Today an amazing idea has sparked in my brain and it will be beneficial to all anglers, experienced and new.
In this thread i will keep count of how many fish have been caught on each type of lure (spinnerbait, worm, topwater frog, etc.)
I will post the lure categories below and the count next to them.
Whenever you catch a fish on one of these types of lures post here how many fish you caught and what lure category. (no past fish please)
If the fish is heavier than the current record fish for that lure catergory, please include the weight (lbs, oz) and length (inches) so i can update it as the record for that lure catergory
If i am missing a category please quote me and let me know.

I will make the first entry, this is how you should format it as well
creature bait soft plastic (baby brush hog) : 2 fish, biggest = 2lb 14oz, 18.5 inches
spinnerbait (booyah) : 4 fish, biggest - 4lb 3oz, 21.5 inches
jerkbait (Strikeking KVD): 1 fish, biggest 0lb 15oz, 14 inches
worm soft plastic (senko): 2 fish, biggest 3lb 12oz, 19 inches
topwater frog (lunker hunt lunker frog): 1 fish, 1lb 8oz, 15 inches
spinnerbait (war eagle) : 11 fish, biggest - 3lb 8oz, 18.5 inches
jerkbait (x-rap) : 2 fish, biggest - 2lb 12oz, 17 inches
Not a chance I'm keeping track of every fish I catch, just don't have the patience to do it. I did fish for about 30 minutes a couple days ago and caught 4, 2 biggest were both in the 2lb range, one on a wacky rigged Senko, the other on the smallest size Pop R.
Last time I kept track of the number of fish I caught was 2 years ago. I ended the year with nearly 3,000 bass caught. It was enough just to keep track of numbers, no way I could get myself to weigh, measure, and record what I caught every fish on

Seriously. I don't even weigh or measure my fish, if I got the hook out fast I'll take a pic sometimes but my first priority is to return them to the water asap. It's just fishing. Making a science out of it is just too much like work, even for my inner enginerd.
Oh my ! I can't even remember my phone number.

I measure and weigh every bass over 12 inches. It's just my thing. I record them in excel and I have a big list and I can see patterns of what lure, conditions or time of year is most productive

you better work on that

It doesn't take long to measure and weigh, its an extra 20 or 15 seconds. The hook isnt hard to get out, doesnt take long unless you let the bass choke it in his throat

Neither could Albert Einstein.
Like others I do not have the discipline or patience to measure and weigh most fish. The bait that catches the most fish is the one you get in front of the most fish. As simple as that sounds, I believe it to be absolutely true. This year my go-to bait is a t-rigged smallie beaver pitched to grass. Last year it was a chatterbait. The year before it was a wacky rigged Senko/knock-off. The year before...maybe a jig. The key is finding fish. What is far less important than where.
This would be difficult due to the uncontrolled variables of your experiment. How many cast, date and time and structure all would change the effectiveness of each lure. This is why there is no number 1 lure. One day, at a certain time, in a specific cover any lure can be the ticket. The op has a great idea but the accuracy of the experiment would require extremely thorough record keeping to control the many test variables.
In the topwater frog category it says 11.5lbs- 15". Must have been a fatty!

The bellly must have been huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you will find that over time you will get worms, spinnerbaits, jigs as #1 and #2 #3
crankbaits jerkbaits arent far behind but are more situational
Worm soft plastics will dominate this list.

For me it isn't discipline it's the lack of desire. The time it takes to measure, weigh, record and photograph a small fish I could be making a cast that may yield something special. I have marks on my rods @ 20" and 25", that gives me a good estimate. I would say my most prolific bass bait is a senko, but my least used. Other lures are more exciting, more fun and more challenging for me.
SirSnook I will edit my earlier post by saying I am also talking about good quality fish. I could catch more fish at times on other baits. Most of the time I am not really interested in catching a lot of small fish unless one of the grandkids is along. A small t-rigged worm, a light jig and 2-3" grub, or a 4-5" wacky Senko would probably be my choice if just catching any bass was the mission.
Never silly, 15" girth = approx 4 1/2 lb LMB bass, your 15" girth bass would be about 10" long.On 7/25/2014 at 10:23 AM, Weld said:u bein silly WRB

Tom
T-rigged culprit 7.5 curly tail tomato color= this week 8 fish 3.55 19.5 was biggest 3 others over 2.5 under 3
Chatterbait bluegill color super fluke trailer= 2 fish biggest was 2.7 18 inches
I hunted ducks with a guy that kept such statisic. I don't hunt with him anymore.
1/2 oz. Black and Blue Jig (Siebert Outdoors) = 5lb 1oz. / 21 inches
I wouldn't have a problem counting how many fish I catch on each lure, if I recorded it here each time I fished, although on a really good day my count might be off by about a fish or two. But I only weigh bass if my eyeball estimate tells me it's over 2 pounds, and I never measure them. I just hate having fish out of the water for very long at all. Even if it was my PB, it would quickly go and the scale, I'd snap maybe two pics and get it back in the water real quick.
That being said, if I catch anything next week when I have time to fish, I'll try to remember to report the numbers.
In my little computer is an Excel spread sheet with 20+ years of the same information gathered from tournament results,
Sharelunker & fun fishing reports.
Plastics lead the pack by a margin of 6-1 over all other lures combined
