G Loomis Poseurs 2024

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

I don't get these guys, I see them everywhere. If I'm at a lake, some dudes wearing a Loomis hat fishing 2 different Abu rods, Go into a sports shop, some dudes wearing a Loomis hat looking at dobyns or lamaglas rods. I see a truck with a huge Loomis logo on it and the guy pulls out shakesphere or okuma combos...

Roughly I see more people sporting Loomis apparel then actually using something from them to fish. Am I missing something? Is it to make them look cooler than everyone else?

fishing user avatarChrisAW reply :

Not many people know that their logo is a Loomis logo, they just like it. Why do you care what someone else wheres? Its not like being part of a country club or something and you can only where those if you own one.

Well, you might want to stay inside then. Theres LOTS of that going around these days.

fishing user avatarjkarol24 reply :

Cheaper to buy the hat and sticker than buy one of their rods

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

So what you are saying is that I shouldn't wear my Mercury shirt when fishing from my kayak. ;)

fishing user avatarQUAKEnSHAKE reply :

Guess I cant wear my OU hat/shirt any longer I never played football there. Thing is I was fishing today with my new JM Carbonlite reel Smoke rod while wearing a Team St Croix t-shirt. What people wouldnt know is at home I have 4 St Croix rods.

I do "see" though where you're coming from once you take notice of something like that it sticks out. Like when you buy a blue whatever truck you take notice of all the other blue whatever trucks.

You guys are missing the point, there's never a Loomis rod around them. At least you guys own the product or went to a school. If theses guys are so big into the product don't ya think you actually see them using one at least one time, cause I don't and I run into them a lot

It's a bit funny since the Loomis stereotype only uses Loomis rods and looks at everything else as severely below them, then see the exact opposite when your out on the water :tongue8:

No.

fishing user avatarK_Mac reply :

I don't own any Loomis rods. I have used many of them, and at the IMX/GLX/NRX levels they are fine rods; they just don't fit my budget. With that said, I would wear the hat, t-shirt, or affix a Loomis sticker without giving it a second thought. I would wear a Porsche or Maserati hat or t-shirt if I had one, and I ain't likely to ever even drive one of those...if that makes me a poser then so be it. FWIW I fish with several guys who fish a variety of great tackle including Loomis rods, and not one of them look down on my BPS gear. We catch fish and have a great time doing it. Buy what you can afford; wear what you want; life is too short to worry about the little stuff...

My dad has Loomis hats, t-shirts, and all kinds of stickers he bought. Why? He thought the fish skeleton thing was really cool. He didn't know it was Loomis, atleast until I told him.

Im sure alot of other average anglers are the same way. Not everybody is fishing junky like us and knows every cool logo in the fishing industry, and knows about our posses.

Why? because I'm pointing something I see a lot of when I'm out fishing or doing something related.. it's an observation I'm sharing, there's no bashing hence I'm not alone out here, geez.

You ask why. Allow me to explain it to you in a respectful, polite way. Your "observations" seem particularly judgmental considering that you appear to know none of these guys you speak of. You are judging them by what they are wearing, and that it doesn't match what they a using. It seems very narrow-minded and projects a caustic attitude. You shouldn't be surprised by all the negative responses. Usually when a thread takes on an argumentative tone, it's "good night Irene".

fishing user avatarBassn Blvd reply :

Ok, time for my worthless two cent. I was at Gander Mtn the other day buying some soft plastics and started checking out the St. Croix, Abu and Quantum rods. I held a couple different models just to see how they felt, but guess what? I fish Loomis rods exclusively. I have one Loomis long sleeve t-shirt I wear in the winter (most comfortable t-shirt) and have a Loomis sticker on my boat. Just because I'm a Loomis fan doesn't mean I don't like checking out other brands.

Put it like this. Just because she wears a ring on her finger doesn't mean she's married. OR just because it's worn like a diamond doesn't mean it isn't a QZ.

