Hey guys! Just wanted to hear what your goals are for 2013!!!
My goals are to catch a PB smallie, anything over 5 pounds. Top 40 in Buckeye Division BFL points to qualify for regionals!
How about you?
Think just to beat my PB in the 3 major fish I got for and do more brackish n salt for snook and tarpon...
get a 12lb+ LM bass
a 5lb+ peacock bass
a 7lb+ snakehead
Mine would be to top the 8lb LM section and get into some smallies somewhere.
Also I really would like to win a tournament since it is my first year fishing them
Catch new PB bass in both categories... Current LM: 5lbs 11 oz and SM: Around 2 to 2.5
2013 goals:
1. Get better at crankbait and drop shot.
2. Continue to be better locating bass.
3. Finish respectably in my first two casual tournaments.
4. Set new PBs - Current 3.1 lbs LMB - 3.0 SMB
Most of all have fun and fish a lot.
My goal for 2013 is to catch the next state record LMB since the "unofficial" state record was caught in my county only a short drive from my house by a fishing friend. But seriously I would like to beat my PB LMB looking for 6 pounds or better and eclipse my PB SMB anything over 5.5 pounds. And to fish more jigs so can get better at them.
I don't keep track of size or numbers (even saltwater fish), my only goal is to enjoy myself and not take it too serious each time I go. I have very little control whether a 1lb or 10 lb fish hits my lure, the first one there is the winner, the 10 is nice, but so is the 1.
I want to catch my first ten pounder. The bass that I am going for is in my picture and I think that with it being healthy and full of eggs because I believe it is a female, and also have food in its stomach with the good amount of minnows in the pond, that it could possibly go past the 10 pound mark and maybe get up to 11 quite possibly 11.5. Also catch my first crankbait and spinnerbait fish.
I already reached mine of getting a newer boat, was fishing out of a 12 foot aluminum till 2 days ago now i have this little gem.
Now just waiting for the ice to go away.
But for fishing goals, I am gonna try out a few tourneys and just enjoy fishing.
1 - the drop shot. Committing to it as my go to finesse technique.
2 - in tournaments it's to catch my limit in every tournament. That alone should help me place better than I did last year.
3 - Get on the water more often this season.
1. Catch a bass on what I have dubbed the "A Jay" jig (shown by member A Jay in "Do you use skirts on your plastics" topic), and use jigs more in general.
2. Catch my first fish on a fluke and sluggo.
3. Throw more of a variety of plastics besides the senko.
4. Take my kids fishing a lot more.
I actually put together the same list already on my blog, but I think after this past weekend's tournament, I may need to adjust it slightly. I still want to be more competitive in the tournaments I am entered in this year, but I need to improve on two specific techniques - crankbaits and spinnerbaits around timber.
I just want to catch a bass on one of those big swim baits. I suppose I'll have to start fishing with them first.
I am commited to graduating from dinks to keepers for my average catches. Last year I was concerned more with just getting bit, as it was my first serious year. This year I want to go big or
Go home!
Guess I need to learn the jig..

That PB is always a goal for me. In addition, spending more time on the water and learning the not-so-obvious structure in the area of Lake of the Ozarks that I fish regularly.
First year fishing as a member of a club and I want to finish in the top 5 for AOY.
Win a tournament.
Catch a limit in every tournament.
Fish one "big" event and finish in the money.
Get more experience on the waters of Central VA.
I moved across the country last July, but haven't been able to fish since. My goal is to catch some fish on new waters and hopefully a PB too.
Get out and fish more than last year.
Hit the 5 pound mark at least once this year.
Break my PB.
1. Buy a fishing boat. (finally talked the wife into letting me do it)
2. Fish more then previous years.
3. PB Largemouth (5+LBs)
4. PB Walleye (4+LBs)
5. Master the art of fishing with plastics and jigs.
Mine at this point is to fish in above freezing temps! With no snow in the forecast
catching a new PB always tops the list
also I want to catch bigger fish more consistently / lean to pattern fish more
My goals for this year are:
A To get out on the water as much as I can.
B To fish with as many friends and family as possible.
C Try and beat my PB of 6.5 lb.
D To have as safe of a year as possible.
I had a list of goals -- new techniques, PBs, and the like -- now it's simple: Fish more. Take advantage of every weekend. Brother-in-law doesn't want to take the boat out? Shore fish. Brother-in-law wants to go out? Boat fishing.
