Hey i havent tried it but i heard it was really good for bass
You mean using hot dogs to fish with? Are you serious about this? I've used 'em to catch catfish, but I've never heard anything about catching bass on them! That's some crazy s#@$. Let me know if you hear anything else about this. I'ts got me really curious........
ive caught a bass off of a hotdog when i was fishing for bluegill, but that was just a fluke.
Like dustin,I've caught cats on them but for bassin', I just use them as dinner. ;D
You're kidding rite? It sounds like you need to concider your source. They might be pulling your leg.
They are great for Cats...but for Bass, never heard that.
I never tried it but they might work good for flipping.lol ;D
Hmm....
So do the bun length hotdogs work better? Next thing you know, there will be an arguement over whether the cheese filled ones produce more bass than the standard ones.

sure...when the bite is tough, just add some condiments...ketchup, mustard, relish. If your fishing down south, I hear the hot sauce works well. ;D
Put it on a T-rig, and I am sure that it will produce something. Why not? ;D
I'll try anything once. Now where are those Ballparks...... I hope I have a hook big enough..... Hey I could use this flavor injector and my special sauce. Now I have bait and lunch covered.
I would think cheesedogs would be the best.... "When fish bite, they get an irresistable squirt of processed cheesewiz and won't let go!!!"....ahhh, I can see the ad's now...
Yeah, but how do you fish hot dogs? Is it like using a weightless senko, or do you fish it more like a crankbait. Maybe if I try a twitch, twitch, pause, I could fish it like a Zara Spook.
Never heard of using hot dogs for bass. I'm sure I could get a gar to bite on one though.
Well i know my resource was true because i was there and i was catchin bass on some grub tails and My buddy is a huge bait guy and he put on some hotdogs and caught some nice size bass one was 7-pounds
but im not realy in to using stuff like that, but how he wood rig them up a bobber number 5 sinker splitshot number 4 hook and just cut a piece of and cast it out there ;D
Either those bass are a) hungry stupid or c) a mixture of both.
Unless he added some type of attractant, like MegaStrike, or Spike It, or something like that, I see no reason why a bass would hit a slice of a hotdog.
??? ??? ???
I put a drop line out once for catfish with a hotdog on the end of it, and it wasn't 1 min. after I dropped it into the water that a bass nailed it.
I too have no reason why a bass would hit it, but from my experience a bass with hit some crazy things.
Rig it wacky style, just like a senko, hey let's see how much does a pack of hotdogs cost? Might be cheaper then a bag of Senkos. Durability probably the same. Don't know about the fall rate though. Raul we might need you on this one. Or RW.
Hey Kbj3579, I don't know about the wacky style rig with a hot dog. I think the first time you twitched it, it would just fall off the hook. Funny concept though, isn't it? I think if you rigged it like a super fluke, with a Gammy EWG, and maybe some relish, and fished it like a soft jerk bait, maybe that would produce some results. Wow, folks, I can't believe we're talking about fishing with hot dogs and ketchup to catch bass. Keep the posts coming, though, they crack me up!
So why didnt you just say that in your origional post ....instead of saying you "heard". ???QuoteWell i know my resource was true because i was there
Word.
Sorry im not really on one today
Ok, here is food for thought on why a bass will eat a hot dog. If i would have told you 40 years ago to put a pice of PORK on a jig and bass would eat it, you would have told me i am out of my mind. What dose a hot dog and pork that we use today have in common? Amino Acids! I have seen big bass caught on hot dogs in the local ponds and have caught some in the local lakes when fishing for catfish. I was like most of you at first, why the hell would a bass eat a hot dog? For a bass to grow large and healthy it needs amino acids, thats why the pray on crayfish, bluegils, other bass ect. A bass can't live on shad alone. Thats the conclusion that makes the most sence to me.
No, But I have used something we call Ring Bologna
for panfish when I would take my children out fishing. I'd cut the meat up into small squares.
It works.

