Spring Is Here!!!! 2024

fishing user avatarhoosierbass07 reply :

I know the real northern states may still get some bad weather but here in Indiana the weather forecast is calling for temps up in the lower 50s next week.  So we have one more week of cold weather and then it looks like it's going to start warming up in lower 40s to lower 50s.  I can't wait to get out my plastic lizards and Texas rig them and do some bass fishing once the ice melts!  No more ice fishing for me.

Bring on the spring time weather!  My crankbaits are ready, spinnerbaits are ready, now I have to get my early spring soft plastics ready.  I guess I will start out with small worms, lizards, and grubs and jigs.

Oh, and spring training baseball begins on Tuesday too!

 Bring on Spring!

fishing user avatarABW reply :

I'm going to try and get out next week too! Going to try throwing jerkbaits and gain confidence in those.

fishing user avatarbassinnoobie reply :

There snow here its NOT spring!

fishing user avatarbassinnoobie reply :

fishing user avatarWeld's Largemouth reply :

I plan to be out by march 23rd. The water will probably be unfrozen by then, hopefully.

you have the better situation by far

fishing user avatarbucky reply :

I plan on getting out late next week. Predicting 6 more inches snow Thursday, but next week temps above freezing and a couple days in high 50's. Bays are thawing now and only a couple days this week below freezing. May be too much stain for good jerkbait fishing, but they will be ready to bite something.

I'm near Terre Haute.  From the Weather Channel site:  March 3 (45/24), 4 (24/7), 5 (17/-2), 6 (34/16), 7 (43/21), 8 (43/27), 9 (44/26), 10 (49/30), and 10 (52/31).   Yeah, the ice will not be melted for most of the month but still - the temps are rising so I say we are in spring time!

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

The bass season opener here in Northern Lower Michigan is routinely the third Saturday in April.

There is a distinct possibility that this year, the lakes will still be frozen, Solid.

So Spring - not so much.

fishing user avatarpaul. reply :

More crappy weather here this week.  torrential rains tomorrow (up to 2" forecast) which means muddy water.  then the temp plummets again after that which means COLD muddy water.  UGH.

i'm SO over winter.  Bring on those blooming dogwoods.

fishing user avatarPenguino reply :

It still cold. But I plan on going fishing this wedsneday. See if the ice melted yet.

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

Near 60* tomorrow with 1-3 in of rain, then turning to snow, 3-5 in, with temps dropping to near 0* late in the week... Ohio River Valley weather for ya.. 3 years ago today, A f-4 touched down, 1/2 mile from my home and ran about 55 miles... You never know around here on weather...

fishing user avatarplumworm reply :

Ya, spring is here but not "here" Tomorrows forecast : 4-6 in. of snow and tomorrow nights temps. dipping to zero. 10+ for Wed. and Thurs. and up to a whapping almost 30 for the weekend. "We got to get  out of this place if it's the last thing we ever do"

Soft water>hard water 100% of the time.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Not so fast, my friend, as Lee Corso would say.

Check this out for this week.

You can "Like" on Facebook or go to this guy's blog, wxrisk.com

He is usually correct far in advance of the local TV and radio weather reports.

Enjoy!

BEST/ heaviest snow from north central TN ..KY into WVA ...8 to 12" in that area ... and 6-10" over far Northern VA MD most of DEL southeast PA/ Philly most of central and southern NJ NYC

Big dry slot over all fo SW VA that seems to be expanding into the southern Piedmont. Geez, now they ( Weather ) are stating 1 foot of snow for me! I don't know which is worse.. A foot of snow, followed by Arctic air, or Super cell's,lol

fishing user avatarRSM789 reply :

Hey, even one of the beach's here in Southern California was covered in white stuff yesterday, although it was hail & not snow. Google "Huntington Beach snow" for pictures

However, it all melted in about an hour or so, it will reach the mid 60's today and this weekend the full moon will most likely have pulled the big females up on the nests. Well, at least I felt your pain for about 60 minutes...

fishing user avatarhoosierbass07 reply :

My three ice fishing adventures did not turn out so good.  Drill one hole and nothing, drill another and nothing, drill another and nothing.  I kept thinking - man, if only this ice were gone and I could get out my Texas rigged worms.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

76 partly cloudy, winds 20-25 mph, prefrontal!

fishing user avatarRipzLipz reply :

The fat bottomed girls are knocking on the hard water, ready for a crustacean buffet. Probably not this weekend, but I'm hoping the forecast holds and maybe the weekend after it'll be ready. Time to get the jig box organized.

fishing user avatarCameron211 reply :

I live in indiana too and don't jinx us lol. You know how it can change on a dime. Hopefully not though. But ive seen snow in April. Thanks for being positive hoosierbass:-)

fishing user avatarplumworm reply :

It's easy to turn ice fishing in to real fishing. Get a good chain saw with a 24" bar and cut a hole 100'x 3' . Haul out the ice and chop it up in to cubes, add a good old whiskey and enjoy while you set up a Carolina rig. You don't need to cast, just walk the lizard down to the end of the hole and drag it back. Repeat both whiskey and "cast" until one of two things happens, you catch a fish and spent the rest of the day toasting your success or you don't catch a fish and spend the day wallowing in your despair while using up the ice you cut and the whiskey you bought to celebrate your anticipated success. P.S. Have a DD with you.

No. You have not felt our pain. Not even close.

Hey, it was kinda close.  I even got wet from the rain & had to put on a jacket, that is real suffering.  People around here were scared to venture outdoors, what with the temperatures plummeting into the high 40's.  Very life threatening...

fishing user avatarDrKnew reply :

Having recently moved to the great state of Kentucky from Minnesota, I can't help but be amazed at how the folks here are almost in a panic when snow or cold happens.....In those conditions that northern tier states carry on as normal, the southern counterparts close schools , and many buisnesses , in a near state of emergency.

LOL, I know what your saying.. But.. Some years are very mild, then, you have more difficult years, Kentucky has a poor reputation about rolling the dice as far as snow removal equipment and money allocation goes. The Rugged terrain (dramatic changes in elevation and often) compound these issues. I believe in the northern regions of the US, snow, ice, cold is as certain in the winter, as it is uncertain in Ky. It HAS to be a way of life in your prior state. At anyrate, I can understand how it appears laughable... Go UK! Undefeated Baby!!

As far as winter goes here in MA, it's all over but the shouting! With mid to upper 40's during the day light hours, the high sun angle and my refusal to listen to anything else, spring is right around the corner! :)

It is above freezing for the first time in 37 day calendar days and in less than a week we stay above freezing!!

Speaking of the high sun angle, Iv'e noticed the high sun angle too the last week and we have had more sunny days.  Plus, I noticed the squirrels are running all around the back yard the last week like a switch was turned on and they are getting ready for spring.

Pretty aggressive.  I'm hoping the ice is gone by April 1st, though I'm not holding my breath.  It'd be better if you were right....  good luck.

Here's a picture of the bay where I live.  BTW, that's Boston in the background.  Yep, Spring isn't far away....
