Fishing magazines 2024

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

I'm looking to subscribe to a fishing magazine, but I don't know which one to subscribe to. I want one that has product reviews, articles about different techniques, and so on. (I don't want one with tournament info because I don't care about pro fishing)

Any suggestions?

PS, I'm looking for a monthly magazine (at least)

fishing user avatarsenko_77 reply :

bassin magazine and gary yamamoto's inside line are two great fishing magazines with great articles on tips and techniques with fewer advertisements than bassmaster magazine

fishing user avatarRattlinrogue reply :

Bassin',Bassmaster, and Bass Times are mags that I subscribe to,and each one has plenty of how to(especially Bassin' and Bassmaster).I also get FLW Outdoors(Bass edition), and it also has some pretty good how to articles.I'd go with Bassin' or Bassmaster if I only got one subscription.

fishing user avatartipptruck1 reply :

Well I have to agree with the bassin and bassmaster magazines. But one thats really good is to get in-fisherman. You just have to look for the bass articles.

fishing user avatarLandinlunkers reply :

Bassmaster

fishing user avatarValascus reply :

I prefer Bassin'. I think Bassmaster is starting to go a little overboard with their advertisments. When I start seeing "news stories" about the "banned" baits, I start getting a little annoyed. I don't think I have ever seen that in Bassin', but I could be wrong.

fishing user avatartbird reply :

I only subscribe to Bassmaster ,you may be suprised at what you learn by reading some of the tournament articles.

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

I think Bassmaster has gone downhill as a learning tool.  In-Fisherman is about a good a learning tool as their is but you have to dig for the bass articles unfortunately.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Bassin is excellent.  I strongly suggest if you get only one magazine it be Bassin.

Bassmaster is OK with some good tips.

FLW's magazine, FLW Outdoors, is not all that good.  Example:  This last issue's cover yelled out loud in big letters that the FLW champion was going to give us his tips.  So what were his tips?  "Don't give up." A false cover ad if there was ever one.  Last on my list of suggested publications.

Bass Times is very good.  Great articles and tips.  Couple Bass Times with Bassin and you have two excellent bass fishing publications.

In-Fisherman is OK but it deals with other than bass fishing.

There are some excellent books available that you may enjoy reading.  Bass Wisdom by Homer Circle is outstanding and The Bass Anglers Almanac is also excellent.

Both are easy to read and they are loaded with a lot of tips and information to help you become a stronger fisherman.

fishing user avatarvaparrothead reply :

I've been subscribing to In-Fisherman for about 5 years.  It seems to have all the articles you're asking for and I strongly recommend it.  They do have articles about ALL types of freshwater fishing not just bass.

fishing user avatarNew Bass Man reply :

Another plug for Bassin.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

#1 Inside Line   This would be my pick if I were subscribing to just one magazine.

#2 In-Fisherman  Yes, it does cover other species and I fish for them, too!

When my subscription runs out, I don't know whether or not I will renew Bassmaster. I find that there is usually one article every month or two that is outstanding and only two or three a year that are really special. I enjoy "A Day On the Lake", but I'm not sure that piece makes the magazine worthwhile.

fishing user avatarMALTESE FALCON reply :

I GET "BASSIN" AND "BASSMASTER". IF I WERE TO PICK JUST ONE IT WOULD BE "BASSIN".

fishing user avatarMALTESE FALCON reply :

THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH "BASSIN" IS IT ISN'T A MONTHLY PUBLICATION.

fishing user avatarNJfishinGuy reply :

how many magazines do you get a year with bassin, i cant find it on there website.

fishing user avatarZebco202 reply :

I don't subscribe to any, i just pick them up while i'm in the bookstore.

I prefer Bassin and if I was going to subcribe to one it would probably be Bassin.  I think it's also cheaper than Bassmater as well.

If I'm not mistaken I think Bassin' publishes 10 times a year.  I'm not sure about that though.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

ok, thanks for all the help fellas

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I used to get 3

In-Fisherman  Since Al Linder sold it it went way down You would do better buying old copies if you can find them

Bassmaster and NAFC  I cancelled both a long while ago They have become Merchandising Scams disguised as fishing magazines

I p/u a copy of Bassin that seems to be good but with school now I gotta lay off outside reading for a while

There are many books and the Videos by Glen Lau did me the best!

Actually since i got here and on the forums WHAT MORE IFO could I ever use

Also DONT FOGET TO CHECK THE ARTICLES SECTION HERE  its Excellent ;)

fishing user avatarCraw reply :

In Fisherman and Bassin get my vote. I haven't seen Gary Yamamoto's mag. yet but I need to check it out. If it's half as good as the baits he sells then it's a winner.

fishing user avatarHula Popper reply :

I like In Fisherman, Bassmaster, and Field and Stream are my favorites.

fishing user avatarRattletrap reply :

Ya got to love Bassin Magazine.  :)

fishing user avatarBassKing813 reply :

Bassmaster is by far the BEST bass fishing magazine out there in my opinion. It's the only one I'll read.

fishing user avatarNorm reply :

I picked up a copy of Bassin the other day and have enjoyed it.  I also enjoy the Crappie magazine put out by the same publisher a couple of months ago.

fishing user avatarNate reply :

