There's a lot of talk on this board about the fat ikas, but you don't hear much about it other places. I'm afraid our little secret is getting out. They're mentioned in the newest Bassmaster. And my local Dick's is now stocking them. Ugh!!!!
I was about to buy some online at Bass Pro (through the banner of course ) soley b/c of things i have read about them on here, But I couldn't find them anywhere on the site. I would go somewhere else, but I wanted to use my reward points. May just have to buck up and pay for them.

BPS sells the Kinami Palm Tree which is EXACTLY the same thing (but the color selection may be a little different). You'll find them under soft baits>grubs or just search for palm tree.
Yeah, I seen that in Bassmaster too. (It was on the front cover!) The article also talked about rigging it backwards... , so not much of a bassresource secret anymore.

Just got some... Thanks
While it is a bummer that the secret is getting out, just be thankful that we learned it almost a year earlier than everyone else. And I'm confident that we will learn about plenty more new lures/tricks before the others.
Hmm... 8-)
This has been my #1 lbait for the past two years. I had some success with the lure last week at Lake Fork, too.
I dont know about BPS but Tackle Warehouse has got the Fat Ika.

Haha, "the others"
Isnt that the group of people on the show "Lost" ;D
Ok, so I am curious. Do you hook these so they look like a tube, or like a backwards tube?
Do you work them like a jig or fast twitches????
How good are they in cool water temps?

They are best rigged wacky style and if you fish them very fast almost like a spinner bait!! ;D
You guys said you wanted to keep this bait a secret right??? I crack myself up.....
My way:
Equipment:
7' spinning tackle, #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft, Gamakatsu or X-Point 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook
Rigging:
Skirt up, T-rigged, weightless and weedless
Presentation:
Cast on or near cover or structure in water <12' deep. Allow the bait to sink to the bottom on semi-slack line. Let the bait sit for up to a minute, then move it with a short (6-12") horizontal sweep. Allow the lure to fall back on slack, line. Let it sit for fifteen seconds and repeat until you feel you are out of the zone.
(This is exactly how I fish a Senko, too).

Trust me on this one.
If it's made by GYCB it ain't a secret.
Let me get this straight. From the pictures, it looks to be a very flexible tube, made by GYCB. Am I right?
What Avid said. This bait isn't a "secret" and hasn't been for years.
They just weren't very popular at first because most fisherman are too thick skulled to try out baits on their own. They wait for someone else to tell them what is good.
I seen an article about it in Bassin magazine too.
No clue what it is supposed to be, but man this thing works
Up until last year no one I knew fished the Ika and they were always easy to get at Dick's or Gander Mountian but now everybody is using these things and they are getting harder to find. For example, I bought the last 3 bags they had at Dicks tonight. So I guess the secrets out.
No one in my club but me fishes the Fat Ika.
I hope to keep it that way! I might not even sell any to my fellow members.
Brad
Glad I stocked up on some a while back I might go and try to see if they will sell me more for a discount http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1173046602
Forwards, it's a solid tube shaped bait,...backwards,...it's a freshwater squid,lol.
seriously, this bait in an 8,10 or 12 inch version would be very nice for saltwater.
Lures get popular very fast when the pros start admitting to winning tournaments with them.
I expect to see that shortly. I suspect that happening now, but it's still quiet.
We'll see.
The Senko was out in '97, but took a while before it busted out. I remember getting some Senkos in an eBay auction in '99 and thinking, "what the heck is this boring thing?" Of course, I got rid of them. Little did I know.
The Fat Ika may do the same thing. One thing for sure, if it does bust out, someone else will finally invest in making some copies.

the word has been out on yamamotos own forum for 2 years not to much new about it the fat IKA works, also try rigging it backwards
After today I don't care who knows about the Ika as long as the fish bite on it like they did today. I caught so many fish on the Ika, including an 8lb channel catfish, that I lost count. I went through a whole bag of Green Pumpkin with Black Flake. I was rigging it backwards at first but when the bait started to look tore up, I rigged it the other direction.
Just an awesome bait.
Today I caught a 2 pounder on the fat ika and a warmouth. He pretty much got his mouth stuck around the end of the bait. ;D
