any whopper plopper fans?. is it worth adding to ones topwater arsenal?. just ordered myself a 90 size in Chubby color
Yes. Used it last year.
Caught a few. Fun watching them hit it and miss it.
ya, its good
just another tool
It's popular out here on the west coast. Really easy to use topwater lure, just cast and retrieve, and you can cast it a mile. Worth adding especially if you feel lazy and don't feel like actively working a topwater.
I just ordered two size 130 in bone and loon colors since I had a gift card from Christmas. They seem to be a great tool to have in your bag and a lot of people tend to have success with them.

I found that the 90 is easily submerged in choppy water. The 130 stays on top better and makes a lot more commotion.
I like them, but do yourself a favor and get the 130. It's a much better bait than the 90 IMO.

dang. wish ida asked this advice before i ordered but yea ill grab a 130 in another color
I use one all the time during topwater season....
I picked up a couple 90's but havent been able to fish them yet. I looked at the 130's but they just seemed too big for any bass in my area.
I've read that the O-rings and hooks should be replaced. Does anybody know if that is true of the 130, or just the 90?
I bought a 90 for the pond and a 130 for the lake..
What colors are you all recommending for clear water?
That style of bait has been cAtching fish for a long time. Def good to have
Two baits in one, buzzbait and a walking bait. Hence u don't actually walk it but it floats like a walking bait. So u can fish it like a buzzbait and then stop it and let it sit. Excellent bait IMO, I usually buy a white/bone, black and a natural colored one matching the forage in your lake. Unless your lake is always stained to muddy than ditch the natural colored one.

I have used the 130. The hooks were sticky sharp and the rings appeared solid. If you are chasing musky or big pike I would ABSOLUTELY change them out to XXS hooks and XS rings, but the stock are just fine for bass.

Natural (perch, sexy shad, or rat-tat-tat) for cloudy days, and clear for sunny days. I think they call their clear "phantom" or something like that.

Thanks Kevin. And for the record I thought joining this website was going to be a good thing but really it just makes me realize the lures I need to buy

Same
I bought one, can't wait to use it. Snowed all afternoon here. May never get to use it at this point. >:(
They are good baits for sure. Def like the 130 size over the 90. It is the type of bait that you want to make a big disturbance with and it attracts the big ones. I have the loon color and have been catching some lately on it. Decent ripple on the water and overcast doesnt hurt. Bass here right now are in all phases of spawn and it seems to make them mad.

I don't think it really matters but FWIW I use the Shad 130 for smallies in water with consistent 5+ feet of visibility.
So if I already have a 130 and the big one for Musky, is it worth it to get the smaller one for calmer days and the overall smaller size of WI bass? I know small fish will hit a bigger lure, but that isn't a numbers game, also some times of the year the smaller size would match the forage better. Or just stick with what I have and spend my money on something else? Really haven't read from anyone that the 90 sticks at least some fish, just the downfalls of the bait.
Speaking from experience with WI and MN use with wopper ploppers... If there is a pike within 100 yards of you, he is going to hit it. The 90 is going to get snipped in a second. The 90 doesn't really make sense to me honestly. The wopper plopper is a BIG FISH BAIT. The 130 is a big fish size. The 90 is a "numbers" size in a big fish bait. If numbers is the target then a spook or buzzbait is the bait of choice.
Got one in MTB March box and first cast I suspended the plopper over a branch and boom a bass. This bait is so versiatle and it is like buying a 3 in one bait. You can work the bait like a spook, buzzbait, and popper. From past expirences with other poppers this bait gives an easy to use popping nosie that is amazing. When you pop the plopper it sounds like you are cupping your hands and clapping them together. The MTB gave a 90 version and I had such a great expirence with this bait I have already ordered the 130 version.

I've seen the 90 catch plenty of fish and some will tell you the opposite. I think they both have have their place depending on the situation. I think the 130 is easier to fish.
my buddy was fishing a 90 in a pond not too long ago so i was able to see the action on it. i really liked it! it's like a buzzbait that you can stop and go! i'll end up with one (or more) in the tacklebox before long....

Have you seen the tail on the plopper isn't it awsome
I have both the 90 and 130 and both work great for me, I do throw the 130 more often though.

I'm going to give the 130 a try this season, but I'll probably use the hand-tied leader with 20# fluorocarbon. They've saved a lot of lures for me during those times when the pike are going nuts. I pre-tie them and then just swap them out when they get nicked. I've never once had a pike saw through one of them.
Obviously, it'll alter the action a bit on a topwater, but we'll see what happens.
Its my absolute favorite topwatter lure at the moment. I love the action an the fish I'v been around love it an there is no beter way to catch them then on topwatter. an living in the southeastwith nothing but blue back hearing lakes around I'm use to throwing spooks an pencil popers an other "schooling baits" an I can get wait to start chucking the wopper plopper at them when they move back out for the summer an start schooling. as of rn I'm catching them on it during the spawnnothing big but I am fishing in ponds but I know it'll catch them on the lake just the same.
Buddy got one in the MTB and is doing well with it in spring 60* water
I've seen a friend use one and they catch the hell out of them.
Just ordered one... read the article in Bass Times and saw a video with Ish. Better be good for $18.
Have any of you guys tried the PH Custom Lures Crazy Ace? It seems very similar. It floats on top, has a propeller on the back, a popping style mouth, and can be burned, popped, walked, walked, buzzed, etc.
I bought a few whopper poppers, I haven't yet tried them, they seem to be a similar concept, except they probably leave a bigger bubble trail or louder buzzing sound. The PH Crazy ace doesn't have as big a propeller, but it leans side to side a bit as you retrieve to give the bait an extra motion. Any thoughts or comparisons?

I just checked it out on TW and it's much smaller with the largest size at 1/2oz. and 2-3/4". The Whopper Plopper 90 is 5/8oz. and 3" and the 130 is 1.38oz. and 5".
Tried both the 90 and 130 size. I like the 90, but you have to hold your rod up and reel faster on the smaller size to get the same action. Had no takers, but it was extremely windy and maybe not the best conditions for topwater. So, for now just another tool in the box.
