What's the best and worst fishing advice you've ever received?
My best was a friends suggestion to pick-up a copy of 'Fishing Facts' magazine (this was back in the 70's). That advice got me started on my bass fishing addiction.
I've gotten more than my share of bad advice from friends, family and other anglers. The worst was likely from a friend that cautioned me not to join BASS and fish their sanctioned tournaments in my area. "You'll loose your love of the sport and become too focused on catching." I'm not sure exactly what he meant by becoming too focused on catching, maybe that I'd miss out on the beauty of nature, or the up side of the solitude of being alone on the water. Either way, I'm glad I ignored him.
Worst advice - you don't need to wear a life jacket since you are fishing water that is shallow and you can just stand up.
Best advice - no matter how shallow you think it is, there is a fish there.
Worst advice was spend the money on good quality gear. Then spend the rest of your money getting more of it.
Worst advice: " topwaters will always catch larger bas than all other baits".Best advice: Learn how to fish a plastic worm.
Worst Advice ~ "Let the fish tell you what they want"

Worst, "Don't set hook until you see line movement!"
Best, "When in doubt, drop the rod, reel the slack, set the hook!"
Worst; wait until you retire to fish everyday.
Best; fish every day.

Not fishing related ...
I just saw this in the news regarding Monica Lewinsky
In July, she responded organizational psychologist Adam Grant’s Twitter callout for the worst career advice people have ever received. Her response: “an internship at the white house will be amazing on your resume,” followed by a blushing emoji.
Best fishing advise : if your gonna throw cranks get a lure retriever
Worst advise: if you dont see lightning you'll be ok
Best advice: Watching Hank Parker pull out his pocket rocket when he was snagged. Basically a 1-2 ounce weight on a swivel. Get hung up? Put it on your line, drop it down to your lure, shake a few times... Wallah! That small little trick that I could not believe I had never thought of has literally saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks Hank! ????
Worst advice: Always match the hatch...
Worst....wait for nice weather!!!
Best....Pause...look around...give thanks...cast.
Worst advice: "Try Seaguar Tatsu." <= just look what that has done for my wallet...
Best advice: "Don't put your fingers where you wouldn't put your face."
Best advice : Don't believe everything you read on on-line fishing and rod-building forums.
Worst advice: As above, if you don't see lightning, you'll be OK.
Best Advice: Don't leave fish to find fish.
Worst Advice: There is this website called tackleresource.
best advice - "go fishing"
better advice - "throw topwaters they are entertaining"
Worse advice . On a Texas rig use the lightest weight you can get away with . I do not apply by that rule .
Best advice . When you feel the slightest tap , reel down and set the hook .
Best: "Avoid the clap, Jimmy Duggan"
Worst: braid is the cure all. Like penicillin.
Best: fish your strengths. Work on your weaknesses.
Best Advice: Always have a jig tied on. Gerald G-Man Swindle
Hon. Mention: Trophy bass are more willing to bite around the new moon and full moon. I read this once in a list of statistics compiled from a survey on certified trophy bass catches. My last 2 PBs were caught around the new moon.
Hon Mention 2: Get out early. Don't oversleep. My last two PBs have also come around sunrise.
Worst Advice: Check the solunar tables before planning a trip.
Worst advice: Switch up lures every 15 minutes, only fish mornings and evenings. Trust Lunar calendars.
Best advice: Fish right after rain showers, hop jigs like texas rigs, set the hook the second you feel something tap your line.
Best Advice: "Give the Ned Rig a try"
Worst Advice: "Never use a FC leader with braid"

Yep! On both fronts
Best: Start with aggressive tactics, then temper back from there if necessary.
Worst: Wind out of the west, fish bite the best. ????
