Where does this company get off naming it's lure colors white trash, penetration, and dirty sanchez? I'm young and quite liberal, but I am still put off by this. If you don't know what a dirty sanchez is, don't look it up at work, shoot, you're better off not looking it up at all really.
I don't know, I'm sure that the owner is a great guy, but why risk so much on this type of image?
maybe cuz some people such as myself find it kind of amusing.

I never heard of any of those lures and none are listed on the company's web site. He does have a bait called D.S. Creature. I did look it up, by the way, and it's also a TV Series and a band name.
Reaction Innovations truly has some different and clever names. They are offensive to some and I've seen a few posts by guys who refuse to buy their products because they're offended by one thing or another.
It's my personal, fact-free opinion, that the huge interest in and success of the Sweet Beaver is more due to its name; otherwise, it's just another hunk of plastic, although it's a good lure, as are hundreds of other plastics.
Those are colors. Not lure types.
It's different I guess, and that's important in the endless sea of soft plastics. I'm not going to boycott their products or anything, shoot, I plan to pick up a couple of packs of their big mother flipper flipping hooks next time I go to the tackle shop.
There just won't be any penetration or dirty sanchez on my boat.
I'm sure it's a calculated business decision on their part. I'd say the provocative images, packaging, names, colors, etc. get them a lot of business, but I know for a fact that it costs them a ton. On balance, I'd say it hurts them.
heck, just look at the lack of pros that promote them. I'm sure most of the touring pros don't want their name associated with them.
Bass Pro Shops will not carry their brands beacause of the image issue. Imagine how many Sweet Beavers (huh?), Ball Breakers, Vixens, etc. that BPS could have sold in the last three years or so since that the Sweet Beaver came out.
To me, they have gone too far with much of it, but I still buy some of their stuff.
QuoteThere just won't be any penetration or dirty sanchez on my boat.
Good for you. At least you're concentrating on your fishing!
Good times. I never thought I'd have to clarify that!
You'll like those BMF hooks, you will not bend them. They are super tough.
Andre does have some interesting names for his baits and colors, but they are still good products.
Besides, the fish don't know a thing about any of that stuff.
Brad
One thing to keep in mind, you didn't forget the names or the company that makes them. I think the names are a little out there and amusing at the same time. I can't wait for the day to have a fishing partner on my boat and I catch a fish on one. The look on their face when I tell them it was caught on a Vixen in Dirty Sanchez will be priceless.
Not so many years ago the sweet beaver was as hot as the Chatterbait a year ago and the Basstrix swimbait this year. The company couldn't keep up with production and they were selling on ebay for crazy amounts of money. Fisherman didn't care what the color names were as long as they were catching fish and cashing checks. Now there are more knockoffs of the bait then you can count. They could call the basstrix swimbaits anything they want but people will still buy them.
QuoteI'm young and quite liberal, but I am still put off by this.
;D ;D I'm not sure if I fit the young or old category but I will undoubtedly fall into the "very conservative" category! Until I found ***, I bought them and re-bagged R.I. in ziplocks. They are great baits, no doubt.
The reality is that we are talking about them right now... if the colors were listed the same way as the Zoom colors are, we wouldn't be talking about them. I think that (even though I don't like the names) this helps more than it hurts from a marketing perspective.

Definitely
Where does he get off naming these things?
Its all a marketing plan and you fell for it. Your talking about them right? It gets his companies name out there and people hear about it. can you say "free advertising"? He is a good businessman and if it works I don't care what its called I'll use it. wait I do you them. I like the "Mini skirt" and the smallie beaver in "road kill"
Well, it's still a double edged sword. As mentioned, he'll never get a major pro to put their name behind these things. Of course, with enough buzz, he probably won't need a big name anyway.
I agree that we are talking about them right now so it must not hurt that much. I'm conservative on a lot a things and liberal on many. However, I just can't see not using a product because of its name. You might not like it, granted, but to be so uptight that you wouldn't have it on your boat. By all means thats your perogative if you so choose, but you mean to tell me that none of your buddy's let out a cuss word on the boat every now and then. For the record I wouldn't be opposed to penetration on my boat once I have one ;D.
Bob, once i re-read the post I realized that the use of the word you came across as directed at you and you only. Please realize that the you's in the post are meant for anyone that refuses to use certain products b/c of the name. I
Quotemaybe cuz some people such as myself find it kind of amusing.
x2 I could careless what its named, as long as it catches fish, thats all that matters to me.
major pro?!?!?
You mean like an Elite angler? Like maybe Ish Monroe?
Whats wrong with the penetration color? Maybe YOU are the one adding the negative connotation to that color?
Personally I think its funny.

