am i the only one - when i registered on here and started reading posts i felt like if i didn`t have a bass boat i shouldn`t be on here does anyone fish in a canoe - a lot of lakes i go on only allows battery troll motors - tell me i`m not alone
Fished for years out of an innertube - if you fish for bass you belong here boat or no boat. It's a bass fishing site not a boating site.
Not at all, we have a ton of members that fish from canoes, kayaks, and inflatables.

Lots of guys that are shore bound too.

You're not the only one. I initially had the same feeling, but the more you read, the more you find out that a lot of the information applies to yakkers, canoes and bank walkers alike. A lot of the fishing I do is also on a trolling only lake also.
Go to the boats board an you'll see people that fish from kayaks and canoes. I use a kayak most of the time although I own a fish/ski. I need to sell it.
I'm shore bound, always have been. But the fish are the same, as are (most) of the ways to catch them.
I just don't bother reading the topics about trolling motors and such But most of the info here on BR doesn't have anything to do with boats.
On the other hand, with pretty much all hard copy bass magazines it's assumed the angler has at least one bass boat, 10 rods, and lives on a reservoir.

I'm at the mercy of whoever has a boat and when they can go. My financial situation won't allow for a boat right now so I'm land locked myself most of the time these days. So don't feel like you're alone. If you fish for bass you're in the right place.

ton of ppl here have canoes or just plain shore fish. honestly this is one of the best fishing forums i have come across.
If you did a survey, I'll bet you a watermelon fluke that there are probably more bank beaters, kayakers, canoeers and co anglers here combined, than those with a 21' Ranger

Oh, not at all. Many here don't have a boat.
I'm another non-boating member here. I've owned boats in the past, but due to some physical issues, I can no longer deal with using a boat. Does that make me a "second class" fisherman? In some peoples eyes, probably so, but the pleasure I find in fishing isn't defined by someone else opinions. I still fish regularly and treasure every minute spent fishing as much as anyone and catch enough fish to keep me going back. Would it be nice to have a big ol' glitter barge with a 300 hp belchfire motor and electronics that would put the space station to shame? Sure, but you don't need them to catch fish or to have a great day fishing.
So, welcome to Bass Resource, get out there and have fun, and post often!

I'm in the same boat! Around here the lakes aren't that big. I fish exclusively out of my canoe.
I get a kick out of watching guys with $40,000.00 Bass Boats trolling around with the motors up........
Just power washed it... Now the driveway..... Then I'm goin fishin!

12 ft of pure metal.
I fish from the bank and my kayak way more than a bass boat. Most of what I have learned about bass fishing has come from this site, videos and time on the water. What I have learned I have been able to adapt in all situations.
No bassboat for me either. I fish from my yak and shore. Once in a while I go on my buddy's boat though.
I am either fishing from shore or from a canoe 99.9% percent of the time.
When I first joined here I didn't have a boat never made me feel out of place though. Boat no boat fishing is fun
I've never felt that way, and I've never owned
a bass boat.
I just wanted to glean the wisdom of bass fishing
from those more experienced than me. So far,
it's been awesome!
And I'm a kayak fisherman. I did fish out of a canoe
before going the yak route.
I read some where that most fisherman don't own a boat. I bank fish and kayak/canoe fish. I think catching a bass while bank fishing, particularly a big lake bank, is worth more than catching a bass from a big
bass boat in that same lake.
As for the big bass boats - I went to the Indianapolis Boat and Travel show a few years ago. The whole crowd was in the fishing tackle arena. The building with all the bass boats and pontoon boats had no crowds at all. I did look at the boats but I can understand why not too many people were looking - they were all fifty thousand, forty thousand and thirty thousand dollars.
I think all the bass fishing shows on TV are heavily sponsored by the bass boat companies.
Have a boat? No, but I would love a fishing kayak. Right now I learn more bank fishing since I cant just motor or paddle to the most ideal spot on the lake.
If you don't know where or how to find the fish a boat won't do anything but make it easier to move around the water. Knowing seasonal patterns, the bait in the water your fishing, and how the fish react to weather is far more vital then having a boat. A boat only gives you access, not the skill of finding fish.
Kayak here.
Fishing from the bank is fine, but I get bored when I'm not moving around.
If you're feeling left out, check out Craigslist. You can be on the water in a kayak or canoe for cheap these days.
I would not agree with your perception regarding needing a bass boat to participate or to catch bass.
I'm an Old Town Man myself.

