SpinnerBait Fishing? 2024

Hey everybody I picked up a terminator spinnerbait in a bluegill color a while back and I haven't really thrown it and I want to learn I've been catching them on cranks for a lil while now and I want to try to switch to somthin else that I don't really know how to fish and that's the ol spinnerbait lol but I know you're supposed to throw it in cloudy windy conditions but will it produce on sunny days or should I just throw somthin else because we don't have many cloudy windy days but sometimes we do. Also where should I focus on throwin it like in cover or docks or just kind of any where? Probably stupid questions but I've never really looked into spinnerbait fishin but I wanna learn so if you have any advice help me out

2. Chuck it anywhere you'd throw a crankbait and a lot of places you wouldn't

Spinnerbaits are a great multi functional bait. Use willow leaf blades and burn them as a search bait in open water. Use a colorado blade to slow roll deeper water. You can bring them through timber or just over a grass bed to get a reaction strike. Cloudy days I like gold blades and bright days I like silver. They are an awesome bait for a newbie or expert angler.

Hit any cover you think holds fish, you can get it in some surprisingly thick stuff. You many want to consider a stinger hook if they are short swiping.

Oh ok so I can pretty much throw it in any occasion I have a Colorado and a willow combination and the Colorado is silver and the willow is gold and I kinda feel like it's too big for this fish in my river because I normally just catch 1 pounders to 3 I don't know if the big ones are smart or there on up the river but I haven't figured them out yet lol normally I just catch 2 pounders think that big terminator is too big of a presentation for them?

Maybe you'll attract a DD, that'll beat a 3lb'r 
If you feel it's too big you could always try another size/brand. I like the gold War Eagles in 1/2 oz.

The 3/8th once size spinner bait is a great all around size for bass bigand small.
Throw it anywhere's, my fab is on shallow sand bars and grass lines.
I use double willow leaf blade's at all time's, silver blades when the sun is out and gold when it cloudy.
I only use two colors, white and chartreuse, black at night.
I find I do the best when I don't do anything fancy just a slow steady retreive, if I want to burn a bladed bait I will throw a chatterbait.
This is what works for me, I hope the advice helps you.

Yeah I have the 3/8th ounce one and we have a pretty good bit of sandy points and sand bars and a Couple grass lines I'll definently have to try that out. Say you just slowly stroll it back to you over that sand bar? Thanks for the advice man I'll try it

Oh yeah that would be nice man lol but I'll have to check into those war eagles, do you normally catch bigger fish on them or will pretty much any size chomp down on it?

Yep just a steady retrieve, sand bars are like points if there is a lil ripple on it that makes it better.
As far as grass I like to let my bait run just low enough in the tops to hit the grass a lil and if I can let it drop down in the grass a lil more right before it leaves the grass line it makes it look like a bait fish breaking from cover get a lot of hook ups that way.

Another technique is a steady retrieve with brief pauses or jerks when you reel. This causes the blades to jump around and causes more flash in the water which mimics a shad that is wounded or struggling as it swims.
Do a search on youtube for KVD using spinner baits. He is a master at them and has some great pointers.

Bass have a habit of biting off more than they can chew sometimes. There'll be 10" bass striking 7" worms at times.

I throw a few different spinnerbaits, but my favorite all-purpose combo
is a War Eagle 1/2 oz Indiana/Colorado w/gold blades.
Except in very shallow water, after the cast I always wait until the spinnerbait makes bottom contact.
The 'drop' is a very important part of spinnerbait delivery.

Alright man I'll try that out but in that forum it sounded like y'all were talking about burnin it for just smallies we don't have smallmouth or I've never heard of anybody catching them in our river, Think it would work for Largemouths?

This will pretty much give you everything. My own personal tips: I use hand tied rubber skirts, the only trailer is a trailer hook, and I will throw them into anything - trees, under docks, bout houses, etc. Often, the deflection off the cover is what triggers the bite.

I don't know from where you got such misinformation about spinnerbaiting cuz to me spinnerbaiting takes place 365 days a year, 24 hours of the day under any condition.

Scott Martin made a video about spinnerbaits and he said that they excel in windy overcast condition but I don't know, You wouldn't think that he would be wrong. But you catch them on a sunny day and bluebird sky's on the spinner? I really don't know, I haven't even tied it on yet.

Bass don't watch Scott Martin's videos, bass bite spinnerbaits under sunny bluebird skies, under cloudy overcast days and at night. If you can, try looking for Bill Dance's video titled: Spinnerbaits A to Z, a great video about spinnerbaiting.

Do you spinnerbait fans recommend buying spinnerbait-designed tackle boxes for storage? I just cram them in my deep, crankbait-designed boxes for now and notice that it bends the wires.

I use 2 different spinner bait boxes. They do what I need them to do. One stores them without getting them damaged and tangled, and the other allows me to take them in the boat, letting me carry them in my regular tackle bag.

Thanks, Scott. I forgot to mention that too, my spinner baits often get tangled too in the traditional tackle box and I end up messing the skirts up - on occasion.

Lol true that. Alright when I get on the water ima chuck a spinnerbait all day this weekend and its supposed to be sunny Saturday and Sunday so we'll see if Scott or you are right lol Thanks for the advice man

The spinnerbait is by far my favorite lure. I throw them from spawn till the end of the year and have caught gotten quarter pound fish to hit full size 1/2 ounce spinnerbaits, its kind of funny sometimes when the lure with trailer is bigger than the fish itself, but they simply just produce.

I caught my pb 9.8 on a all white spinnerbait, cast it out, let it sink for a few seconds so it was on bottom and just started to slowly wind. Maybe 3/4 of a rotation around and got absolutely annihilated, set the hook and thought I was on a log... my other favorite way to fish it is to roll it past bedded fish in shallow water, did that yesterday to catch five fish in 10 casts. They just work.

All lures excel on windy overcast conditions .

Believe me, it's not too big, I caught 4 fish this weekend that were all 8-12 inches on a spinnerbait.

Hey everybody I'm back lol but I went out Saturday and it was sunny and a lil windy I threw the spinner on and off through out the day and I only got one to roll on it but that was it. I threw it on grass lines docks and some sand bars but didn't get any luck except that one that followed it out from underneath the dock and swiped at it. I also went out Sunday and it was cloudy and windy and I was throwin a crank in some wood and they started bustin behind us, I picked my Rod that had spinnerbait tied on and I chunked it out there and my spinner flew off Lol ? Well that's my report from this weekend lol I only caught like 5 on cranks this weekend and lost a spinner lol $hit happens. Hope y'all slayed em this weekend and thanks for all the advice on spinners I'll have to pick up another one sometimes and make sure my knots tight lol
