I heard somewhere that tobacco was a repellent to fish. Any truth to this? It may explain a lot of skunked days for me. :'(
Yeah I've heard that too but I'm thinking: tobacco is addictive right? So lets all start chewing Skoal, spitting into the lakes and getting the fish addicted. Then we can dip our lures in the stuff and the fish will just go nuts over them. Where else can they get their addiction satisfied?
Now my GED is paying off!
Can't say I've ever seen a bass smoking
I mean from the standpoint that the smell is on my hands and thus ends up on the lure.
I smoke big stinky cigars while I fish. I do alright.
Of course the other explanation for me getting skunked is that I suck! I was hoping that someone could give me a built in excuse.
;D, I have a friend who chews, then spits on his baits when the bite is tough!
While I don't smoke (haven't had a cigarette in 14 years), I've fished with many a fisherman who chains smokes and they have no trouble putting quality Bass in the boat.
Personally, I don't think the Bass give a d**n one way or the other. Guys use WD-40, and now there is even coffee tubes being touted as the next hot fad.
The bottom line is put your lure in the right place, at the right time, and you'll hook up.

Probably is but so is anise.
I dont buy it, but who knows?
I dont belive this. I saw a small bass eat a small chunk of grizzly winter green. But the bass spit it out. The fish held it long enought that you could have set the hook if you were useing a bait.
Not catfish. I make stinky homemade cheese nuggets for cats. Chewing tobacco is one of the 'ingredients.' I stock-up every Spring with free tins at the Milwaukee Sports Show.
Tennessee bass like tobacco, beer, whisky and dancing girls,
but not necessarily in that order! :
8-)

I watched Festus on Gunsmoke do that one time. He caught a fish too. ;D

I agree. I don't think it matters at all.
Bass in ky prefer Marlboro. Atleast the ones I have caught do
CA bass like SENKOS. I don't think they smoke them though:o)
Tobacco is wacco, lol. I don't think bass want lung cancer.
I smoke close to a pack when im on the water, and dont have any problems. probly do better than my non smoking friends.
I DO know that crappie love disco...Thats right, disco
Pennsylvania Bass love POLKA
The bass here love Copenhagen. I always have to get a dip before the first cast of the day. I have been known to spit on a worm for luck.
i chew on the boat during tournaments sometimes, i try not too but it still happens. I'm AOY in my club for the past season and i earned a spot in the midatlantic divisonal at Kerr in VA this year. I dont think tobacco has anything to do with it at all.
