I just recently stocked up on a bunch of different sizes and colors of Senkos.
I didn’t realize how quickly that added up and got a little bit expensive.
In the the future I may consider a cheaper brand. Is there a big difference between Senkos and Dingers, or other cheaper brands?
Thankyou
When I first started using stickbaits, I ran into the same thing as you. To save some money, I purchased some BPS Stickos and Yum Dingers. I found those baits to be more durable, but that turned out to be a problem. When Wacky rigged, Senko's have a subtle action on the fall that the other brands seem not to have.
I would say if you are Neko rigging the stickbait, brand may not be as important. However, if you are fishing them weightless, either T-rigged or wacky, then a Senko will outperform other brands.
The biggest difference is that all the other brands are more durable than actual Senkos, and, they are all less expensive. Senkos probably fall a bit faster than most others, but for me, the difference isn’t worth spending so much more for the Yamamoto’s. I catch ‘em using all the brands.
The guys at Tactical Bassin just did a video about them. There were some differences in them. I recommend checking it out.
I use stick-o's all the time and have for about 15 years. They are cheaper and work just as good as senkos. I use the 4" more than any other size, but have caught good numbers on all the sizes. I use as light a bullet weight as I can, depending on the depth of the water, and wind. 1/32 is my fav weight because it gives the slow fall and the most action on a slight jerk. I have caught large and small mouth from Ohio to Florida where I live. Watermelon red is my fav color, 4", with a 1/32 weight. Throw in the heavy cover and let it settle. Jerk it out with pauses between jerks. It has caught fish of all sizes including Peacocks, and LM up to 9 lbs. I use 15 pound floro because of clear water, the line sinks, is very sensitive, and not visible in clear water. The line is very strong, and abrasive resistant so I can get big fish out of the thick Florida cover. It is a very versatile bait and great for a variety of fish. Never leave home without them. Throw where the bass live and if you hit a drop-off let it settle to the bottom. Most bite occur when the bait first settles to the bottom. I have caught all kinds of exotics like Mayans, Oscars, Snakeheads, Peas, and Jaguars. Peas, and snakeheads require a fast jerking retrieve. Good luck, your catch rate should go way up.
Yamamoto has a lot of colors and great marketing. The fish dont care what brand they are. I have had good luck with every brand I have tried. I would agree that they may move a little better on a wacky rig. On any other presentation they are no better.
I catch more with the true senkos .I rate them EXCELLENT.
I have done well with yum dingers and stickos too. I rate them GOOD.
A good old Zoom trick worm works great wacky style.
Wave Worm Tiki Sticks are a good second choice.
I have used the Flat Dawg by Berkley for years. Very fragile but I sure do well with them.

I too like the trick worm better then a stickbait wacky. There is a lot action from a T/W with a slight rod move.

I throw Senkos, Trick Sticks, Dingers, Tiki Sticks, Ocho, & Magnum Trick Worm.
All have different rates of fall & different actions.
Depth can be the determining factor in how much you spend on stick baits.
shallow water 6 feet or less, Dingers are the best. $2 a pack at Dick’s if you buy 5 or more sale is something to take advantage of.
Anything 6 feet or greater, I like Senkos, Strike King Ochos or Berkley Max Scent the General.
closest thing i have found to normal senko is big bite baits stick worms. dingers just dont do it for me but the big bite bait is that fine line between action and durability

Exactly right
If I were fishing for $$$ GY would get the call. It's a confidence thing.
There are also a lot of smaller guys pouring and they make some great products that rival the performance of GY that are a bit more durable.
9I use the real deal Senko's. I fish some local, in town lakes, that get a ton of pressure. A 5" black w/blue flake Senko, flat out kills LMB in these "lagoons".
The Original Senkos, have out fished the Yum style in the same colors, by about 3 to 1.
They dont last as long, cost more and catch more fish for me. The catching fish part, being the reason I go fishing and keep using Senko's.
That fish and 4 like it were cuaght tonight on a 45 acre lagoon that had about 6 guys fishing it when I showed up at 715.

Nailed it!!
Has anyone tried boiling any of the non-senko stick baits to soften them up?
Stick-o's work
Started out with senkos but started getting expensive so went to yum dingers and have not looked back. With senkos at 8.99 and dinkers at 2.99 its a no brainer. Went to day used dinger wacky rigged and only used 2. caught maybe 20 bass. my key is if use weight let them drop to bottom and the and work it back. just got new dobyns 704 and sensitivity with the dingers was fantastic
For Texas rigged weightless or wacky rigged I use only Senkos. Maybe it's just a confidence thing but I catch more on a true GY Senko. For weighted texas rigging I use lots of different brands.
I throw senkos and Ochos, have tried others but these are my bread and butter and the only thing I will spend money on and recommend.
I guess I should disqualify myself from commenting but I just can't.
I'll make it simple......Fish what you have confidence in. There are always 3 camps on the Senko subject. 1. Those who will only use the original. 2. Those that have confidence in another brand of knockoff and... 3. Those who buy whatever is on sale. Nothing wrong with any of the three. You can argue the pros and cons of each until you are blue in the face. You are not going to change any minds. We all know what camp I reside in. I have my reasons, actually lots of reasons but they are my reasons based on side by side tests, years of use and proven results. Everyone has their own reasons and that's fine.
I find Senkos sink faster than all the other brands.
The only time I use Senko brand, is when I'm throwing it wacky rigged.
If I'm throwing weightless TX rigged, or If I attach a little spinner to the tail, I'll throw either Yum or Big Bite Baits.
