Best Face And Neck Gaiter? 2025

fishing user avatarn8cas4 reply :

I'm looking for some feedback from those of you who have a face/neck gaiter for sun (and wind) protection.  I'd like to be able to wear it over my nose when needed AND cover my neck (maybe up to the crown of my head the way most of the pros wear them.  I figure they know best about coverage for sun protection.   The gaiters all look pretty similar - is there one brand/item that has advantages over the others?  Thanks.

I like hoorag. Cheap and gets job done.

fishing user avatarjbw252 reply :

Buff - lots of colors & styles.

fishing user avatarJosh Crye reply :

i have one of those mission cooling towels from lowes.  it works pretty good when wet helps me stay cool and its like 50 spf or something.  not sure how effective it is on wind.

fishing user avatarABW reply :

Hoo rag fits loosely on me. I like the UV Buff.

fishing user avatarAObuk442 reply :

I use the under armour ISO chill version and am generally pleased thus far.

fishing user avatarJd_Phillips_Fishin reply :

It depends on what you want it for. The Buff keeps me warmer but really sucks in warmer weather. The Strike King gaiter is better for summer fishing.

fishing user avatariabass8 reply :

I use the SIMMS

will go over the crown of your head and has air holes in the nostrils so your don't fog up your sun glasses. I had it on all day today and didn't notice it was there.

fishing user avatarDocNsanE reply :

This Saturday I tried one for the first time. It was the hoo rag that came in MTB a few months ago. I wasn't using it as much for sun protection but for mosquito and black fly protection. It was comfortable enough, except that it did indeed fog my glasses when I had it over the nose. For that reason I like the idea of the SIMMS posted above.

fishing user avatarlecisnith reply :

I have one from Cabela's Guidewear. It looks like a condom for your head and is really scratchy on the beard, but it gets the job done.

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

I've used many different kinds and they are generally all the same.

I am currently using SaltArmour brand gaiters and they are pretty nice. They have some pretty outrageous designs- mostly targeted to the motorcycle crowd I assume- but their more subdued ones are great and their prices simply cannot be beat anywhere. They regularly have 60%-75% off sales on their Facebook page.

fishing user avatarMickD reply :

You said you want the best, not necessarily the cheapest, so go Simms.  My experience in tropical fishing is that all of the wicking type ones will work fine and be comfortable even in the hottest weather, but the nostril holes on the Simms makes it the best.  Might take a little practice with any of them to get them to fit properly.

fishing user avatarboostr reply :

I use the Hoo

fishing user avatarSonik reply :

I like my Buff. The designs are endless and they can be worn any which way from full balaclava to just at the neck. If it's warmer this weekend I am going to try and soak it in my cooler's ice water and see how that does.

fishing user avatarbasswrangler83 reply :

I have a Hoo Rag. I started wearing a boonie cover when I fish with it on, so I don't have to cover my nose. Like a few others have said, your glasses will fog if you do. That's my only complaint.

fishing user avatarMatthew2000 reply :

You could just a hole in the Hoo if it's that big of a deal. I wear mine different so i can't compa,in about it.

fishing user avatarJon G reply :

I use the Columbia Freezer Zero Neck Gaiter

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

I have a Under armor one it's super thin but works fine spring-summer. Cold days in fall I go for a fleece alternative.

Use promo code SLAYER75 and get them for $5 here http://www.spgapparel.com/shop?category=Face%20Shields. I ordered two, but haven't came in yet, so I can't comment on the fit/quality. Nice selection of colors

That's a great deal right there.  I ordered the 5 pack and it was $24.25 shipped.

I use SA Fishing gear.  They usually have some great deals from facebook.  I got two for $10.

fishing user avatarkikstand454 reply :

^^^^^^^ that link and Salt Armour are the same company. Don't know what's up with that, but I will vouch that its legit. I have 4 of them and they shipped quickly with no hassle and are great quality.

fishing user avatarjunyer357 reply :

Ive looked at several diffrent ones and settled on a simms. I liked the breather holes as well as the extra length at the bottom front n rear. Its the best design for what i wanted and valued. Wasnt cheapeat by far but i dont mind paying for quality/features if its What i want. My only complaint in it was price and wish it flared a lil more on sides. I normally wear a columbia upf long sleeve tshirt and have come home with a lil bit of color on my neck from the gap betwen the gaiter and shirt on my shoulder/neck. Easy fix if i just spent a lil more for collared shirts but i like the lightness of the t.
