what is the biggest bass you guys have ever caught in a pond? And what did you catch it on? Now i'm not trying to wax my own car or anything but i caught a 13 incher that weighed a pound and a half in an overworked overpressured pond it was the biggest fish of my life. so how about you guys? Mine was caught on my own little modified spinnerbait. it was a bright yellow Miniking head with a black and silver Stanley Wedge skirt. Oh and the blade was a colorado. you guys don't have to be as specific as i was lol

8 lbs. 6 oz. from a pond that is a little over 3/4 of 1 acre in size. Came on a red/black Kinami Lure Co. Norie's Bug, fished on a 2/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook, with a 3/16 oz. bullet weight. It was fished on a T-rig, and I was swimming the lure over a hydrilla bed, and she came up and nailed it.

I've caught four 10lb bass, one on a public pond, two on a private pond and one on big water. All were caught on a six inch Senko. I catch lots of big bass on a variety of ponds probably because they are much easier to fish than big water. The biggest challenge we face is finding fish, bass are pretty easy to catch once you find them. Ponds narrow the search. The main consideration in catching big bass on small water is determining if there are actually any large fish in that water. You can't catch 'em if they ain't there!

I have caught 6 LM bass over 3lbs in the past 3 months on a pond that is about an acre in size. It is amazing that that little body of water can support that many large predators. And no, I am not catching the same bass over and over again because I have been clipping a fin on the big ones.

I caught them mostly on watermelon 6" Senko and Big Ikas. I have managed a few on Bass Assasains. They seem to leard quickly because they are starting to pass on the Senkos when offered now. I can see them eyeballing it when they used to just slam it without a thought. Imprinting?

It's a pond in a public park but nobody hardly ever fishes it because they don't think there could be anything big in it from it's size. I love watching a little tyke shore fishing for stunted bluegill with a Snoopy pole and a worm lay into a big ole bass. What a riot.

7 1/2 lbs on a minnow... smallest pond I ever seen, and the biggest bass I ever seen come out of such a small pond!

Those are some good looking bass. Was that second bass on a bed, or was it just that little with that big ole head? That usually means that the fish are malnourished.

I have caught bass that were 3-4 lbs, with the head of a 8-9 lbs. bass.

The first one was a male moving up on the beds. The second one was a female that had just spawned out about a week to two weeks prior. I have a feeling that the last one may have been the same fish that is in the second pic.

I had been stalkling the bass in the second pic since the first time I saw her at the begining of March. Took almost three monthes to get her on my thumb.

BTW, Does your pond produce big fish fairly consistantly? Do you know when it was built or when it was stocked? Just curious as to about how old these fish are.

I have caught 3#, 4# and 5#'ers from my test pond this year. It is about 1 1/2 acres and is presently a part of a city park, but was orignally (not sure how many years ago) a farm pond used to water cattle. Eventually, it was turned into a pay lake for kids (and even had a little train that went around it, like at the zoo). The city eventually swallowed up the farm and the land was turned into a city park when a housing development engulfed it. There is a golf course on the other side of the street, with a water hazard that is about 1/2 as big and it feeds into the pond during heavy rains. The state Game and Parks stocked it several years ago with blue gill, crappie and catfish, but the bass have been there since before the city owned it. Lots of neighbor kids fish for blue gill and crappie in the spring and nobody monitors their catch, so they get pretty depleted by the time summer rolls around.

My biggest one from this pond was a 5.91#er (based on the fish weight calculator from this site) caught this year. I decided to throw a crank bait and crash it into the weeds, since nobody else was fishing this way and he hit the crank but didn't hook up. I had a Zoom vibra worm rigged on another rod and threw back when he came off and he hit it. I had less than 10' of line out and he nearly ripped my arm off.

My biggest was a 5lber caught on a chartreuse roostertail ran along the edge of some moss in a private pond. Its about an acre in size I guess, shaped like an egg..I was fishing the narrow end.

Here's some of my bigger ones I've caught on the 7 acre lake I live in:

4.7 lb. caught on a green pumpkin/chartruse tail senko

5.9 lb. caught on a muskie sized black jitterbug

6.4 lb. caught on green pumpkin ghost bait split tail.

R/W, this pond has been here for some 25 years that I know of. I know alot of the folks that have lived here longer than I have talk of the good ol' days when you could catch 8+ pounders pretty regularly.

I know of at least three other fish over five that have been pulled from the shallows just shortly after the spawn. The neighbor's boy would come out everytime that I landed one of these monsters to have a look see, and asked what I caught them on. He took two of the five plus and I think his buddy took the third. They were using the floating lizard. There were also a few fish around four took a few weeks past, but I never saw them just heard of them.

