was both tragic and hilarious.  It was just and old non computerized truck I imagine that it survived with just fluid changes and a whole lot of cleaning and drying.

People are about to fill their pants to get on the water. Forget things.

fishing user avataravidone1 reply :

That's the new bass boat by Ford.  Notice the nice forward casting deck

fishing user avatarjlperkins reply :

Maybe he got out of the vehicle after engaging parking brake and didnt put it in park, after getting boat ready got back in vehicle, maybe this was a new to him vehicle, and he couldnt figure out how to release emergency brake, maybe I get out of boat to see what was going on, he is standing beside truck looking under dash for release, Maybe he taps emergency brake with hand and it releases, Gravity is your enemy at that point, Just Maybe

fishing user avatarS. Sass reply :

The one time someone taking to long on the ramp could be excused?

I thought I saw a Ford logo there wasn't sure though. Anytime I need a laugh I go watch Mustang videos and even some Corvette ones but it seems Mustangs are 2 to 1 on mistakes. Boy oh boy are there some good ones.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Looks like a round Nissan emblem to me. Grill isn't right to be a Ford either.

Never seen it in person, but I talked to a warden here once who told me about the big piles of rocks they build up at the very end of some of the reservoirs in KS. He said it was to stop vehicles from rolling too far out into the lake if someone didn't put the truck in park, "Idiot Catchers", he called them.

fishing user avatarWill Catchum reply :

Launching his submarine????  ?

fishing user avatarBassnChris reply :

I just say a little prayer for them.

And knock on wood for me :o

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

I have seen it once..............which kind of is low considering how many times a year I am at boat ramps.

I have no idea how or why it happened the time I saw it..........I was just pulling in, and saw 25 people staring in the water at the ramp. I then saw a dodge mini van in the water and a HUGE pontoon boat still hooked to a trailer...........our ramp is not that steep.........me thinks it was too much boat for the van and I am 100% sure idiocy was in play. I just blew my horn for people to get out of the way, and launched my boat off the bank. When i came back a few hours later the mess was gone.

Some of the other calamities I have seen that I remember over the years:

There was the time a fool was backing up going 100mph (or so it seemed), locked the breaks up the minute the trailer tires touched the ramp, and the boat flew into the water with a loud grating sound.............but it was still attached to the trailer, as he didn't unstrap it, and the ball on his hitch snapped clean off during the break spike.

Then there was the time I seen a guy back in, load the boat,I saw  and heard the trailer buckle, and then he pulled the trailer out on it's frame...........the axle and both tires completely gone.............but they were there when he backed in.

fishing user avatarflyingmonkie reply :

Man... that water has a nice color to it.

fishing user avatarS. Sass reply :

I was talking with a friend when he saw this post up on my screen. We got to bsing about it and watched about 3 or 4 YouTube videos of these failures one after another probably watched 50 or more of these kind of mistakes. We both noticed a common theme with them. (besides the stupidity) I bet over 2/3 of them were midsize or small vehicles. Kind of makes ya think, the margin for error is going to be higher. Less tire on the ground less weight to plant the tire on the ground and maybe other points as well. And although its not a scientific test they were just random video compilations of these incidents so I thought it did have some merit to it.

Oh it was later thought there were more Fords in the tank than any other brand as well. But that could be biased comment. :D
