Now what do I do? 2024

fishing user avatardulouz reply :

My tackle box is organized.  My reels all are clean and have new line.  I have gone over all of my gear several times.  I even have put on a casting plug and gone outside and cast a few times until my hands go numb.

Any ideas what to do until ice out?

fishing user avatarBASSclary reply :

Play with your crankbaits in the bath-tub...

...atleast thats what I do.... :)

Is that what the young 'uns call it these days ?

You'll go blind if you keep doing that..

fishing user avatarHamby reply :

Haha!

Go to a river or creek. I guarantee you can catch something in a small creek with a small bobber. Probably a bunch of little chubs, but it's something. A river can produce decent fish...just fish a little slower and in deeper water.

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

My house needs painting.

Review this recent thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1293733378

Find some titles you haven't read yet and crack the books until ice-out.

I've got 1300 pages of bass book reading to do before Spring!  :D

fishing user avatarOHIO reply :

I'm in the same boat.

I get on BR as much as possible.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Read, read, read.

Watch DVDs.

Check out various techniques and baits on YouTube.

Visit the various web sites of the manufacturers, pros and retail outlets.

Get into good physical shape by working out.

Go outside and practice pitching and flipping into a bucket and then a coffee can at 20 feet.

Go to a pond and practice skipping your Senko with a spinning rig and then a baitcaster.

Practice tying the Palomar Knot on crankbaits and spinnerbaits without burning the line.

And then do it all over again!

Happy New Year!!!!  :)

fishing user avatarfishfordollars reply :

Bring yourself to Sam Rayburn or Toledo Bend and crawl into my boat with me.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Get maps of the lakes you fish and mark the spots

you need to be targeting. Then note the specific

lures you need to attack these areas.

Another game you can play is rigging several rods

for your next outing and plotting a game plan. For

me that would be starting with topwater and jerkbaits.

Next, Bandit or Wiggle Wart. Followed by a jig and/or

soft plastic.

8-)

Get a XBOX.

Get a XBOX.

Best idea yet  ;D

fishing user avatarHellbenderman reply :

If you look up to the upper left of this site, just under "The Ultimate Fishing Resource Guide" logo, you will notice the heading "Fishing Articles". I would start by going to "Bass Biology & Behavior" and reading the entire section. You have at your disposal a nearly endless, highly reliable, resource, and regardless how long you have been doing this, you WILL find information that will help you become a better fisherman, but start with the "Bass Biology & Behavior" section, first.

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

My house still needs painting :)

fishing user avatarbilgerat reply :

Come to my house and shovel snow.

fishing user avatarBassnajr reply :

Try what I do...

Pick a technique or two you are not comfortable with or unsure of. Study all you can over the winter and grab some lures/baits that a specific to those techniques off of the bass boards or local shops.

You may not end up being an "expert" but by knowing many various techniques, you will have a leg up on the guys who stay with only 2 or 3 techniques. JMHO

Good luck!!!! ;)

Alan (bassnajr)

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

Along with studying this time of year I still get out in my back yard and practice casting. I have several ring targets that I put out in my yard. I will spend hours working on my pitching and flipping. This will keep the rust off of ya while your water is still solid.

ice=perch for me. i ice fish. its something to do

fishing user avatarCrestliner2008 reply :

Visit BPS.

fishing user avatarJigMe reply :

Watch the playoff, and visit the bait monkey.

fishing user avatarBassThumb reply :

Try ice fishing for panfish. You don't even need a house, in fact you'll catch more fish without one, instead drilling a bunch of holes and moving around. All you really need is a gas auger, a graph, and a couple rods.

I tried this skipping thing.  HEH!  I'm an expert already!!  You should see that bait skip across the ice!!  I can skip it forever!

I get to go ice fishing in march on spring break sometimes. Gotta wade through some open water, break through the ice until i get to some thick enough to stay on top of, then make a hole in about 5 FOW with a hand auger. You'll be surprised how hard the last few inches of ice are that late in the year...especially with dull blades  ;D

fishing user avatarclipper reply :

Write down your wife's honeydo list, knock it out, check it off and keep it on the frig until ice-out.  When she complains about you going fishing next spring, point to the completed honeydo list.

Give Blood

Volunteer at a homeless shelter

Take your kids ice skating

Cook breakfast next Saturday morning before your wife gets up

Take down the Christmas tree(mine is still up)

Take the dog to the vet since his shots are 9 months overdue

Clean up the basement or garage...

Time goes by faster when you are busy :)

fishing user avatarHamby reply :

Make fish cribs.

fishing user avatartnbassfisher reply :

Well I've spent my Sunday afternoon looking through about 15 various fishing magazines. It really didn't help the cabin fever, just made me want to go fish even more.

fishing user avatarDeanFishesNY reply :

ice fish. buy a cheap hand auger and cheap little jigging pole and go catch some fish. I was out this morning for a couple hours before work and caught 10 or so bluegills. I even know of a pond I catch bass consistently thru the ice.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

If you already have new line on your reels and ice out isn't until March you'll have plenty of memory on your reels spooled with Fluorocarbon, mono, and co-polymer lines by then.  You can always change your line again.   :)