Also, here is something I didn't know until yesterday. I'm not sure if it applies to all teams but did you know that when the NY Yankees play the Boston Red Sox in Boston, that the bat boy for the Yankees is NOT a Yankees fan. The bat boy is supplied to the Yankees from the Red Sox and has to wear the Yankees uniform. HMMMM, who woulda thought a why a guy wearing a Yankees uniform would be a Red Sox fan.

Be carefull stereotyping, it can make you narrow minded.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

Why do people wear Nike shirts while wearing Adidas shoes? Maybe they just like the shirt.

Does that make them a poser, or somebody who just likes logos and what they represent?

I know them well enough to see them fish since I'm out on the water more than anyone else in this area. I see them, I know how they fish, what gear they wear, what style they fish, and where they fish. This is more than just bumping into one guy somewhere and making an assumption or judging after one occurrence. I see it a lot, like I mentioned. If they own a Loomis rod then they are just collecting them. I figured since this is big in my area I would think others would post something similar if it's everywhere else too, not to have you tear my post apart and think

I'm hating people. That's how threads close.

One of the biggest trends of last year was wearing Tap Out clothing, darn well 99% of the people wearing them don't dabble in the martial arts. Yeah I get it, It's cool looking, they like it. But I see fishing having more of a pride in what you do, how you act and perceive yourself out on the water, would think you supported what you used and one of those ways is advertizing. If you like an item you buy apparel to show you like it, most importantly to the manufacturer is they are getting free advertizing. When I see a logo anywhere I also see the 2nd message which is advertizing, we all know how it works, more ads = more customers, in another sense you don't see sponsors allowing the anglers wearing their competition since it wouldn't make sense.

So since my run ins with people wearing Loomis clothing, I should base my analysis that Loomis has cool clothes and not cool gear. Get it?

I would agree with what you say, but you own Loomis rods and use them exclusively, you didn't buy the other rods you were just checking them out, but really though you're not buying a shirt that says "Ugly Stik" on it.

Everything has a stereotype in this world, like it or not, agree to disagree they are out there  I'm a quarter Polish, so you know why I don't own a submarine :laugh5:

Well if you own both you can't be a poseur, now if you knew someone who touted nike all day and you always say him wearing champion that'd be different.

To me, for example: I like rage tails, I would like them to be around so I keep buying their stuff, now would I buy their closest competitors shirt that I don't use and show everyone that? Doesn't make sense that I would then.

No but this topic can turn ugly real fast....

I really don't care who wears what.....I'm in agreement with just about everything Glenn said in here so far.

Maybe they needed a fishing hat to keep the sun out

Maybe they just like the hat

Maybe they found it on sale

Maybe they wanted to show they love fishing and Wearing Loomis is one good way to show it(even if they don't have any loomis)

Maybe somebody gave it to them as a gift

The list could be endless

I have a few reebox and Nike shirts.....I don't own a single pair of either of them. If that makes me a poser so be it.....really couldn't give a dang.People should worry more about themselves and less of everybody else.

My two cents...and the value is dropping fast....LOL

fishing user avatarWookieeJedi reply :

I got a free Loomis hat at the Classic Expo. I haven't worn it yet, but if it means I gotta buy one of those rods, then forget it. I got a free Yamaha t-shirt at the weigh-in, and I like to wear it fishing out of the kayak. That way, I really do have a Yamaha motor.

