Moderator?? 2024

fishing user avatarBass Dude reply :

Why do people seem so scared of the moderators?? A gentleman wrote a very good post, but he started it out by saying he hopes the moderators don't close the thread or give him a warning. I have also seen other posts that have a comment similar to this.

I could be wrong and in the minority, but the threads that I've seen closed....I would agree with the mods and them locking the threads. Also, I don't believe they give out warnings without valid reasons.

Just curious why people seem to be so tentative....I don't think they can take your birthday away...can they??

...and no I am not brown nosing!!

It seems like that on EVERY forum i belong to both paintball forums, here, and the 2 predator hunting forums I belong to. I think it just has to do with authority no one likes authority figures in most cases. I will say though of all the forums i go on this one is by far the best and with the best moderators they actually interact with posts and share there knowledge. J Francho has taken me fishing a few times before this deployment Glenn is always doing his video's the mods all do a great job with this site there rarely if ever negative there's a few negative posts but its very rare. All the other forums I frequent the mods only post when they are playing "cop" all they do is throw warnings and threats around but not here this site everyone is treated like family. Heck Long Mike has been taking the time helping me tweak my resume IMO all the mods here go above and beyond. And no im not brown nosing either

I can only think that a person might feel they're pushing the rules a little too hard.

Presonally, I've had the honor to meet several of the moderators along with Glenn and Keri. They're a great bunch of folks.

Even Long Mike until he cracks open that second box of wine!

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

Well, the majority of moderators on all forums are big D's, so it's common to have that mindset when you walk into a new forum such as this one and it's not the case.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

^^ Winner! ^^

Seems there's a general impression that all mods are power-hungry jerks who tend to abuse their authority. And with good reason. I've seen it on many other forums, so the stereotype is enforced.

Sometimes new folks label us with that stereotype....that is until they get to know us. :)

fishing user avatarNitrofreak reply :

The post in question you are referring to was a good post, I don't think it was so much a question of him being scared of them, it was more along the lines of the poster being worried that they may step out of bounds and loose face in the community.

The mods in other places are somewhat power people who like to push their weight around and if the poster has visited other sites this may be the reason for the created timmidness for posting what he/she did.

There are some really great mods here and ones that are interactive, and even some that will debate in a heated discussion at least until it goes a little too far, I love the freedom they give us to express ourselves, either in the heat of battle in words, or a failed attempt at humor.

Either way the post was good and the mods here are AWESOME !!!

As a mod, admin an owner of several forums I can tell you that the main reason is this is a family site. They want it kept that way. If you wont say it around your preacher, wife, GF, mom or grandma, dont say it here.

I dont think people are scared of them. Its kinda like spilling a beer on a guys carpet youve known for about a week. You want to be a good guest.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

It's pretty easy to not get in trouble, read and follow the rules and there won't be any problems. Of course you have people who just can't seem to get that concept through their thick skulls, that's where the mods come in :)

I'm the only one with warning points? Well, if I'm the worst you guys have to deal with, then you guys have it easy LOL. And by all means, do not talk about the banjo minnows!

This made me laugh because the only time I spill stuff is when I'm at someones house for the first time.

fishing user avatarlogan9209 reply :

Ah, I believe the post in question and the poster in question would be me and mine. I made the comment because my post was going to be a vague reference to a previous post that was locked out. However, if you noticed my next statement was to the effect that I know the mods are good people and would assess the post in fairness.

Having no warning points myself, I personally don't fear the moderators. I do, however, believe in living in peace with everyone as much as can be helped on my part. So, I try to find the balance of speaking honestly while not offending anyone. It's impossible to do that 100% of the time, but it is possible to make sure that what I'm saying isn't driven by the need to purposely offend someone.

Even if I had gotten a warning point, I wouldn't worry about it. I would just asked the mods where I stepped out of line, if I wasn't already told, fix the issue and move on. Also, I'm not going to always remember the rules. For instance, there are unmentionable lures that I don't have so wouldn't think about or know what the rules say concerning it. If I did come across one, had I not seen the post I might have made the same mistake as someone else. Although I do try to do a search on here prior to making a new post.

To boil it down, the post I made was originally designed to be a response to another post. The other post brought up an interesting topic in my mind but was locked before I could get the thought out. So when I made the post myself, I didn't know what would happen and decided to give the mods a fair heads up. Unfortunately you can't tell a poster's mood from the txt most of the time. If you could, then it would be known that I wasn't making a slanted crack at the mods and I don't want anyone on here to be afraid of the mods. These guys have constantly went beyond expectation to provide a fun and informative place for us to get together. And they've brought various power houses, like Big-O, who further that learning experience while giving us some inside info.

Shoot, I blame it on the meds.....they're slowing my thought process down. Just kidding. :)

fishing user avatarLong Mike reply :

I suppose the biggest mistake that members make is posting a video or a document (not of their own creation) that contains profanity. The first time you do it, you get a private friendly warning. The second time you do it you start getting warning points.

On behalf of the Mods, thanks for the votes of support. Those of you who know us know that we are just regular guys who enjoy bass fishing. We are not out to flout the so-called "Power of the Moderator." We are here to make sure that this site stays spam free, and family friendly. That is all.

Daiwa is superior to all, (Except maybe Lews)

But on a SHE-MAN-O biased forum, I know I will never win the battle. Not enough people.

Now however, on Tackle Tours forum, They are Daiwa biased.

Also, when you join the Dark Side (Daiwas), you will also pay alot more for all those crazy awesome JDM Daiwas that they refuse to give to the USDM.

And you're not the only one with warning points, I've got one. But its from way back in 2010.

No one likes to be told they are out of line.

And with so many personalities on this site we can have conflicts, especially when one has a strong opinion and another takes exception.