Bassin' and North American Fishing Club. NAFC has many different species in it too.

fishing user avatarPa Angler reply :

I get Bassmaster, Bass Times, Bassin, North American Fisherman, In-Fisherman, In-Fisherman's Walleye insider and PA Game & Fish. I will soon subscribe to In-Fisherman's Bass magazine. All the above are great magazines. Do stay away from Bass Insider not worth the money they now charge for what was free in the past ESPN'S way extracting money from us.

fishing user avatarvaparrothead reply :

If you want to get info on strictly bass fishing plus alot of info on tournments then BassMaster mag is the one for you.  If you want more general freshwater fishing info (bass, catfish, bream, etc) then In Fisherman.

fishing user avatarBASS fisherman reply :

I would suggest In fisherman.  If you decide to subscribe, goto the In fisherman website, and you can get a 1 year sub. for $12.00.  And they will send you adds were you can order some of their books.  I have 1 called Largemouth Bass, The In-Fisherman book of Stratagies.  It is a very good, and detailed book.  Even a top pro could learn stuff from reading their books.

fishing user avatarSPEEDBEAD. reply :

I like bassmaster, and if you want something more than a monthly publication...there is plenty of info on this site to keep you reading for a while.

fishing user avatarRandySBreth reply :

The one or two bass articles in one issue of In-Fisherman is generally better than a whole issue of say, Bassmaster.

The new bass edition of FLW is pretty good, Al Linder is on board, you might check it out muddy man.

fishing user avatarCajun Caster reply :

When my subscription to Bass Times expires, I will not renew it. I'm sick and tired of reading the editor Matt Vincent injecting his politics into everything he writes. He no doubt is a puppet of ESPN but he can still make points without his subtle, and sometimes blatant remarks. I subscribe to a fishing magazine for fishing information, not some fool's agenda-based political opinions.

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

I've been getting In-Fisherman for for at least 20 years. It's still the best in my opinion. Been getting Bassin' for about ten years, and will keep doing so. I screwed up and subscribed to Bassmaster after about a five year layoff. A friend of mine told me that it was better than it used to be. BS. If anything, it's worse. I will not be renewing that one. It's not worth it for the two or three good articles per year, and I could care less about what some tournament "pro" is doing. What they call fishing bears only a superficial resemblance to what I call fishing.

fishing user avatarstroz reply :

I like Bassin and advanced bass tactics . Advanced Bass tactics cost $15.00 But I think it is the best ,very detailed and tons of illustrations a new copy should be out now going to the bookstore tonight  ;D

                                                                         Stroz

fishing user avatarearthworm77 reply :

In Fisherman is a very good read. I don't care for Bassin. BassMaster has degraded somewhat. Inside Line is a great mag but it is also one giant infomercial for GY bait. Anybody know if Fishin Facts or Honey Hole is still around. Not the XXX Honey Hole....the one from Texas.

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

Yes, "Fishing Facts" is still around, and still superior to most bassing magazines.

Spence Petros is no longer the editor, but still writes articles for the magazine.

PS: Fishing Facts was the springboard for Al Lindner, who is now retired.

Roger

fishing user avatarMatt Fly reply :

Inside line and I can't believe not one person mentioned BASS WEST.

If it wasn't for alot of the west influence of bassin, alot of those other magazines would have never had nothing to say.

Although not originated in the US, most came by way of the west.

Drop shotting, split shotting, lite line tactics, swim baits, not too mention alot of plastic designs came from the west first.    Zipper worms, 4" weenie worms, which now are just finese worms, swims, slugo's which started a whole new phase of plastics.

It may be a reach, but I'd be willing to bet that guys like Triton Mike and others alike, hardly ever get a new bait or technique that they didn't know about already, and this is predicated on your experience level.    Most magazines articles are just written different, but say the same old thing over and over.

Hookem

Matt.

fishing user avatarfish-fighting-illini reply :

Depends on the species you want but I do like my Bassmaster magazine. Yes it has ads but I think the physical quality as well as the articles is good. I like Crappie and am thinking about getting In-fisherman. Bassin magazine seems to me to be more interested in promoting certain lures than teaching about catching bass.   JMO

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

I dont understand why anyone subrcscribes to magazines anymore. There is a practically unlimited resource that I use, "the internet" :P. JK I just like being able to find exactly what I want, when I want it, with less obtrusive advertising. Magazines seem like such a wate of money now.

fishing user avatarBucketmouthAngler13 reply :

If glenn desides to make a BassResource.com Magazine, it will (by far) be the best.

other than that, what magazine is the cheapest?

fishing user avatarNew Bass Man reply :

Go with Bassin and Bassmaster.  Between the two, you'll be hooked up!

You must have a computer in the bathroom  ;D ;D

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

Thats funny you should say that. I do. I'm serious. Sony PSP W/ Wifi. Its the only time I ever play/use that thing. It comes in pretty handy. You'll never know when I'm posting something while "at work" ha ha ha. I do have a book in there. but no magazines, only the PSP and a book. It only works sometime because it "borrows" my neighbors wifi. he knows, its all good.

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

In-Fisherman is #1 ! Bass West is a very good mag, with lots of trophy bass stuff too.... But as the name implies, its almost nothing but Western related stuff.