The hat I really want is one to match my Ted Williams baitcaster that I still fish with.

fishing user avatarGOOCHY reply :

I think the OP is butthurt because he saw a guy wearing a Loomis shirt fishing a Shakespeare rod and outfishing him. Lookin' good, using cheap gear, and outfishing the OP? It pushed him over the edge into the abyss.

fishing user avatarTourPT reply :

Where is it written that someone of who likes and uses Loomis rods can't use other gear? I don't own one St. Croix rod however my buddy bought two of there rods a few months back and got two free sweatshirts and gave me one. It's a nice sweat shirt but from what you’re saying, since I fish Loomis mostly I should not wear the sweatshirt he gave me. LOL

Also of note, I am a Loomis fan however I don’t care for there frog rods so I guess I better either stop frog fishing or waste my money and force myself to fish with a Loomis frog rod for lord knows us Loomis fans are not allowed to use other brands. LOL

fishing user avatarJohn G reply :

I was wearing a Stihl camo hat this morning but I was using an Echo backpack blower. LOL

Their rods may be overpriced but I like the way they, look, feel and fish and I I figure that I am on this Earth just a very short while so I might as well be happy with my rods while I am here.

fishing user avatarAlpster reply :

When the New "Super WalMart" opened in my town and the little dinky Walmart moved all their stuff to the new store they tried to sell everything they didn't want to move. They had a rack of Ranger, Gamakastsu, and Rapala baseball caps that were usually $8 bucks apiece marked down to 50 cents. I bought all they had as I go through them pretty fast. I have fished in a couple of Ranger boats, but I can't afford to own one. I wear the hats proudly. Not a poser, just love them free hats. FWIW I have a half dozen G. Loomis rods, but no hats or stickers. I must be doing it wrong. Oh well.....

Ronnie

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I think the skeleton fish and the "Fear no Fish" slogan is cool. I don't own and Loomis rods, can't afford to since I only fish for fun, but I would wear one of their shirts. I could get what you're saying if someone has hats, stickers, jerseys, shirts, says how much they love Loomis rods, but fishes a different brand. Otherwise it's their money and if they want to wear Loomis gear that's their call. I like fishing gear, including clothes and decals, even brands I don't use. It's supporting our sport in general, so I'm for it.

fishing user avatarNorcalBassin reply :

Doesn't bother me to see the shirts, hats, and stickers on non-users despite personally having a few Loomis rods of my own (and a sticker on my truck!). However, I do judge myself a little more harshly and recently decided to keep my DX 743 so I could still wear my Dobyns shirt that I really like (seriously, no joke... was thinking of selling it to help pay for another NRX).

fishing user avatarFishing Rhino reply :

I guess I'm the opposite. I don't wear advertising, except for the Rage Tail hat I got from Big O at the Pickwick Road Trip. I do fish his products. I don't wear it because I got it free. I wear it because I respect the man, and not just his willingness to get down on our level, but that he actually enjoys getting down and dirty with the weekend warriors and recreational fishermen.

Other than that, I don't advertise for anyone. A lot of folks buy particular brands of clothing with the brand boldly embroidered, silk screened or by any other method plastered all over them. I don't let dealers put their stickers on my vehicles. The exception being when they provide good service and go out of their way to accomodate me, I will let them put license plate frames with their name on my vehicle.

I'm not into decals on my vehicle proclaiming I've been to DisneyWorld, the Grand Canyon, or any other notable tourist destination. But that's me. Some folks wear clothing to impress others whether or not they actually use the products. I don't care if someone wears Steez apparel and fishes with a Popeil Pocket fisherman. If they are posers, it's their problem. I couldn't give a hoot about them seeking status through clothing.

I have bigger fish to fry, scratch fry, change to catch. All I expect from others is some common courtesy while fishing. Maybe the closest some of these "posers" will get to a Loomis, or a Steez, or whatever, is an article of clothing bearing their name or logo. If it makes them happy, how does it hurt anyone?

Hey Glenn, regarding the Nike swoosh, and wearing another brand of athletic shoes, maybe they play Nike golf balls, and/or Nike golf clubs. Nike is not your father's Nike any more. (stolen from Oldsmobile)

Only thing I'm surprised about is that Loomis clothing is trendy in fishing. Sorry but the truth is still there, that a logo also holds the meaning of advertizing. I'm not like the rest of mainstream america where I offend easily, seems like you're the biggest person taking offense in here.

I didn't think there would be some people that grumble over a simple conversation.