You caught a fluke too ??? : :-X ;D ;D ;D
If you want to fish with food, try a licorice stick. A closely related flavor, anise, was the most popular addition to fishing lures before garlic. Then of course in the 1970's there were the jelly worms sold in fruit flavors. And also in the later 70's was the Action worm that smelled of cinnamon.
Of course, hot dogs would be illegal in a tournament and most of us prefer not to use anything that wouldn't be tournament legal.
You can't use natural baits except for pork trailers but are Hot Dogs really natural with all the preservatives and chemicals I wonder heck the color isn't even natural. LOL!!!

the flw finnesse worms, the straight tailed ones taste and smell like gummy worms. its crazy

Um, you sure that you aren't crazy for actually knowing what the worms TASTE like? :-/ Smelling, I can understand, but TASTING? ;D That adds a whole new dimension to "catching a fisherman". ;D ;D
I believe that it is the Renegade 6 in. twirl tail worms, that can be found at Wal-Mart that smell wonderfully, and they catch fish also. I haven't bought any in a while, but I would like to know what exactly the smell is that is added. ??? ???
After reading this thread, the wife got curious. To add insult to injury, she even used the cheese-filled variety of hot dogs. And guess what?
She caught a bass!
Wow! Hot Dogs for Bass I wonder if condiments will help as an attractant. LOL!!!!

Another food that catches fish is Gummy Worms, seriously i have weightless rigged them before and caught bass.
If they are dumb enough to hit a stick with hooks they should be dumb enough to hit a hotdog. Liver works too.
Renegade worms smell like grape jelly. That crap they put on Tiki Stix makes me want to heave. It's a good thing the fish in my arear don't like 'em either. I HATE the way the smell.
i have caught a couple bass on hot dogs lol i had to try it after i saw this forum and it surprisely worked
i have used hotdogs before. You dont use a whole dog, just a little slice. You rig it under a bobber. It works wonders on bluegill, but you will catch a few bass. My friend caught a 5+ ponder on a hotdog trying to catch bluegill. Up here, thats a monster.
And so it comes to this. You know, I didn't want to say anything, but I have tried some weird stuff for bass, too. Gummy worms, hot dogs, and even roots from a plant! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one out there. Well, good luck with the Oscar Mayers, boys! And like I said earlier, keep them posts coming! They brighten my day!
I have also used tree roots before, and get this, they caught fish! Not any bass, though, just bluegill. I was gill fishing from a pond shore, ran out of worms, and just grabbed a root that looked wormy. Caught lots of fish and didnt have to re bait the hook.
Bluegill are stupid lol,ive caught them using a gold hook with no bait, tinfoil, and even on tabs off of beer cans.
hot dogs and saurkraut(sp) are good. mmmmm! dinner time!
<~~~~caught a gill on a cigarette butt ...i was like 12. and lots on hot dog pieces lol

i have never tried it with hotdogs but i have caught bluegills on bratwaurst! fun and cheap bait!!!!
Quoteive caught a bass off of a hotdog when i was fishing for bluegill, but that was just a fluke.
I thought you said it was a bass?
Fishing for bass with hot dogs, creative, but no. I was fishing once with limited supplys and caught a nice bass on a piece of a tore up brush hog rigged wacky style. I am pretty sure that you can get a fish to hit almost anything. The gummy worm idea might be somthing to try. They are a lot cheaper than senkos and might be affective. Id probably eat them all my self though. :
Never caught a bass on hotdogs. I have though caught millions of bluegill on them.
I've heard of this! Haven't tried it yet. One of my good friends invites me to a farm pond one of his relatives has. His cousin's daughters use hot dogs and Brauts (?spelling?) all the time. They've pulled bass out of that pond in the 25-27 inch range on these meaty offerings rigging them "wacky rigged"! My biggest out of that pond is a 5 1/2 pounder on a spinnerbait. Guess I need to take some dogs with me the next time I get the invite! LOL!
