Your favorite Jerkbait??? 2024

fishing user avatarU.W BronzeBack Hunter reply :

I planning on stocking up on some more jerkbaits for the next prespawn and summer.  What do you guys recommend i get?  I'm mainly a smallmouth hunter, but i occasionally target for LMB too, so any jerkbaits from the 2 1/2 '' - 4'' will suffice (nothing too big or too finesse).

thx  ;D

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I have a fairly extensive collection, but fish very few.

My three favorites are: Lucky Craft Pointer 100, Baby

Bass;  Rapala Husky Jerk HJ10, Silver Blue;  Rapala

X-Rap XR08, Glass Ghost.

8-)

fishing user avatarMALTESE FALCON reply :

Here on St. Clair, these are my most productive jerkbait/slashbaits:

Rapala X-Rap size XR08 3 1/4" & XR10 4"

Bomber Long A 4 1/2"

XCalibur Xt3 Twitchbait 3 1/8"

Alot of people like the Lucky Craft Pointer, but I honestly catch more on my X-Raps.

Falcon

fishing user avatarBass Dude reply :

For smallies (at least here in the Northeast), it's hard to beat an X-Rap in the usual colors.  Plus, they cast really well.  I've had good success with the Husky Jerks too, but a lot of guys don't like them.  I do find they are a little hard to throw on baitcasting gear, so I usually throw them on spinning.  I've had a lot of success on the Lucky Craft Pointers too, but there are a TON of pike and pickeral in the lakes up here that like to steal them from you, so I don't throw them as much.

I HATE PIKE!!!!!!!! >:)

fishing user avatarMNBassguy reply :

Dont forget about Smithwick Rattlin rogue!

fishing user avatarKowen117 reply :

X-rap you can't go wrong X-rap X-rap ;D ;D 8-)

fishing user avatardrmnbig reply :

Another vote here for the Smithwick Rattling Rogue!  I use both floating and suspending models.  One of my favorite colors is black back, gold sides and silver belly.  The largemouth tear it up in the spring.

fishing user avatarCFFF 1.5 reply :

Smithwick Rattlin' Rogue Suspending.

fishing user avatarTin reply :

You can't beat a Smithwick for shallow jerkbaiting. It may look a little big but even 10" fish have no problem choking it down. If you find aggressive prespawn fish on a wind-blown area, it is the only bait you need.

fishing user avatarVA BassHound reply :

My favorite is the Rapala Husky Jerk Model HJ08: 3-1/8"; 1/4 oz Silver

fishing user avatarBronzefly reply :

MB visions, pointers, and rogues - there's one for every occasion!

fishing user avatarJake. reply :

Pointers by far.

fishing user avatarTournyFish001 reply :

around here this none better than the LC Staysee for smallmouth

fishing user avatarejtaylor822 reply :

Rapala  -  X-Raps (preferred) and Husky jerks.  Also picked up a bunch of Yozuri's at Dicks on sale that are pretty nice as well.

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

Long lean redhead in a litttle black dress, they certainly catch a lot of jerks :)

fishing user avatarfathom reply :

any of the pointers in american shad.

fishing user avatarsenko_77 reply :

Spro McStick.  This bait slays

fishing user avatarRobbyZ5001 reply :

Pointer... might just be a confidence thing.

fishing user avatarDADto4 reply :

Smithwick suspending rogue black back, silver middle, gold belly.

fishing user avatardjmax22 reply :

LC Pointer 100SP

LC Staycee 90

fishing user avatarbassboy1 reply :

I use mostly X-raps and Pointers.  Been having a couple X-raps fall apart, but I have been told that if I send them back, they will ship me new ones, so I am collecting a stockpile of busted ones.  So, for fun fishing, it is fine, but after loosing a fish in a tourney, I am skeptical about throwing them over the pointers during Ts.  Like the look and action of the X-rap better though.

Picked up a Diawa DB minnow with my last *** order.  Anyone any experience with those?

fishing user avatarjig reply :

smithwick suspending rogue has never let me down. The only one i use

fishing user avatarspotaholic reply :

It's hard to beat many of the baits that have been listed. My personal favorite is a TD Minnow SP in the yellow spot color. I catch a bunck=h of fish on the jerkbait in all types of condition. Very effective during schooling times in the summer and in the winter for fish that are suspending.

Are yours like mine and have most of the paint missing? :) Yellow spots when the sun is out and olive back when it is cloudy.

fishing user avatarspotaholic reply :

Yep...My chrome is GONE but it still catches fish. I will have her ready in the AM for some jerkbait action.

In my opinion the Classic Rogue that was released after KVD won the classic is the best warm water jerkbait ever. Go with LC staysee 90sp and pointer 128 before the spawn.

fishing user avatarBrad_Coovert reply :

My favorite jerkbaits are the Pointer 78 and 100, Staysee 80 and 90 and the McStick from SPRO.

Best colors for me are Chartreuse Shad, Ghost Minnow and American Shad.

Brad

fishing user avatarDwight Hottle reply :

For price  you can't beat the Smithwick suspending rogue. Rapala husky jerk & xrap work well. I also love using LC pointer 128SP :), pointer 100 DD & staysee 90 SP.

fishing user avatarBassNub reply :

X-Rap

just love how it twirl and dances and the long suspending pauses I can do.

fishing user avatarTheBeast reply :

Burley

Oh, you said jerkbait not jerk.

Then I will go with a black/gold rapal #6.

fishing user avatarPrimus reply :

Some of my favorites would include X Raps, Husky Jerks & Pointers. A couple of my lesser known but just as deadly weapons would include the HMKL K-1 minnow, Jackall DD sqirrel & Mask. One that I tried last year that shows a lot of promise is the IMA Flit. The one that I think is the most underated is the Lucky Craft Flash minnow, this would be the one that I would use in place of a Roque when I want a bigger shallow running jerkbait.

fishing user avatarharuan hunter reply :

Xraps and Pointers seem to fill in all the blanks in the jerkbait department for me. All you need to do is a hook change and add water...

I see no reason to change the VMC hooks on either of these lures.

fishing user avatarfathom reply :

remembered one more...original rapala floater in silver/black.

killer #1 in my panic box.

fishing user avatarTrippyJai reply :

If the LC one'd didn't cost me $20, it would be my favourite so I have to go with the X-Raps.

The VMC's are strong and sharp- no question but Gamakatsu stingers seem to set better or it could just be a confidence thing...

fishing user avatarLCpointerKILLA reply :

POINTER 100 and 78 hands down
