If the bite is on, the bite is on.
OF COURSE thats when they bight best!
No, if there is thunder or lightning. I won't start when it's raining hard, but I won't quit if it starts raining while I'm out.
Honestly, a number of guys in my area can only fish on certain days. Rain is not going to stop us when we have one goal: to get out on the water. I have fished in what felt like hurricane conditions before. I'm not saying that its for everyone but its what we do around here.

Will keep on fishing unless there is lightening, then its time to retreat. I love fishing but it is not worth dying over.
Some of my best days of fishing have been in the rain.
Depends what mood I'm in, sometimes its fun fishing when its pouring rain outside haha
I won't go out in hard rain but light rain is ok. If it starts raining while I am already out I don't go running for the dock. I just keep fishing and I find I catch more fish. Lightning does scare me but that just means I am casting side arm more and staying close to cover and not fishing in the middle of the lake.
As a semi-retired human, I can almost fish whenever I want to.
I fish from a canoe, and while I am fairly waterproof, fishing in the rain really floods the boat and soaks my gear.
I do it a few times a year and ALWAYS regret it.
The bite is never that good and it takes two days to dry everything out.
I prefer to wait for less moist conditions.

I don't like launching the boat in the rain, but if I'm already out I'll keep fishing. I've been out in rain so heavy that navigation was difficult, couldn't see very well. In that case I tied up to a tree and waited it out.
I never leave the launch area without the rain suit in the boat, spring & fall - Cabelas Guide Wear, summertime I find that Frogg Toggs are sufficient.
Rain I have no problem with, when lightning starts to get close I get out of there.
Hey the fish are already wet, if the rain doesn't bother them why should it bother me.
There is a big difference between inclement weather and light rain. Going out on the water during a severe storm with heavy rain, high wind and possible lightning strike is foolish and life threatening. Fishing during light rain is a different story and I look forward and prefer to fish when it's light rain without high winds.

Thanks a lot guys for all the great replies! I did not expect all that and I appreciate it. Makes me feel good to hear from others because I don't really know anybody who I am close to who loves to fish as much as me and you talk about fishing in the rain and people think you are nuts. I have the same deal as one guy above posted and that is only being able to go on certain days and it is hard to not take advantage when I can. It is supposed to rain tomorrow and so long as it is just rain I'll be out there. I will gear up well and see how it goes. If the weather forces me to bail I will.
And I do enjoy the fact that rain keeps a lot of the other fisherman away as some mentioned above. I have noticed the football season does the same on Sundays. I love it! Thanks again for the input fellas
Found out if I keep my mouth shut in the rain I will float!!! Like fishing the rain...like fishing on football weekends...anything to have the water more to myself.....
Now thats it's getting closer to winter....whoooohooooooooo
Hair flys and floating flys...
Rain keeps the weekend warriors away
Happens all the time in a tournament. Lightning, that's a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, I have been in two life threatening situations and hope to NEVER repeat those mistakes!
There are only two conditions that keep me from fishing; Lightning and a frozen lake!
depends on how cold it is outside. in the summer heck yeak im going. bring rain gear and a dry box for the phone and im good to go
Light rain's not a problem. Wind and lightning send me home. Been caught out in bad storms a couple of times. I didn't know if I was going to make it back or not. Not only was I scared but I wasn't fishing either.
I like my recliner while it's storming.

Launch at 7, out by 11. Nap at 4:30
if its above 60 degrees I will fish regardless of weather, if there is lightning I typically head to the nearest launch and just beach the boat, and hang out under the trees till its gone. If it is between 40-60 I will still go with light rain, but heavy rain in 40 degree weather sucks, and typically so does the fishing...

See the rain ripples on the picture to the left? I make it a point to fish fronts.
As long as there is no lightning, I am out there in heavy rain or wind..
By this I mean bank fishing.. (I wouldnt go out in a boat in adverse conditions)
update: heh I just went out in the front this morning and they were liberally biting nothing huge.. biggest 15"
Easy, slow rain, no problem. If I hear thunder and/or see lightning, I'm out of there. Years back when I was fishing during over cast conditions, I heard thunder in the distance and paid it no mind. Then I made this one cast and the hair on my arm stood up and my line floated slightly up just in front of my boat. Couple of seconds later a bright flash and very loud bang knocked me back on the deck. It didn't hit me directly, but it hit somewhere nearby. That experience was my wakeup...now days when I hear thunder, no matter how distant, I stay off the water. I'll leave that to you brave souls.

If I'm at my house and it starts pouring rain, I suit up and head to my neighbor's pond haha, the fish bite really well there when it rains, and I just LOVE watching the big ball of mist come off a baitcaster when you cast it while its soaking wet lol...maybe I'm just weird
But NO FISHING WITH LIGHTNING
Your missing out on some great fishing if you dont fish in the rain.....

i know that feeling! its frightening and super loud
So is it just dangerous to be near water in a lighting storm?.. Or do graphite rods attract lughtning?
Graphite rods will conduct lightning, and so will water. Plus, being outdoors during lightning is not a good idea.
Not only do I fish, I will schedule specifically to fish if we have rain predicted.
I think most of the answers will depend on your locale. Here in So Cal, we don't get much rain and when we do, the storms that have lightning are few & far between (usually summertime afternoon monsoonal storms originating in the desert). Add in the moderate temperatures, even in December and you have a situation where rain typically turns on the bite & is not uncomfortable to fish in. Our "storms" are nothing compared to the rest of the country, even if the local news stations report a light drizzle as if it were a Noah sized inundation.
In fact, I prefer to do just about any outdoor activity in the rain. Our bigger problem is too many people and even a light drizzle will chase away a majority of our fair weathered population. Be it playing golf on a course that no one else is one or fishing a lake that you have to yourself, the rain is welcome by me.
I played the "Cast for Cash" game for many years and fished in all kinds of weather. While I've gotten old enough to get over that part of my life, I'm still young enough to know that there will be better days ahead if I can choose to stay in out of the rain.
Maybe when I get to that stage in life where buying green bananas comes with the risk that I might not be around when they're ripe, I'll feel the need to get soaked!
I don't fish when there is lightning. When it rains I wear rainsuit. That's what they are for.
I voted for "Only If Its a Light Rain" but I generally fish through even torrential downpours. About the only time I won't is if I wake up to go fishing and its coming down like I need to build an ark...then I don't mind calling it a day.
