Bassmaster came out with a new 100 top bass lake list and #1 is.....Sturgeon Bay WI.
Tom
One of my favorite places to fish
I saw that - some interesting places on that list this time.
A-Jay
more laughable than the first list.
What no lakes in Delaware, made the list.LOL
Planet......I think not. I think this should read in the US.

LOL, that's what I thought. They have a separate "south of the border" section. I guess the planet ends at the Rio Grande.
Must be why they are referred to as "Illegal Aliens."
The Stick Marsh in Felesmere, Fl. will hold its own with anywhere in the country. If you want to catch a mess of big fish its definitely the place to go. Day in and day out there are more double digit big fish caught there then anywhere in Florida. My personal opinion.

Double digit fish isn't the point of the article. It's for best bass fisheries which will and do change year in and year out and if you had the choice of catching a 20 lb limit in a day or the CHANCE at catching an 8 lber, the better fishery will almost always be a 20 lb limit.
That being said, the Potomac should definitely be on that list. And they took a picture of one of my favorite docks to fish
Stick Marsh is 42 on the list because there are no tournaments allowed, can't find the Potomac. 30 pound + limits are normal for this place. No fish even allowed in a live well. Just loads of big monster fish. It should be higher, but that's just my personal opinion.
Shocked to see my home lake (New Melones) come from off the national radar to a #51 ranking. Bummer is that it could be short lived... major drought plus increased water being pulled out for the delta has it about 150 ft down from where it was three years ago. Water level typically rises here in the spring, so the reservoir losing about a foot a day has to be a nightmare for the spawning bass.

How tragic, though typically pitiful as is bassmaster, that to them the "Hottest" means catching fish that average ONLY 4lbs. 4lbs. todays Hot fish, probably full of the black ick spots too but thats just a "sun tan" ......ask the professionals!
I can't imagine why anyone would want their favorite lake on this or any other "Top Whatever" list.
For what it's worth, all those Michigan lakes listed there are swamps with nothing more than dink walleyes and hammer handle pike in them. Smallmouth? Never heard of them unless its 10" bass with small mouths!
Change your vacation plans and travel somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon line where the real fish are.

True......... I am going to have to look for where all those trees are in the water at in Pickwick..... I never seen it before.

It's an incredible fishery.
this list seems really biased toward smallmouth fishing this year... it was interesting to hear about the lakes up in the New England area... i figured the fishing was good, but didn't know it was that good...

after your first sentence, i think the middle part of this post is a bait and switch.
I notice in fishing swamps there are bigger fish making the bass fry too? We have bigger DD bass up here there not being caught.
Not everyone fishes for bass up here.
Only one place listed in ct? Candlewood lake. It has more productive bass fishing lakes than one. The bassmasters can only rate the Tornies they fish.
The ct river is probably one of the best fish producing rivers in the country if not the northeast.
When did B.A.S.S. elites fish Sturgeon bay?

Not really. More like a flat out lie!
Gladly, they didn't mention several of my favorites spots along Lake Michigan.

According to the article, the Elites weren't the first or even the second source for this year's list.

They fished Green Bay last year and the cutoff was just outside of Sturgeon Bay
Green Bay is ranked 31, why not fish the best bass bay in Lake Michigan or list Lake Michigan as #1, they listed Lake Erie as #3, another Great Lake.On 5/3/2014 at 9:53 PM, slonezp said:They fished Green Bay last year and the cutoff was just outside of Sturgeon Bay
Lake Casitas was listed #60 this time because of it's reputation of being a giant bass lake and that claim doesn't apply anymore and will not for another 5 years or so. Today Casitas is a good number lake and 20 lb 5 bass limits are common but this lake is too small to accommodate a lot of boats and requires 21 day quarantine period for every boat that passes quagga mussel inspection to be allowed to fish. This makes Casitas prohibitive to fish for anyone that doesn't live locally.
Clear lake would be the best Largemouth bass fishery in the world according to this list.
Tom
Stick Marsh is sick, anyone and I mean anyone can go out there and have a potential for a double digit, put in a week from Nov. thru March and if you don't have one your doing something wrong. 5 fish limit 25lbs, easy cheesy!
No lakes from Kansas this year?! What a shocker At least they got that part of the list right Nothing but catfish and cornfields here. I actually drive to Missouri and Oklahoma to catch all my fish
Can't believe Hartwell didn't make it.

Yeah I was looking for it too. I am sure it will make it NEXT yr.
It's been a long, long time since I gave a rip for anything bassmasters had to say.

So you're saying that Stick Marsh is a heavily pressured lake that is easy to catch fish on? Do they make sure people don't keep the bass?
How would you compare Stick Marsh to lake Toho?

CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY! Toho is a bigger lake system and has more bass, but density of bass/big bass is higher on Stick Marsh/Farm pond, but both are great double digit potential lakes.
What it should be is eye opening for state biologists. I cant believe how many states spend money to stock trout in waters that cant support them once temps rise instead of spending said money on warm water species, habitat, launches...

Trout stamps and fines for not having them make money.

A couple 17's and a motivated "DREAMER" will put your lake out there pretty quick.

A world record Spotted bass from New Melones this year tends to put in the public eye in a hurry.
I have a friend that fishes the Stick Marsh 3 or 4 days a week. He has lost two props, a transducer, bent several trolling motor shafts and had his lower unit welded twice, all this calender year, and he knows the place well!!!!!! An expensive place to fish but the rewards are sooooo gooooood! The first time I went with him he had 36 pounds best 5, and I had 28 pounds. We caught 37 fish, with 15 over 5 pounds and two over 9 pounds.. The big fish was 9.7 pounds. Not everyday is that good but many are! All catch and release 365 days a year and absolutely no tournaments. A special, special, fishery, and the state is about to double the size of the whole place. Future looks bright for the Stick Marsh for some time! If you go for the first time, dont run the boat hard, its a dangerous place.
#1 is actually my parents neighborhood pond. The term fish in a barrel must have come from there. :-)
The Potomac didn't make the top 100 fisheries "ON THE PLANET" !?!
Maybe having a tournament at National harbor has put a pin in their ballon.... what a bust that was
Or maybe the river is suffering from....
Small bags at the scales?
Too much pressure?
Too few ramps?
Too little area support?
Too few (no) hotels near ramps? The ones around here don't support boat recharging, and I'm told they don't like extension cords crossing walkways for insurance reasons.
Too little coordination of resources between jurisdictions? There's none actually.
I don't know

Excellent points fellas... world class spots, LM, and SM in the foothill lakes around here = some attention for sure. They sure love their trout and kokanee candy.
Another tragic deal...
I think it best we all keep our favorite fishing spots to our own.
Just my 2