As far as stocking, the pond is now pretty much self sustaining. I normally would not like crappy in a pond this size, but they seem to be a major food source for the larger behomth bass in this one. Luckily there is also a high population of bream and bluegill here as well. The smaller bass have a fair chance to eat as well. When ever this pond was made, there was little public knowledge of proper pond maintenace, and fisherman just brought their catches back and threw them in the pond to catch later.

The only fish that I would like to see be introduced here would be maybe 20-30 adolescent grass carp to eat the growth that is taking over in all but the deepest spots. Of course I probaly would not mind a catfish or two either.

As with every pond or lake this one also has the ever elusive monster that everyone has seen but never caught. Just taking a guess, I would have to say that "Granny" would have to go at least 12lbs. You can always tell when she feeds in the shallows, because it looks like a mud bomb was detonated. I have seen her feed once and it was the cooloest I have ever seen. She took a Red Shoulder Black Bird in flight as it went from on grass hump to the next.

2 acre pond with 2/3 of the pond 4 feet deep and the other 1/3 being 6-8 feet deep caught 9lb largemouth on a mepps minnow(comet) #3 silver blade.

still to this day i fish a ton of coal pits that are 1/2-3/4 miles long, huge 3-80 acre ponds etc... and regularly only catch 1/2-2lb fish but will catch a ton of em...amazingly a 1/2 acre 2-6 foot deep pond near my house that never gets fished because its a heck of a walk in thick woods for a small body of water that looks like it nearly dries up every summer has a ton of 4-6 pounders. I can sit there and catch 15 of em(probably the same ones a few times) for about a hou on anything...

Ernel, sounds like the genetics are certainly there, maybe the pond needs a little protection or perhaps a bit of managment to get it back.

My biggest in a pond was this one. Saw her under a log at first but eventually caught her in the pads on a topwater. j/k,lol

I have to say that my biggest bass from a pond was only about 2lbs. I have seen a 3lber caught in one of the ponds that I fish, but haven't hooked one yet. I nead to find a pond that produces bigger fish.

I fish a private 2-3 acre pond behind my house. That pond is loaded with fish! It is rarely fished, but my neighbor and i both caught 6 pounders out of it, and some reports of bigger ones. In fact, a bass broke somebody's rod! Thats crazy since these are northern fish! I might be able to get a pic of my 6 pounder up later.

I caught a 7lber and threw him back. its important to throw big fish back. keep a small one before you keep a big one. they are the more healthier fish and give off better spawn.

I ate him because when i caught him i knew it was inevitable that the lake was gonna dry up.(Had a bad drought in 97-'99)

I fish a private pond that could fit between the 50 yard line and the end zone of a football field. This pond was stock about 3 and half years ago with LM, it had a large population of bluegill/bream that had no size to them, now the bluegill /bream are large to say the least. This summer I have landed a 7+ pounder off live bait and a 5+ pounder off a Berkely 6" Cherry seed colored lizard. Both within 5' of the shore line out of a downed tree. In the 2-3lb range maybe 5 - 10 bass, not sure on the 2lb and under, but its been alot. This is one pond that I love to fish and plan to insure the bass stay large and well fed.

In a pound was about 3lb Largemouth bass but in reserviors lots of 5+lb Largemouth bass. Got to love those old reserviors,rivers,lakes and ponds.

Last summer I caught a 19 inch bass in a 1-1/2 acre pond. I was fishing from shore with light line, and had to walk in the water to land it! It had wrapped up in bullrushes. This pond is sadly shrinking, due to the watersource being changed.

I've caught 4 all around the 5 1/2 lb. mark in my little pond. Caught 2 on a frog, 1 on a jig, and 1 on a 7.5 in. worm.

My wife and I fish a 3-4 acre pond behind my parent's house quite often and we've pulled some decent sized bass, considering the pond's only about 3 years old. At first, we didn't have a tape or scale...which of course is when some of the biggest ones were caught. But since we've started measuring, the largest to date was about 4 lbs and 21.5 inches.

My dad has caught some big ones too, in the 6 lb range. Next year there should be some really nice bass fishing at this little water hole!

My biggest pond bass was a 5.5 pounder I caught earlier this year. Caught her in the post spawn on a picasso spinnerbait. Sure wish I could have landed her during the prespawn!

3.74lb on a live target swim bait. I have also caught several 3 pounders with a b&b jig and blue laminate rage craw. I don’t have a boat so for me pond fishing is my favorite thing to do.

Caught this one a few years ago on a pond at the family farm. My uncle has been managing it for over 30 years. I’m extremely lucky that I have a place like this to fish.
