I wanted to share with you one of my favorite days of fishing ever. I had one of those trips where if I wouldn't have brought my camera, no one would have believed me. I was fishing top water poppers when an explosion of 20+ bass began busting the surface right beside my boat. They were knocking shad 4 feet out of the water. I caught several bass on a popper over 5 pounds and this trip will be remembered as long as I live!
Russ, pretty awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Would have loved to been out there too!
Holy cow man, that's amazing. Good times!
Cool! Had something similar happen last year on G'ville during a tourney. Had 2 fish in the well an hour before weigh in. Saw the shad busting the surface and caught my last 3 keepers and culled the 2 that were in the well in a matter of 1/2hr.
Awesomeness
Great video, that never happens up north. Never seen bass busting on top like that before. I`ve seen it Striper fishing at Raystown Lake, and in the ocean.
That is so d**n cool to see fish busting shad like that. This reminds me of fishing for Hybrids/Stripers the way they were feeding. To see a 6-7lb hybrid bust the surface, it sounds like a gian toilet bowl is being flushed
Awesome vid
What camera were you using to make the video? Looks like you had a "hatcam" going. Thanks for sharing BW.
Great vid. Looks like too much fun.
Will still be a month or two here in Virginia before the bass move deep and bust the shad schools like that.

This is so true. I've seen a fish or two bust like that up here in the north, but never in a school that size. Maybe it is just our PA lakes?
Exactly what happened to Jason Christie in the Elite series last tournament. He went from 11th to 1st on last day bc of same scenario bass happened to be busting shad all around him. Think he ended up with 18lbs+ in first few hours of his day.
thats is awesome!
wow very lucky to have that i love topwater action even if you miss all your hits its still excellent to see them busting

That is exactly what happened. The kid is HOT!
Awesome!
that is crazy
Very cool, congrats
I love it when they are busting bait-fish like that!
Did you get frustrated when they were smacking the bait-fish and they weren't hitting your top water popper? I have found that if you have a sub-surface lure like a fluke or little george as well as a topwater on hand it can help you dial in on what they want. I remember one time using a spook as the water was boiling around me with fish and they didn't hit, until I switched to a small double willow spinner-bait.
One of the coolest videos I've seen. Thanks for sharing!
OMG how awesome !!!!!!!!
Amazing. Never see that in New York.
That is a dream come true! By the way, how do you like that 175 TXW? I've got the exact same boat.
Thanks for bringing the camera, that was a great video. I noticed the suface bubbles remained intacted, sign of a good top water bite.
Oh man! I woulda shipped pants, AND my kayak!

I have the 19' version, or PT190, and I love it. Plenty of room and I don't mind if I bump into a log or scratch it a little.
its kinda funny reading all the comments. i been fishing many times and the fish will start schooling like that. it seems too happen a little more in the spring and fall. also the lakes i fish on are the ozark highland lakes ( like bull shoals where christie just won). must be a regional thing or something because by looking at the comments and there location all the guys up north have never seen this. seems weird to me lol.
South FLA- very guide advice, i have several times when they wont hit a spook and u can catch them on a lipless crank burned through the school. also a lot times i have found the smaller ones will be on top (not always) and big ones will be under the ball of baitfish. guess they are catching the stunned shad that fall from the school being destroyed by the kamikaze smaller fish.
Nice to see you around here russ. I won't lie, I've watched some of your videos in the past with green ***. Fish don't grow that big in my parts...
