WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS

When all else fail I'm going to double down on heavy cover with whatever lure I deem necessary. Usually a texas rig .

fishing user avatarStalking bass reply :

Sieberts custom jig and a rage craw trailer

Senko

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

PLASTICS!  ????

I'm a Bottom Feeder!

Once the boat comes down off of plane the first thing I grab is a Texas Rig, Wacky Rig, Shaky Head Weightless T-rig, Carolina Rig, Jig-N-Craw, Mojo Rig, Rage Rig, Drop Shot or anything that takes me to the bottom.

I'm gonna be casting, flipping, pitching, punching, hopping, dragging, shaking, dead sticking, or skipping.

I don't care if its grass, brush, timber, rocks, docks, pads, lay downs, shore line or off shore.

I don't care if its pre- spawn, spawn, post spawn, summer, dog days, fall, winter, morning, noon, or night.

Give me 2 rod-n-reels with any of the above techniques & I be happy, happy, happy!

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

Right now it's a Cordell Super Spot.

fishing user avatarNittyGrittyBoy reply :

T-rig or jig/craw trailer. Color depends on conditions, but absolutely my go-to after I kvd power fish the area haha!

Topwater

fishing user avatarHappybeerbuzz reply :

Keitech Easy Shiner on a darter jig head.  I first start with a 4” and move to a 3” if that fails.

fishing user avatarLog Catcher reply :

Zoom centipede has saved me many times.

fishing user avatarArmtx77 reply :

I fish a lot of small rivers and lakes, either wading/bank/kayak.

I start with a Keitech 2.8 FAT Swim Impact(white/pearl)on a 1/16oz single mono jig. I will swim it a couple of times and than jig it a few times, than finish with a erratic retrieve.

Since I typically only carry one rod, when not in the yak. I like the versatility of the swim bait. Im a mixed bag kind of guy, so if brim and paper mouthes want to get involved...fine by me.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

I have go-to baits for situations and seasons, but not a one size fits all bait that I throw aimlessly at all times.

I am not going to throw a lightly weighted 4" finesse worm in 35 feet of water in howling winds, just like I am not going to throw a 3/4oz. football jig into a shallow water laydown surrounded by matted grass.....even though both are "go-to" baits for me.

Everything I have is a go-to or it wouldn't be in my boat.

This is like asking a car mech. what his go-to tool is....and his response is "a hammer".

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

Fluke

fishing user avatarN Florida Mike reply :

I agree there are a lot of tools out there you need to fix a car. But to catch a bass my go to bait goes back and forth between a zoom super fluke and a 4 inch senko.( This is based on where I fish primarily ) ????

In all seriousness, I have a " Circle of trust", which are more trusted baits (tools ) that I use that catch fish. But the 2 above consistently catch me the most fish ,with some quality fish in the mix. Last year I caught an 8.6 on a 4 inch senko. And a couple months ago my son caught an 8.2 on a zoom fluke. So it's not just about numbers!

fishing user avatarriverbasser reply :

@ww2farmer  a jig is my hammer!

fishing user avataryosef reply :

Texas rigged baby brush hog sprayed grass ...go to for Clearwater lakes in nh

fishing user avatarJawjaBoy reply :

Texas rigged worm, usually 8" Gillraker or Zoom MagII in Green Pumpkin or June Bug.  Weight varies.  If I can't catch SOMETHING with one of those I'm probably better off cutting the grass!

fishing user avatarGlaucus reply :

Ponds: Wacky Rigged 5" Senko in Green Pumpkin with Black Flake, followed by a Texas Rigged Original Trick Worm in Watermelon with Red Flake weighted with a 1/16oz bullet weight.

Rivers: Lil' Mr. Money 3/16oz Strike King Spinnerbait, followed by the Whopper Plopper 90 and 110 in Bone.

That little Spinnerbait always does me well, and it also landed me my PB LMB, weighing in at 7lbs.

fishing user avatarAggieBassin10 reply :

Got to love me a weedless rigged 5" swimbait. Seems to get great production down here in Texas

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

Most definitely a 5" YUM Dinger Texas rigged, weightless.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Plastic, any plastic.

As long as it's plastic

When all else fails I go to live bait. Nightcrawler or shiner.

If they aren't eating live stuff it wasn't meant to be.

fishing user avatarDSTN reply :

I literally never start the day with my spinning rod and Ned Rig in my hands but the majority of the time I end the day that way.

fishing user avatarMr Swim Jig reply :

Swim jig...

Same here, but usually weightless tossed at every piece of wood cover I can find.

Also, a frog in the lilies and weeds right before sundown.
