Buzzbaits In The Fall 2025

Fall weather has finally arrived in central Texas and so have the masses of shad. Huge schools of shad out here on the lakes i fish. Makes me just want to throw a spook or red eye shad right into the middle of these schools. WRONG. I've been seduced by these masses before, having spent many hours playing the odds that my one bait (I refuse to throw a bama-rig...yet) will magically get bit amongst the literal millions of other more lifelike options.
As much as is pangs me, I move off the frenzy and go fish isolated cover in less that 2 ft of water. Theres still shad around these areas though, just not the same overwhelming clouds of them that im finding on the channel bends and flats.
Over the past week or so I have found a buzzbait to be extremely effective up shallow. Jigs have been good too, and spinnerbaits have been ehh. I don't think people fish buzzbaits a whole lot these days, whereas spinnerbaits are thrown to death. That being said, I think the bass are less reluctant to bite a buzzbait. Anyways, been throwing around docks, pads, laydown, and emergent hydrilla, which has yeilded good numbers
So as archaic and awkward as buzzbaits may seem, go give one a committed chance. I think you will be surprised.

Do not try an 1/8 oz black buzzbait

Thats basicaly all I have been fishing with this fall. My weather here has been overcast for weeks and it has been a blast watching the fish attack on top with my buzz. Thanks to bassresource, I have that thing puring and screaching like crazy, and it certainly works.

Buzzbaits are my 2nd favorite topwater after Jitterbugs. Here in New York, an awful long ways from Texas, topwaters, not just buzzbaits, are effective in the fall, say, down to the low to mid-50s in these parts in my experience.

The only time I don't throw a buzz bait is in the dead of winter, or when I'm fishing deeper water. They are good early, late, or in the middle of the day. Since I told y'all that; you can no longer fish on my lake. (Tried to put a smiley on there).

Oh well, now that the rookie let the cat out, I'll fess up.
I was out yesterday with overcast skies, wind and cold temps and I killed them with a buzzer. In fact, other than one on a spinnerbait, it was the only presentation that produced. Shallow water, green weeds, and water temps in the mid 50's. Perfect for this.

Buzzbait is my go to topwater except in clear water when I usually opt for a walking bait first.

seriously though. I've been dying to catch them on squarebills and lipless cranks, but seems like they will only take the buzzer around here. Water temp is still low 70's so we'll see how things change in the coming months.

Buzz baits are really great... like Catt said 1/8 oz black buzz kills it for me.. lately I haven't had much luck butniys coming soon I know it!

Buzzbaits what are they??? I've only caught four fish over six pounds, three of them were caught on a double prop prop buzz. Chartreuse and white skirt and golden blades.

I can honestly say I dont think there are many people in this whole country that throws the buzzbait more hours in a year than me. When water temps hit 52 in the spring til the low to mid 40/s in the fall. It is a bait that I have confidence throwing 100% of the time . There are times I never put it down all day or night long . I have learned so many tricks to trigger strikes with it as well. I flip-pitch skip them under docks In the nastyest cover you could imagine-you name it Ive done it and I have anglers =pro and amature alike say" what the heck are you doiung" My answer -"WATCH AND LEARN"
Tight now is prime time-Biggest fush of the year comes on the buzzbait

Thats awesome man.
Been bass fishing since i was a kid, but for alot of that time i had the opinion that buzzers were limited to specific situations. I've always known they catch bass, but im realizing that they are a very versatile tool. In my past two outings I ended up just throwing a 1/2oz clacker the entire day, after fruitless efforts with deep crankbaits, squarebills, and a jig.
I'm defintely a faced paced fishman so it's a style that suits me well.

The only way to learn how to manipulate a bait is to take only that bait with you next time you go fishing. That way you have no choice but to learn it-The alternative is to go home -then you are a quitter and a wuss-no room in my boat for them

agreed cavitron buzzbaits are what i throw 98.3% of the time
the other 1.7% of the time I'm thinking about tying one on

Buzzbaits are a killer for me as well, some of they craziest top water action you will see is a buzzbait hit.

I love buzz baits. My favorite catch to this day was on a buzzbait in a local river. My younger cousin was with me and i cast it out and ran it the full length down a log. I told him watch I bet I ticked something off over there and he gave me the "yeah right" look. I cast back made it half way down the log and BAM a very healthy 3 pounder. Took him awhile to pick his jaw up off the floor but the kid has been hooked since.

I live here in Delaware & been bass fishing off & on for 7 - 8 years. I have never fished with a buzz bait, I have tried a spinner bait a few times & never caught nothing with it. I have been fishing with soft plastics & a hula popper here lately in this fall weather. Haven't caught but 1 - 3 pounder in local pond. I'm going to try this buzz-bait thing when I get out the next time. Seem to be hearing good things about it.

I was actually looking for a black buzzbait today prior to seeing this thread. They had a 1/8 oz and I thought it looked too small, was looking for a 1/2 but you all are saying go try it eh? Been throwing a white one.

Most of the time the stated size of a spinnerbait or a buzzbait is the lead head and does not include the weight of the hook, wire, blades or skirt. Once those are taken into consideration a 1/8 ounce bait is more like 1/4 or 5/16, same is true for jigs.

Went out for an hour today with my new 3/16 black buzzbait without even a nibble. They obviously don't work.

Lol you were only out for an hour I bet if you stayed for 1 more minute you would have caught a fish lol then you'd be saying how they do work.
You need to keep at it the fish won't always bite everytime you go out some days they are on some days they are off. Today they didn't want your buzz bait that you were serving up for an hour doesn't mean the bait doesn't work lol. Keep at it
