I have have searched a lot of old posts on here talking about lure retrievers and what types people like. One I was looking at was the Lews David Fritts Get'R Back Lure Retriever but I did not see anyone really mention it. Is that because it is not very effective or just not many people try it before?

Do fish a lot of water greater than 15ft deep? If not a lure retriever pole is in my opinion the best option.

I am envisioning needing something that goes deeper than 15 feet.

Telescoping 18' Frabill is what I use and it reaches everything I need it to.

I was initially thinking about that very model. May still go that route. Just wanted to see what option I would choose if I went with the "other style" of lure retriever.

It's nice because it allows me to reach not only down, but out at baits stuck on the bank/rocks, or up in the trees. I have probably a 95% recovery ratio with it. If I can reach it, I can almost always get it back.

I used the David Fritts retriever for year. Not 100% but pretty good, saved a lot of crankbaits.

95% of the time I use my pole. If it is deeper than that, I have a 5 oz saltwater sinker on a big snap swivel that I place over my line. Also attached to the sinker is 50 ft of small diameter nylon rope. The 5 oz usually knocks it loose on the fall. If not, I can use the rope to pull it up & drop it again.

I use a Super Stick (push pole) for anything within 12 ft or so.
Beyond that, I use a fairly simple home made job that's been surprisingly effective.

A few months ago I scoured the internet high and low and this specific one cannot be found anywhere. I have thought about doing the retractable dog leach option but most I have seen top out at a 16" leach.

I have the Bill Dance ones both with and without the reel device. Get the one with the reel as it is a lot better as the line doesn't get tangled up. Lost 2 cranks in the past 10 years since I started using these.

I use the David Fritz one . Sometimes its difficult holding the rod in one hand , working the lure retriever with the other with the wind blowing you in circles but I get close to 100 per cent of my baits back .

Big Ugly Plug Knocker. . .on ebay. Much prefer them over a pole, or retractable system. Takes up less room than a large crankbait and works nearly as well as any others out there.

I use an 18' telescopic retriever. The problems I always have with the plug knocker is either the line isn't long enough or the plug knocker gets hung up along with the bait.

What would you guys recommend using when wading? Looks like maybe the Plug Knocker, Strike Zone or something similar. Sometimes stuff is just out of reach even with the length of the rod.
Do you ever break any lures or bills letting a 2-3 oz. weight slide down the line or is more of controlled slide and crash with a line tied to the weight? Do you tie a retrieval line to those?

With the chains I have destroyed a hook or two along with some split rings. Bait come back but sometimes the hooks stay in the process.

I use one of these with my Bill Dance retriever. Most times I dont use the winder, I'll just wrap it by hand. But it is nice to have when needed. You can pick one up at any type of hardware store possibly even walmart.

On this model I assume you thread your line through the metal coil and drop it down, correct? There is not slit in the yellow "triangle" that you also run it through, correct?

That's correct, just goes through the metal coil.

I use this one from Bass Pro and its saved me many cranks over the years. I spooled it on a old Quantum Iron round reel and it works great

Heard of this to retrieve lost rods so now I carry one.

That's the best idea that I am never going to remember when I need it. Still going to stick one in my kayak-tools box.

Use the Bill Dance for tough ones and I make little two ounce egg sinkers with a duo lock on end for plastics and jigs. Works for cranks to and is easy...just clip on and send down