What did you use for your rod holders?
Back in Michigan I had pleasure boat on Lake St Clair at a marina, not designed for fishing but I fished and caught. Moving to an inland lake I bought another pleasure boat, didn't fish with it much as I preferred fishing from a rowboat.
Now in Florida I don't do boats for freshwater, don't care to tow or load up a kayak. As far as catching, no doubt in my mind I'd do way better with a boat.
Probably more non bass boaters here than are.
I tend to be a "romantic" when it comes to the outdoors and angling especially. Hiking trails along the river...looking for good spots, watching the birds, turtles, snakes, etc
The solitude of "fishing fine and far away" to quote Charles Cotton. Bank fishing (and now my ventures into shallow wading) brings me peace and quiet and is very soothing, especially out here along the Shenandoah.
I'd love to have a canoe, but I doubt I'd use it more than once a week. As far as racing around reservoirs on a bass boat, just not my thing even if I could afford it.
I guess I'm a fly angler at heart, but not in technique. (I plan to be buried with my spinning tackle when the time comes, I love spinning so much)

Small PVC tubes of an appropriate diameter to accommodate the rods and cut to length.
This picture appears in my galley and shows it better.

I fish in Suffolk county, where I live, and while we do have hundreds of small lakes and ponds ( the largest being 240 acres) there are no gas motors allowed in a single one.
I've been fishing strictly out of a boat with trolling motor for over 20 years now.
I use my 8 ft bass hunter on solo trips and my 12 ft porta boat when with another.
They both are super stable and fish well, getting into every square yard of these small bodies of water.
I used to fish off the bank for years. I caught my first bass off the shore as the sun set and I could see them when they moved in. I ran a Rapala right past one and he just sat there. I cast out past him again and used a slow retrieve, got caught in a blade of grass and twitched it for a second and watched him hit it. I've been hooked since.
Then I got a boat and its a game changer. My lake is a small 108 acre lake that's electric motor only. Now I'm fishing off a 16' Pontoon boat with 2 - 48 thrust Minn Kota rear motors and a Minn Kota Edge 70 thrust foot controller on the front. My sons all fish off the shore when I have a full boat or don't go out and they do pretty well.
I struggled for a long time with using the rear motors and then used a 24 thrust on the front that I reversed the head but still had to keep adjusting to the point I felt like I just drove people around so they could fish. There's nothing like fishing off a boat with a foot controller trolling motor.
I don't think I could go back to bank fishing, long term anyway. I would go with a jon boat. They're pretty cheap and you can deck them out, put a low thrust cheap foot controlled motor on it and hit it all day almost identical to a bass boat, as far as maneuvering it. A foot controller and depth finder and think it's as sweet as can be for the money.

Hey, I´m romantic too; I get off the boat and walk the shore however in my neck of the woods you gotta be careful when walking the banks, that rattlin´ sound you hear 5 ft away from your feet ain´t exactly that Rat L-Trap you got tied and stuff like that.
No bass boat for me, either! Bank, wading, canoe, and kayak.
I use to walk the shores with my girl friend. Then we got married and all that suddenly stopped. I suppose I should have found another girl friend..... .. .. .
I fish a canoe + trolling motor. It's really not much of a disadvantage vs a bassboat once you're at a location. It's only an issue if there is wind or wake from other boats.
Ive had two bass boats. Now I have a 22 foot Lowe deck boat because my wife wanted a boat for her to be comfy in. It fishes better than I expected. It actually has the same hull as 22 foot bay boats they make . I added an 80 thrust elec motor to it. I also fish out of a 14 foot flat bottom john boat , a plastic bass Baby and a canoe. I would like to get a nice yak too. I catch a lot of bass in those smaller waters .