You were one step ahead of me to the post and Ish won the Battle on the Boarder the year before last using there baits.
Thanks for the swimbait advice. I'm heading to Amistad friday for our state qual. tournament. I will have some R.I. baits in the boat with all the sexual, disturbing, funny and twisted names. Some of the names get me so worked up I just might need to jump the boarder and get a good lap dance. ;D ;D
Its smart. There are thousands of soft plastic baits out there. for every good design there are a thousand knockoffs. He chose differnt names and it works. If he aint getting big pros(which he is) its not because of image or reputation. Its because he is competing with Berkley, Zoom, Yum, Robo etc. It would be hard for a newer soft plastic CO. to get any of the big names unless they through a lot of money at them. NOBODY is going to think bad of an angler because he uses a worm called penetration or any other racy name. Nobody cares. Now I can see a few people not using the product because of the names but if sombody has a problem with a pro using one of those baits then they have issues. If they are bitting a dirty sanchez colored worm then Thats the color I'm using.
I have no problem with Andre's product or color names. I caught many bass on his Sweet Beavers, and especially in the Penetration and Dirty Sanchez colors.
I think it's funny to see the look on somebody's face when they hear the names of the baits.
Since I've been using *** more, I probably won't be buying any more R.I. baits, but it's not because of the names of the baits.
Falcon
A couple of you beat me to the Ish Monroe statement, but also Andre is a pretty big name on the FLW side himself. I mean he has won multiple times on Beaver Lake (Could have been an inpiration for the naming of the Sweet Beaver, but I doubt it. haha).
I just pulled their website and the Pro Staff has some pretty heavy hitters on it including Matt Heren, JT Kenney, and Fred Roumbanis just to name a few. They aren't KVD or Ike but they all have won tournaments and have promising careers or already established careers.
Bottom line is that they are innovative baits that catch a ton of fish. I mean Zoom probably hated when the Sweet Beaver came out because if it hadn't we would all be throughing the Brush Hog still.
IMHO, RI has some great products. I have used them for some time and not to many people around here use them or heard of them. That's fine with me.

MAN UP!!!
You get dirter junk off TV ads every day. I can only watch the Cartoon channel with my grandsons because of some of the "adult-oriented" crap that has apparently become the "norm."
So THAT's where they got the name 'Sweet Beaver'................

Fine, if you think smearing dodo on peoples upper lips is cool, then that's cool. I'm just a guy with an opinion, and I'm not selling out to catch a fish.

There is nothing wrong with your opinion. I too have problems with there stuff. I also have problems with the way a lot of things are going these days though. So your not alone man.

Assumingly, you posted here because you are looking for opinions or suggestions to your problem. I already gave you mine.
If you have a problem w/ their advertising, don't buy their product.
You said, "Why risk so much on this type of image?". It's called target marketing. In fact, I just placed an order for some of their sweet beavers. So, in essence, you just helped promote and sell something you are completely against.
Have a nice day

No, I posted to express my opinion. I don't have a "problem." I am fully capable of making purchasing decisions on my own, and I take pride that I am picky where my money goes. It's my own little vote on what I think is good.
i wish more guys felt like you around here and would boycott so i could make more money
Brent,
Why don't you beat Reactions to the punch and come up with a hot carl color ;D.
Your a funny guy Bobby K.
Whats in a name if it catches fish ill buy it. I own some of the sweet beavers and other so its no big deal to me but to each his own.

If it is offensive to you, don't buy it. I like the names of their colors. How about California 420? Why don't you look that one up Curious George?
P.S. You're voting for Hilary Clinton, right?
In Bob's defense, even though I don't agree with him, he never suggested that anyone that buys the stuff is going to hell or anything liek that. Cut him a little slack. The post was worded as just stating an opinion, not as an attack. Lets give him the same courtesy.
