Power or Finesse? 2024

I have 2 questions.

1. I know different situations call for different techniques, but IN GENERAL are you a power bass fisheman/woman or are you a finesse bass fisherman/woman?

2. If you're answer is "Power," What's your favorite FINESSE bait? If your answer is Finesse, what's your favorite POWER bait?

I guess I would say I'm a power fisherman, but I am learning more and more about finesse. My favorite finesse bait is the 4 inch worm drop shotted.

While the definitions of finesse and power are a little vague when it comes to bass fishing, I am for the most part, a finesse guy. My favorite power technique is quickly working a heavy jig on rock/gravel.

I'm a "whatever it takes" Bass fisherman. I tend to fish faster than most others, but if that doesn't work I slow down until something happens.

I guess I can put it better by saying I try to do what other people on any given body of water aren't doing, that often means to "out-finesse" folks who only use finesse stuff means going big and fast.

Mostly finesse, and my favorite power technique is probably when I'm burning a spinnerbait.

My preference is 'finesse' fishing, which I view as the "rifle approach" where vertical deliveries

and gliding deliveries prevail. Nevertheless, the crank-intensive, "shotgun" approach

is equally important, and I use both approaches interchangeably throughout the day.

I suppose finesse and power. I have pretty much just used for a lot of my years bass fishing Senko's and Spinnerbaits.

But since joining a club, I have crankbaited, drop-shotted, jigged (which I think could be both as well)

power, always power. I'll be the first to admit, I have no finesse game. Never had, never will. If I can't power fish my way thru a day, or I feel power won't get 'em, instead of trying to finesse 'em, I'll just rack the boat & head to another lake or head home.

95% of my fishing is at largemouth dominated lakes, If, for some reason I end up at a smallie lake, I can throw a mean fly & rind, that is the only exception.

I am more of a well rounded fishermen or what they call a junk fishermen I guess. Stained to dirty water I love power fishing with a jig, crankbait or spinnerbait. In clear water I love using plastics. Least favorite technique drop shotting, or noodling deep water. I can do it just don't have to like doing it.

To today's anglers Power and Finesse fishing refers to lures but to the ole school angler Power and Finesse fishing are states of mind.

Power fishing is saying to yourself that you will cover a lot of water in search of active bass. Finesse fishing where you go slowly and try to finesse inactive bass into striking; active bass is Lagniappe.

I combine both the techniques

i'd say im more of a finesse fisher as im usually fishing small jigs and plastics, slowly.

favorite power fishing baits are lipless cranks and spinnerbaits.

I'm on the power side of the equation. My goal is to cover as much water as possible to develop a pattern for that day. I believe that if you are to win local tournaments you have to be great at what you do best. Since I'm comfortable moving around alot, I've developed more into power fishing. I do finese fish from time to time but its not something I will throw right off the bat. Favorite finese techique is a shaky head.

I am a power guy, but have lately been left very disheartened by slower bites on teh lakes i frequent, so i am learning some finesse techniques.

Neither and both. I do what it takes. I prefer to fish fast, of course, but that is dependent on the fish.

It can be tough to "power fish" small waters -when you don't have a ton of water to search for (very much) water that supports your strengths. But with the number of small waters available to us here, I can usually find some fish more willing to meet me some of the way. Also, concerning small waters, finding the fish is less an issue -it's getting the bites.

If I put myself fully in either box, I'd be short changing myself and missing what's really going on and what needs to be done at a given place and time.

I'm a power fisherman. I'm most happy with a crankbait tied on.(lipped, or lipless)

My "Type A" personality made that decision for me. When I do finesse fish, my favorite bait is a Trick Worm, in Candy Bug.

Well said. Same here.

My system is first searching for bass with spinners, cranks, frogs and buzzers, and if and when I find them, I return and patiently try to clean up with jigs and plastics. Aside from spinnerbaits, I'm more comfortable with the finesse fishing game though.

I agree with Catt's definition, so I guess I'm "old school". I cover a lot of water searching for active bass using "power lures". But when I'm pressed into "finesse mode", I prefer tubes and 6" worms, but recently I've been getting into jigs.

I guess if I had to profile myself as one, I would probably be a power fisherman. There is nothing I love more than chucking and winding, searching for fish. But, I also love fishing with a big jig, I guess I'm not sure how you would classify that, seeing as I fish it slow, but it's a big bait...anyway.

I am also trying to make myself be a better finesse fisherman, my favorite bait would have to be a shaky head jig with a 4" Big Bite Bait Finesse worm tied on. I fish a lot of tournaments that are huge recreational lakes so there can be a lot of pressure unless you are back in creeks or in a secluded bay, so finesse fishing is become more of a necessity than anything for me.

In my itsy bitsy tiny mind I power fish with jigs & worms but I can also finesse fish with spinner baits & cranks.

I like to power fish with cranks and spinners or topwater with buzz or frogs.

However I do a lot of pond fishing so Im forced to finesse using various plastics therefore I have become very good at finesse fishing.

When the boss at my house approves my boat purchase and I get more time on bigger water I know my skill level with other techniques will improve.

Power. My #1 techinque is to rip craw colored cranks over rocky points and by docks, ticking the bottom all the way for smallies. I also like fishing a small yamamoto grub t-rigged fast over flats and weed beds for buckets.

For finesse it's a jig. I've only landed one fish with one and I'm trying to up my finesse game. I need a lot of work. This season I've been using weightless senkos and jigs for finesse with no luck.

I am primarly a finesse fisherman with plastics but I use power techniques a fair amount. Cranks or buzzbaits are my favorite power lures.

After the last two days in Lake Fork fishing nothing but a wacky rigged zoom finesse worm on a 0/2 straight shank hook and boating 3 fish over 7 lbs and several 2-5 lb fish I am now a believer in finesse fishing. Of course you have to be sure the area your fishing is holding fish or you will have a long day looking for fish.

This year so far i have been going out with just two rods rigged ,one with power stuff on it and one with finesse on it.I have just started finesse fishing with the charlie brewer slider worm set ups and have been having fun with it. I prefer the slower fishing methods like this ,it seems to bring a meditation state over me.

Fav technique is with a 6" Bubblegum Stik-O (BPS) Texas Rigged, and Weightless. It slay's the buckets time after time.

I can definitely fish fast and slow depending. I'll work water quick with cranks, but will slow down when I need to. I get a pretty good idea what will work on a given day. Favorite power bait is lipless crank with spinnerbait being very close second, favorite finesse bait would be a t-rig worm but love jig-n-pig.

I mostly power fish to find fish or cover lots of water if the fish are spread out and active. I will finesse at times in spots I found while power fishing to see I can draw another bite out of the area.

Depends on what is needed.

I finesse fish a jig or soft plastic, and prefer to power fish a topwater (poppers usually) when I can. Otherwise I use cranks mostly.

Mostly finess for me. But love a 1/2 spinner or buzzbait for power fishing.