I have been warned once or twice and did not like it. But looking back the mod was correct and I was wrong.

As long as you are friendly, sincere and do not start trouble you have nothing to worry about.

If you do get a nasty or testy reply just forget it and go on.

You get more files with sugar than with vinegar.

And what is so surprising is that I like J Franco now. At one time I had doubts about him but after reading his posts he seems to be an OK guy. Then again.....

I've been on forums where mods rule with an iron fist or act like babies and take things to personal and I've never had a bad experience but I've seen guys get shafted before maybe some people here have seen that on other forums too would be my guess

fishing user avatarwhitwolf reply :

As many others on here I belong to a few different forums. I belong to a particular sports forum where the mods deal with fans from different ACC schools. It can be a zoo. It's incredibly difficult to read a forum where there's nothing but drama and Infighting. The point being Is this a finally run forum that's enjoyable to read and that's a testament to not only the mods. but to the posters here.

I have said it several times In the past but It bears repeating; the mods. here are more than fair and as a group not only do a great job but are durn nice folks.

fishing user avatarBroke bass fisherman reply :

I have to agree with everyone on this thread. I don't fear the mods. I unknowingly posted looking for some information on a product that was taboo and it was taken care of according to the rules of the forum. I didn't understand, and personally disagree, but the mods where respectful and allowed my transgression to pass without threats or added drama. I see no reason to fear the

Mods, I kinda look at them as traffic cops. If no one enforces the rules of the road for the minority that break them then no one can drive.

fishing user avatarout_doors_guy reply :

Being relatively new here, I have to say this forum is the best. I, like many of you I am sure, belong to several forums and this one is head and shoulders above all the others.

This is the only one where the mods actually join the discussion, all the others I am on, the only time you even know they exist is when a thread gets yanked.

Good job and keep it up.

fishing user avatarredboat reply :

Interesting thread.

I've been a member for several years but you'll see I have relatively few posts. That's because if I post something that doesn't follow the current "party line" someone or the other jumps all over the post, explains how he disagrees, how wrong I am, what an idiot I am, how I expect to catch a limit every time I go out, and so on and so on.

One of those folks who seems to feel the need to jump on me every time I post is a moderator.

So I come here almost every day, there are some AWESOME videos (thanks Glenn for showing me I've been rigging worms incorrectly all these years) but mostly let the forums alone. By and large I think the moderators do a good job, but I wish people here were a little more open minded.

fishing user avatarFishing-Vol reply :

I have to disagree that all the mods are ok. One mod thinks that you should spend six months reading posts so that you don't post in the wrong place in your first 50 posts. And one should have an internet degree before asking a question before you get 50 posts. And if a new member dares to make one of these mistakes then you will get a big ole " Come on man" so you won't post ever again. Just my two cents.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

Like others I'm a member of other forums too, not just fishing sites. I'm not sure why but I see little or no arguing, personal attacks or any reason for a moderator to even be seen, and they aren't. In all fairness BR has a large membership, needs certain policy restrictions that other sites can be more lenient with in regards to subject matter. I do see the need on BR for more moderators as this site is active 24 hours a day, other sites get far less membership participation. One of the main differences I see is moderator participation. Other sites the moderators do exactly that, moderate and are not overly active in day to day posting on topics, giving little or no bias or upstaging, just some occasional general information useful to all. I'm not one for brown nosing or walking on egg shells to voice an opinion or to agree just for the sake of acceptance.

I would be remiss if I didn't say Glenn does a wonderful job as moderators. Glenn sets the bar, however I don't feel his standards are always met.

fishing user avatarLund Explorer reply :

I am also the member of several other forums, and there is a wide spectrum of what a poster can get away with as you travel from one to the other. Without a doubt, Bass Resource is the most civil of all of them. This is likely due to a combination of the forum's rules barring certain hot button topics as well as an active group of moderators. While the moderators on this forum take an active part in many discussions, there are other forums where you would think that they actually enjoy the flaming posts. I can't imagine being invited to any other forum's get togethers and going, or with some, even acknowledging that I belong to the forum. That isn't the case here, as I have not only attended a RoadTrip, but have proudly invited others to check this site out. Don't worry Glenn, those invites are to fishermen I meet in person, and not from some of those other sites! :wink2:

I did have an issue with one of the moderators here a while back, but it wasn't so serious that I felt it was worth taking it any further. It is easier to enjoy the benefits of the many people I look forward to conversing with, and just leaving or ignoring others that might lead me to post something I could regret. As a matter of fact, I think being an active poster here has actually toned down my attitude on those other forums.

In my honest opinion, it is fairly easy to avoid the wrath of any BR moderator. Read and understand the simple rules that Glenn has published and consistantly refers to, and learn to walk away from the posts, subjects, or members you are never going to agree with. It's easy to use this forum as a tool to learn from, to payback with some bit of knowledge that may teach others, and just maybe to find a few friends along the way. The last thing everyone should do is to recognize those hot button issued still allowed here, and if you dare jump in, to simply state your viewpoint on the subject, and to not take any replies too seriously. With a little practice, I might even be able to do that.

I've read some member's opinions about this site being over-moderated and I think it couldn't be further from the truth. I joined a couple of years ago and read thru some threads that went way over the top IMO, but the mods let it go hoping it would turn for the better. As time went on there were some folks who were constantly over the top and it trickled down to some new members who would not post here anymore. It was a shame really, we lost some really nice folks who had a lot to contribute towards this site, but wouldn't post because of some bad apples. Over-moderation for a short spell came into play and now you don't see those "over-the-top" guys anymore. What you do see is more and more newer members actually sticking around and some of the really older folks who stuck with it who really enjoy each others company.

We have a great group of people here and it feels really good to be a part of this community.
