I only skimmed it, but I didn't see any sort of evidence at all

No evidence was provided. That's one heck of a story and plenty of names are mentioned. I guess they could corroborate.

I figured it probably did since there was something like that written about it but there have got to be pics or videos or something! What serious big bass fisherman doesn't take a camera?

the same kind that "forgot" their scale, and now a 3 pounder is a 7 pounder. Even if you don't have a camera, how many of todays cell phones can't take pictures???? lol
Pictures were taken, where are they?
TackleTour did an interview with this guy:
http://www.tackletour.com/reviewinterviewmattnewman.html
That's just crazy. I just wish there were pictures.
wait, is this guy a member of the forum?
QuoteWhat serious big bass fisherman doesn't take a camera?
I don 't.
I 'm not supersttious or anything like that but I 've found a trend, when I take the camera I don 't catch anything worth taking a picture of, when I don 't take the camera is when I catch something worth taking a picture but I got no camera. so, the camera satays at home.

I just don't take one
Unless someone else is with me and is the photo-taking type. I generally won't take a picture of a fish if it is under 6. So I can understand it, maybe they don't take pics unless it is over 10.

Yep, that's why you haven't seen all the pics of the 10lb PA bass that I catch each year.
This one time I caught 32 8lb fish in one day. I owe it all to the fact that I didnt have a camera to verify it. It was AWESOME. You should have been there...
:
It happened. Matt is a great guy and a hell of a fisherman
Oh well, you want proof ? one of those extra rare ocassions I caught something interesting and had a camera, no I didn 't take the picture at the lake, I took it at home before moving the fish to a pond. 23" L x 22" girth. 9.86 lbs at the butcher 's scales.
Nice fish.
How much did the "manny pack" weigh?
It's a satchel.
FYI by saying....
QuoteAwesome... The only thing that is missing are some pics!!!!!!!1
I wasnnt implying that it didnnt happen or that they are liars or anything like that i was just stating that i would love to see the pictures. Bass around here dont get bigger that 5-6lbs. So a story like that is amazing to me. Thats all
QuoteNice fish.
How much did the "manny pack" weigh?
Got no idea :-/, I had this old brick size Motorola cell phone and that was the only place where I could carry it along with the bunch of key sets I usually carry ( car keys, house keys, mom 's house keys, warehouse keys, garage keys ) so .... I suppose almost as heavy as the bass I 'm holding. ;D
So which big bass hunter doesn 't carry a camera ? I don 't, I 'm not the pic of everything kinda guy, that kind of electronics don 't tickle my fancy, same applies to cel phones n 'stuff like that. How you think I got the camera ? well I found this combo at Costco some years ago: PC ( the one I 'm typing this from ), scanner/copier and digital camera for ( if I remember right ) for around 1,300 dollars. Don 't tell me to blow the same amount of money in tackle cuz man, I do it all the time but for a good camera, pretty cell phone or something like that ---> no way Jos é.
but lots of these guys are sponsored dudes who go out looking for just a couple bites a day. And the narrative stated that he met up with several other guys on the lake at the end of the big-fish-bonanza. Someone must have had a camera.
BTW, you don't need a good camera to take an acceptable picture. It's also getting pretty difficult to even find a cell phone without a camera phone. You could spend very little money on either one that is capable of taking decent pictures.
ah the Matt Newman story. I have seen the pictures. I think it was in a Bass West article. Very impresive and I have no reason to doubt it. I have had a couple days where I found numerous big bass stacked up and we had epic days. Not nearly as many as Newman caught but enough to know that his day was possible. The pictures are out there.
Raul! Did you instruct that bass to "turn your head and cough" while taking this picture?
If work didn't get in the way I would on Castias today and hope to be there tomorrow, it's that time of year.
The wolf pack days on Casitas are gone for awhile, still possible to have 50 lb+ five bass limits however.
Matt Newman's catch was documented.
WRB
PS: Google Matt Newman, his article is in TT with pics.

It's a European carryall.

I have the same luck. Camera brought = fish caught not worth photographing, most of the time. There's always the cell phone camera. ;D

yes, to carry a whip, tools, and the occasional gold skull, not day to day items...
Dream about it?
I had a day like this just this weekend!
50 ten pound bass on 50 consecutive casts. Then I rode my unicorn home.
It happened, the pictures are out there. Buy my sponsors bait. :

IB, you gimme too much credit, don 't know how to operate them cell phones properly ( can barely dial ) and you want me to get a cell phone with camera , c 'mon ! . Last time I "played" with my Nextel buttons I erased all my directory.
QuoteWhat serious big bass fisherman doesn't take a camera?
Sometimes having a camera isn't even enough.
I weighed, measured, photographed and released my two largest bigmouth bass,
feeling happy and proud that I'd have them forever.
The negatives were on a 36-exposure film roll, so they remained in the camera
until the roll was fully exposed. Then, a couple weeks later we got caught in a quick downpour,
and by the time I realized my camera case was lying on the boat floor,
rainwater had seeped into the camera and obliterated the negatives :'(

I hope your not confusing Matt Newman with me. He was using a Huddleston which is a direct competitor of mine. By me saying I have seen the pics should add a little integrety to the story becuase he caught the fish on a competitors bait and I have absolutly nothing to gain.
I remember the title of the article. it was "California dreamin" and it was in a bass west magazine. There were many pictures. if I remember right there were 3 boats with full live wells and there was atleat one pic with several guys holding up numerous big bass. I dont think they held up all 28 but there was a bunch of them. He also took some greif for keeping over his limit and holding so many big bass in the wells but as far as know all the bass were fine. They were all released healthy and none were found later.
I am sure if anybody wanted to see the pics bad enough they could order a back issue of bass west.
I read the story and have to give the guys the benefit of the doubt. 33 years ago...am I that frigging old...I caught three nine pound bass on three consecutive casts so I know incredible and unbelievable things can happen.
