We talk a lot on these forums about tackle, boats, techniques, weather, lakes, and so on. I am very curious about what you all wear on your feet during long days on the water. I'm a big guy, and foot comfort is very important to me. I'm trying to get a read on this by watching the pros, and they wear everything from sneakers to flip-flops. Let's see what the replies look like...
Fish out of a pair of Columbias with mesh pockets on the bottoms and sides for ventilation...Love these shoes...
3/4 top sneakers for ankle support.
If it's during summer, sandles (Plenty of Sunscreen). If it's not hot, just my normal "Skater" shoes (Super comfortable)
Usually just an older pair of regular gym shoes. They are comfortable and dry out decently quick if I have to get my feet wet at the ramp.
I fish from the shore and like to have something waterproof in case I step in the water. Right now I use a pair of Red Wings Waterproof work boot. They are kind of heavy but very comfortable.
some old nike AF 1's
Crocs. Ugly looking, but oh so comfortable.
Vans
Nike Shox 8-)
New Balance tennis shoes.
crocs
wow i guess i am the only hobo here, i usually fish barefoot after memorial day or if i go somewhere i wear flip flops then take them off
I also use a rope for a belt (not kidding) ;D
QuoteNike Shox 8-)
x2. I have a special pair that's reserved just for fishing.
I usually wear sandals. I have a pair of rugged shark sandals the most comfortable sandals ever and they are made for the water.
Mainly from the shore: Crocs around my pond. Tennis shoes rest of the time. Been thinking about getting some light boots.
Steel toe'd boots (that's all I have except some fancy dress shoes that I try as hard as I can not to wear them) ;D
Fer real all !!
croc flip flops in the summer and adidas running shoes any other time
i usually fish barefoot, its just how i roll. 8-)
if not barefoot, my nike shox black on black
You girls must not fish when it's cold!
thats what its all about
I'm with you RW
L-R North Face Gore-Tex Ultra XCR , Grizzly 1200g Sierra's, GI Micky Boot (good to -20)
In the warmer months, I use either the North Face Gore-Tex or flip flops
When It's cold like right now. I'll wear my insulated hunting boots. Otherwise I'll wear flip flops.
I'm not sure if they still make them, but I found a pair of Adida Mali shoes that are awesome!
It's a regular looking lowtop tennis shoe, but it has a thick vented squishy insert and drains in the bottom of the shoe. Good traction and comfortable enough for 10 hours on one foot.
Just don't step in the puddles with them or the bottom of your socks will be wet.
Whatever is on my feet at the time. I used to have a pair of Solomon Aquamphibians. Best shoes ever, but the puppy liked them more than me. Here lately it's been my house slippers, because they're so warm and comfy.
If its even close to warm its flip flops, till i get in to the boat and then they come off immediatly then usually my shirt.... not pretty but comfortable... ask nuclearpenguin he has seen this sight
QuoteYou girls must not fish when it's cold!
nope. ;D
North Face, light weight, comfortable and air-drys pretty well.
If I'm shore fishing when it's cold, I just wear my hunting boots. On the boat, I wear my Sperry top-siders or Sperry Figawi's.
Falcon
If its really cold weather I've got a pair of Merrell hiking boots I wear. Summer if I'm not getting my feet wet I wear a pair of New Balance tennis shoes. For this summer I'm going to pick up a pair of sandals or water shoes similar to these Keen's.

Whichever shoes I put on that day-more often than not, sneakers
< 50 degrees - Goretex thinsulate hiking boots with smartwool socks
> 50 up to 70 - tennis shoes
70> Columbia sandals
I also have a pair of North Face lightweight boat shoes that I like.
Flip flops when it is worm, Good ole' Steel toes when it is cold.
Crocs when it is warm and New Balance tennis shoes any other time. I have to admit though that the tennis shoes are a superstition and I carry them in the boat even when I wear the crocs. I have been known to put them on when the bite is tough.
Asics Gel Kayanos. The cushiness of the gel pads in the forefoot and heel is great, IMO:o)
NB Tennis shoes for support for long days on the water. In colder temps I wear heavy wool socks with a poly pro liner sock under them. They keep you feet warm and I figure if I'd fall in I can swim in them better than a pair of heavy boots.
I tried the barefoot thing in the heat of summer once. Only problem is I'm a guy that always has at least a half dozen rods on the deck. It only takes one #2 treble in your big toe to make you keep your shoes on. No matter how hot it gets.