Get my boy to reel in his first bass and get a picture with dad!
only 2 goals for me:
1) break my PB (5 pounds and a half from last year)
2) begin using jigs (i began fishing with cranks, then used sipnnerbaits, now i have been catching them on worms, so i think the next logical progression would be to tie on a jig)
Well first off I would like to get my first Bass Boat. 2nd. I would like to be in the top 5 multiple times in tournaments this summer. 3rd. Try new techniques this summer and throw more variety of baits.
Qualify for the top 6 tournament at the end of the year in my club. Try to be more complete eg. fishing out of my comfort zone and learning and using other techniques.
Can't go wrong with anyone's answer. A goal is just that. I'd love to hit that elusive double digit bass. good luck to all.
Now that I'm retired I plan on a pain staking documentation of my 10 local waters' bottoms - where the breaklines are, weed bed edges, bottom hardness changes, the extent of humps and points (rather than guessing) and seasonal changes in bass position relative to structure. How many of you really know what's down there or just stick to fishing the shallows which a majority of anglers pound?
I bought some display rakes from a business going under and have started putting individual soft plastic lures, each in its own bag on display so I don't forget to try them and learn each potential.
There are lures going back fifteen or more years that according to my log book did fine on different outings but were stored to make room for the latest lure-of-the-day. My own creations are at the top of the rack. When time permits, all lures should be given another chance unless they were defective or inferior to lures of similar design.
I've gotten away from casting crankbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater plugs, spoons with trailers, spinner-worms and in-line spinners. Time to get them out of storage and get serious.
catch 1000 bass(I may not make it after my car broke down this week)
Win a tournament.
Upgrade my PB(low pb anyways at 2 something pounds)
My personal goals are to get a new motor on my Ranger. Fish some Local tournements, gain some confidence. I'd like to fish all of my local waters just not my favorite one. Go exploring learn new tactics. More than anything...have fun!
I want to demolish my PB. I was just starting to get into fishing last year and then the colder days came and I was inside. This year I want to beat my PB and get better at finesse/soft baits.
Not have anything break, blow up, sink, keep myself and my gear out of the lake, and keep as much money in my pocket as possible.
Learn how to fish from a boat (just got 14ft aluminum)
Become skilled with my baitcaster
Put what i read here and Bill Murphy's book to use. Know what lure to use and use less guessing. "well i think this might work"
Jig it up
My primary goals are the same every year- qualify for state, qualify for regionals, and ultimately, qualify for the Classic. Everything else I do on the water is in support of those goals.
I want to become a better jig fisherman, if I can find the patience.
But I also want to go catching, not just fishing.
Want to do better in areas that I don't have much luck in.
And what ww2farmer said.
Catch a 5lb bass
Catch a SmallMouth
Enter and win atleast one of the jonboat tournaments im gonna enter.. dont care if i win big bag or biggest bass.
My goal this year is to teach someone else how to fish adult or child.
Spend more time on the water fishing with my son. Did not get to do that much last year and he is going to be a senior in high school next year.
catch bass and have fun doing it. what else is there?
These are My goals in order:
1) have fun.
2) win tournaments/TOY
3) improve on techniques I do not have much confidence in ( jerkbaits/big swimbaits)
4) get new personal bests in large mouth/Small mouth bass (7.3lbs/6.1lbs) walleye(11.2 lbs) northern pike( 27.5 lbs) and muskie (4.0 lbs what a tiny muskie i know)
5) share my passion for fishing with others.
Mitch
Top 40 in BFL Points in Michigan
Win one of my two state tournaments
And have some fun along the way.
My goals are to:
Top my PB
Catch a bass on a jig and a spinnerbait
Catch a LM in thick weeds
win a tourny...
get better at knowing when to switch tactics
stop over analyzing the conditions
win a tourny...
1. Catch a bass
2. Learn how to fish every type of bait
3. Learn how to locate bass
4. Be confident in my gear and my ability to fish
5. Have fun and enjoy the fishing experience
Fly fish for bass.
Fish more.
Catch a DD on a DD (22). Had a good start to the year with 2 wins and a couple of top 5 finishes so I would really like getting a PB deep cranking as I cosider this my main weakness.
My goals are to become more familiar with drop shoting and the Carolina rig, take steps to join a local bass club to prepare for tournaments, and a new pb wouldn't hurt...
