On a trickworm!! What a bass!!!!
Good grief that's a beast!
Awesome! Makes me wanna move down south
Wonder if it was released alive?
20 minute fight would likely kill it. Not an expert.... just guessing.
Whoa..
What a fricken pig
I'm sure it felt like 20 minutes, can't imagine any bass actually fighting that long though. That thing is a monster for sure!
I keep waiting for someone to ask if it is a state record...
Was it Randall
Wow , big fish
That's a once in a lifetime fish. Apparently he kept his head and played it perfectly. Congratulations to him.

Hook into a big striped bass from a kayak in the surf; you may experience a 20 minute fight from that bass

For sure, even a world record class largemouth isn't going to give you but maybe 5 minutes, they just aren't built for distance, they're sprinters.
That's a huge bass!
Wow! And on his 51st birthday. Fish of a lifetime.
Nice job, even for a Bulldog lover
Some folks doubt that the world record was really taken from GA. In my view, given the life span increase by moving into the northern range of it's habitat, and take away the millions of people who now live in the area that didn't almost 100 years ago, this 17.6 pounder indicates that a 22 pounder would have been very possible a century ago. Who knows, had this poor fellow not sucked in a Zoom, it might have been the next world record. LOL
PS, it is being reported that this is a 4 year old fish, as it was a stocker 4 years ago, in a lake that had been drained 5 years ago. Chew on that implication. One fellow is suggesting they must have been stocked as adult bass by do gooders. I'd tend to agree.
A great story.
12 lb test! What a fish!
Wow ~ Just Wow !
Slobasaurus Rex.
Congrats to Mr. Watkins.
A-Jay
Freakin horse right there. Awesome fish.
Awesome fish, good for him!

It looks like he took it out of a cooler in the picture. I doubt it could have made it alive from Coweta county to Villa Rica like that.
Happy Birthday and congratulations.... I don't think I've ever caught a Striper that heavy, and I live 300 yards from the ocean.... Awesome!
I hope this isn't another April fools hoax.
Nothing adds up, 33" long, that is 4" longer than any LMB bass ever caught in California, Dottie was 29". 33" long, 28" girth = 25+ lbs. numbers don't lie.
20 minute fight, only in his dreams.
The lake was drained 5 years ago and refilled.....
Tom
I have to move south.

Probably not, that is an amazing fish!
Since I'm sure some of you were wondering...
No, it wasn't me who caught it. Ha!

I saw what you did there.
I've got the 9.6 oz. down pretty good now I need to work on the 17 pound part.

How did I miss this?
He played that perfect on 12lb line.
Couldn't imagine being in GA knowing you'll never catch a state record.
That's an experienced angler right there. Lots of folks wouldn't have thought to adjust their drag and play the fish out. They would've broken off on the first run.
HUGE fish.
The biggest bass I've ever caught was 7.5 and I couldn't believe the size of THAT fish when it came up...I'd pass out if a bass weighing almost 20 lbs surfaced in front of me.
I bet there won't be an open parking spot at that lake til January.
That is HUGE!!...
Huge fish...what did you catch it on?

who cares! But if he did'nt, anyone who found out would probably give him so much agrivation he'd wish he had. I could care less, I might donate it to the state for breeding, or have it mounted if the money was available, putting the the back would be the last things on our mind if we had caught a 17+ pound bass! Lol

I agree Tom the numbers seem a little off but that fish looks huge. I have no problem with the weight. If they used a soft measuring tape around the curve I could see it adding a couple inches.
This is the fourth biggest LMB on record that has been caught in Ga and it's still bigger than Florida's State Record of 17lbs 4 3/4oz.

If the bass was measured hanging down from tip of the jaw to the longest point on the tail, 33" is possible, the girth is another issue....
The later articles correct the fight time, he estimated that, could be less than 5 minutes, that is normal considering the excitement and no mention of measurements are given.
It's a giant bass! The story came out April 1, always a red flag.

Mr. Tom, I think that we all agree it's a HUGE pig bass!
I also think that the details can be a bit fuzzy, just like you stated, it is highly likely that the details could be off since he was in complete excitement.
Never the less, Its another bass thats up their with your top 5
Big fish for sure. The weight looks legit & the scale would be certified. I agree the measurements don't add up. But since there is no certification process in place for accurate measurements they are very up to the person doing the measuring who may or may not be accurate. The pictures help substiante the stated weight but the measurements indicate the fish weighs more than the given weight. Throw out the measurements and the conversation would only be about what a beautiful fish he caught.
That is one heck of a fish! Good golly
