Recommended Tackle Bag For A Big, Muscly Guy At 245 Pounds? 2024

fishing user avatarIamNewbie reply :

Looking for a tackle bag to carry my Plano tackle boxes and everything else. I work out and everything so I'm a pretty big guy, I've got a big frame! Haha. But what are some of the bags you'd recommend? I've looked at the Tackle Warehouse Angling Backpack and I like it, also Bass Pro Shop bag.

I'm looking for durability, efficiency in carrying tackle, and able to be worn on a guy like me.

Thanks!

fishing user avatarBig Bait Fishing reply :

go to a sporting goods store , grab some Plano boxes you use and take a look at their backpacks and test fit the plano's in different backpacks to find what suita your need , i did this at Wal mart and found a great backpack that is well built and fits all the boxes i need to bring . i put in it a Plano 370 deep , a browning large size worm binder , and a Falcon terminal tackle box , and the other pockets store my pliers , knife , reel wrench (10 mm) screw driver combo , scents , line , etc....

you should be able to find something that works , to make it foolproof , bring to the store what your gonna want to be carrying ...

by the way , i've had this same backpack for 7 years and it's still without any rips , tears , or broken zippers ..

fishing user avatarJaw1 reply :

I own the academy fishing backpack and the Browning fishing backpack and the Abu slingpack. The academy and bps bags do not have a solid bottom in them that separates the top section from the bottom it's Velcro. This causes your top tackle to fall to the bottom after the Velcro gets older. The blue Browning pack has a solid separator so it's better.in this aspect. The academy and bps packs carry more stuff but the Velcro gets to be a problem for me. Over the past year I've bought and tried about 6/7 packs and haven't found one that fills all my needs but the blue Browning pack is pretty close. The olive Browning pack looks better but has the same Velcro issue. If your just wanting a bank fishing pack with room for a few plastics and a Plano 3600/3700 then take a look at some of the sling packs. The Abu works good and doubles as a bag I take on my buddies boat for short trips.

I use a Cabela's Large Advanced Anglers tackle bag. They also have magnum and super magnum sizes.

fishing user avatarFishes in trees reply :

If you want a bag that you can carry, but other guys have difficulty with, just buy one of those large Magnum Cabelas bags, and fill it with your fishing gear and top off any remaining room with bricks.

fishing user avatarComfortably Numb reply :

Im about 210. DONT sit on an old Phantom Pro :)

fishing user avatarMaxximus Redneckus reply :

Im thinkin he means to fit 22" inch pythons and a 60" chest.just get a big backpack and fill it.still no matter how big ya are carrying lots of weight along with muscle mass you use a lot more oxygen to keep them muscles workin.good luck

I have a big body frame and broad shoulders. I think I'm like 15-16 inches across haha, darn genetics. But thanks for tips everybody!

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I've got a Cabela's Super Magnum that I used before I bought my boat. Last time I weighed it, it was something like 86 pounds. The shoulder strap would break blood vessels if I carried it anywhere. Thankfully I didn't do that often.

fishing user avatarCgrinder reply :

I have the Tackle Warehouse backpack and I'm not thrilled with it. It has all these cool pouches and webbed pockets that don't really hold anything and impact the overall amount of gear/boxes you can carry. However it is a nice quality backpack and it stands up by itself, which is cool. I use it for my school bag now.

I have the 3600 Plano KVD bag, which is pretty much the 3600 Guide Series bag in an atrocious color combination. It holds 5 3600-footprint boxes and four or five Rage bait packs in the side pockets, plus room for Boga, pliers, and a spare reel or two. It even has a big, rubberized mesh pocket on the back so I can air out lures and stick myself in the behind with treble hooks when I pick the bag up. Two thumbs up.

The Cabela's Advance Angler bags are sweet but the Magnum and Super Magnum are too large for bank fishing while maintaining any semblance of mobility. However if you're looking to turn fishing into a Strongman event, be my guest.

fishing user avatarjtharris3 reply :

I have the cabelas advanced anglers bag in the large. Holds 6 - 3600 sized boxes. I use the side pockets and the back mesh pocket to hold extra plastics. The front pocket holds 2 - 3500 sized boxes that I put my worm weights and my shakey head jigs in. This thing will hold a lot of tackle!

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I have 1 tackle bag, used off shore.  It's heavy because of the terminal tackle, it' sits on the seat.  Walking the bank I carry 2-4 lures in my pocket, doesn't take much effort.

fishing user avatarblckshirt98 reply :

Go to an REI or some other store with a good selection of backpacks to try on.  I have broad shoulders too and taking a backpack off and on can be a pain in the ass especially when the backpack straps are thick/stiff and it chafes your skin every time you take it off and on.  I've found the Kelty Redtail to be the perfect backpack for me because it's super light and the straps are very pliable.  Also fits plenty of Plano's and plastics for a day of fishing as long as you're reasonable in your gear selection.   If you're one of thoes guys that bring the kitchen sink even though 95% of the stuff won't touch water when you go fishing you might look into something bigger.

fishing user avatargardnerjigman reply :

The buff bob muscle pants bag.

fishing user avatarHeron reply :

Try one of these....it will hold all your stuff, and you'll look fabulous.

It has taken me way too many years to finally learn that working out effects everything!

Newbie one thing is sure: The bigger the bag, the more stuff you will find to fill it. Enjoy the burn!

A 20' bass boat would be perfect.

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

Secure a couple of straps to a Maytag refridgerator and use that.  It'll hold a LOT of baits and, especially, keep live bait healthy indefinitely.  Of course the extenstion cord might be a nuisance but a big strapping fellow such as yourself should be able to manage that.  ;  )

It will have to be aluminum. I don't think even a big strapping young man can tote a glass rig.

I purchased this one, it goes on sale for $40. It'll fit 7 3700s 2 3600s and a 3500 in the front. Even with all the it's compact for its abilities, I carry 5 3700s and my bags of ziploc plastics in the main compartment.

Mine came with 5 or 6 3700s too, hard to beat for the price.

I hope you didn't pay 79.99 for that one. They have been selling it for 39.99 since they came out. I bought one took it back and got the advanced anglers one instead. The Advanced Anglers tackle bag is a much better bag.

I take it you didn't read the line right under the link....lol.

At $40, its less then half the price of the Magnum advanced thats currently on sale.  A pretty good deal, I dont have a cabela's local to me so I was unable to compare in person.

You have to play it like I did. That one was in an ad for $39.99. My wife and I drive out to get it. Dept. Manager says it was never in stock. My wife says " we drove all the way out for a bagvyou never had"? He tells us to go find an equal value regular pricedbag. Boom, I walk out with the large Advanced Angler with 6 boxes for $39.99
