I cant stop buying fishing stuff. It seem that something comes in the mail everyday. I'm also finding myself in local stores buying some kind of lure or line or worms or something fishing related. I get emails about sales and the next thing I know FishUSA has a package at my door.
Last night I ordered 2 new Quantum PT Smoke G3 spinning reels. Now I'm thinking I should get some new poles for my new reels, it just don't stop. UPS is coming today with my new live bait cooler. I guess it really not that bad of a problem to have
I've been suffering from the same illness in the last six months. I have bought 2 St. Croix Legend Elites, 2 Legend Extreme's, 2 Legend Tournament (one bass and the other walleye from a friends widow) 4 Shimano Stradic's Ci4+'s, line, plastics etc... I told myself the other day it's time to stop.
This problem always seems to happen to me in that dreaded thing called winter! Usually once I get to fishing I don't buy a whole lot, but when I am sitting around not being able to fish is when that monkey comes for me! Although I did buy a boat a month ago and the money has been cut off so really don't have a choice! haha A buddy and I look at it this way, there are far worse things you could be spending money on and addicted to.
The last couple days were bad for me (well...good for me, bad for my bank account). I have a fishing Instagram to follow lure makers, companies and general fishing. So when some sale happens or someone releases a batch of something... I usually know about it. I have a small mental list of "buy now, think later" lures (mostly swimbaits) where if I see them up for sale I just get them cause they go so fast. I had like three or four baits from that list drop the last two days. Gonna be a fun week of getting packages but a painful week of paying off the card lol.
I had the ridiculous idea of just "testing" the big swimbait deal. Very Bad Idea. The enormous array of standard size tackle it took me years to amass is now all too small. For those thinking about putting a toe into the giant bait category, beware. The tackle monkey becomes the tackle gorilla.
@Just_Fishin, welcome to Bass Resource, where WE ALL have that problem in one form or another with the bait monkey! So, you’re in the right place and in my opinion there’s nothing like having Christmas a couple times a month ????

Yea, the "Im just looking for something to throw swaver 168s and mini slammers" quickly turns into "which custom rod builder has the best rod suited to 9oz glide baits?". I'm not there yet but there's no stopping it once it starts.
There's no hope for us..we have fishituss and there's no cure...
The Bait Monkey strikes again...
You could be spending your money on stuff a lot worse than fishing equipment, if you know what I mean.
Buying fever subsides a bit this time of year. Funny, the rods and reels that I think can be improved on during the winter become everyday hard working tools. I grab what I need for the technique of the day and get to work with no issues with them. Go figure.
you don't have any problems that i can see.........nothing at all.......you're normal......accept it.......embrace it.....
I hear ya. I'm the same way. It's a sickness.
Any time I take a friend out on my boat, I hear this every time: "Do you even use half of this sh--"?!! Or, "how many rods can you even use at once"?!
Is carrying fifteen rods and reels on my kayak too much? I also have to decide which ones get to come fishing or stay home.

You're not alone, same here. My wife actually puts snacks out for delivery people, they are sometimes here 4-5 days a week
It has died down, but I got a box yesterday and looking side it I was like "why the heck did I order all these crankbaits?!?!" I think they were on sale.
For a while it was reels, rods, and tackle. Now its a trickle of tackle...I think I'm getting it under control.
I went to Cabelas the other day and had like 3 small things in my cart after browsing every aisle...that's a first!
Stop watching videos and reading tips threads, that will also help.
I try to limit rods to 6. Two groups of 3, one in each hand to carry to the boat. Any more than that and I have to spend time managing lures and such more than I like.
My gosh, I have the same thing! I have slowed down a bit lately, but I bet I’ve spent close to $2,500 on tackle the last year or so, including rods/reels, line, tackle bags, etc etc. I gotta stop watching videos, like Tacticalbassin.
There is good news: I don’t have any other expensive hobbies, this is it!
The problem I see (for my situation) is that you waited till the dog days of summer. My impulse buying starts in late Feb and early March. I'm already thinking about dove and deer season.
I spend my money on diesel fuel & heading to the lake!
Welcome to the family, this decrease is in the gene. Bait monkey, it is.

Stop.
All the extra gear is doubtedly going to help you catch more fish.
Its just going to pile up in your garage or whatever space in your house. You definitely don’t need it and a package everyday absurd. How much time everyday are you wasting browsing stuff to buy?
Its really a trap. Buying fishing gear when you can’t actually go fishing is a poor substitute to make you feel closer to the sport.
Save the money for a fishing trip say to Mexico or one of the big fish dream lakes.
No judgment, just my thoughts.
Agreed with @Dirtyeggroll, and I am as guilty as the worst offenders on here. I'm an absolute gear fanatic. I have those boxes and boxes he's referring to. I've really enjoyed finding the great bargains and got a lot of enjoyment out of the actual collecting. We joke about it on the forum, and to some extent, it IS harmless, if your personal and family budget can allow it.
However, also consider your time budget.
Fishing is the number one thing will make you a better angler - and if you can find a way to channel that time to make actual on the water time, your obsession with tackle collecting will subside. That's what I've found.
That and looking after your health and those around you. Look at many of the best pros: Aaron Martens was featured in Runners World mag, John Crews is a fitness fanatic, etc.
Anyway, the last thing I'm trying to do is pass judgement. I'd be the world's biggest hypocrite if I was. My pile still keeps growing - but the rate is diminishing, and I've found I feel healthier and I'm a better angler for it.

Me too. But it’s just so much fun to get new stuff. As long as you’re not going broke and neglecting other bills and going into debt, it’s relatively harmless.
I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing or both that the monkey is strong in these here folk.
I’m glad I’m disciplined enough to not be swayed in such a manner. ????
Buying stuff is part of the fun of bass fishing. And think about it, 20 to 30 dollars here or there is nothing compared to some hobbies. Enjoy it while you can, but don't screw yourself up financially.
I have finally learned some discipline on buying lures. After replacing new lures that I never fished with newer lures I bought it became ridiculous. Now I just buy known productive lures on sale and tackle making supplies. If I find something that really interests me I buy it but no more bulk purchases of the latest bait.

Let me know if I could help you relieve your illnesses. preferably those reels
I have the same illness " see something say something" I'll buy it. ????
I used to have the same problem. No matter how hard I tried I could never get the Bait Monkey off of my back. Then I got married. My wife not only got the Bait Monkey off my back, he can't even get in the house. Good news is, I was the Bait Monkeys best friend for over 35 years. Will be a long time before I really need to buy any new tackle to catch fish.

It might be true that he can’t get in the house, but he’s always waiting to jump on like a backpack once you exit, lol.
You’re all sick. If buying tackle and gear were a drug, You’d all be put away for good. Shame on all you all, wasting money on lures that will stay in your garage for decades and never be used and worse, all those rods that have become gloried dust collectors. Now if you’ll excuse me, BPS is on next exit. I’m gonna see if that fish eagle 2 two piece MH casting rod has dropped down in price and if Yamamoto 297s and whopper plopper are finally back in stock. I also need some more of those trds for my ned heads. Still debating if I should drop $40 on tatsu or $8 on tonkatsu. ????????????
