Best Topwater Frog?! 2025

fishing user avatarThomas Olson reply :

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone’s days are going well. Ive been thinking a bit about restocking the frogs a bit and maybe try a few new ones. But I thought I would ask some other bass fisherman their opinions. So what do you guys think is the best topwater frog? I personally have tried spro and the booyah pad crashed the most. I like them both but the pad crashers price is better. Anybody got any suggestions for better frogs?

Thanks and happy fishing!!

Thomas

No reason to get away from the Pad Crasher. I personally prefer the popping Pad Crasher. If you want to try something a little different then you could pick up a Toadrunner and give one of those a shot if you have enough open water where you're fishing.  I've fished a lot of different kinds of frogs, but the 2 you listed are the best 2 I've fished, I just don't think there's enough benefits to the Spro to justify spending the extra money unless they have a color that just kills it for you.

fishing user avatarjtharris3 reply :

I throw a frog a lot! I have several from different brands. By far the Pad Crasher has produced more and bigger fish for me!

fishing user avatarHeartland reply :

I have used the Jackall Iobee for many years.  One of the easiest frogs to walk, and needs no hook or leg tuning out of the box.  Tie it on and go to work.

fishing user avatarNittyGrittyBoy reply :

Spro vote from me. Black popping frog, black regular frog.

All you need.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Not technically a frog, but the Rage Tail Toad has been killer for me.  The Toad can be rigged

totally weedless which comes in handy fishing in the grass and pads.

My $0.02: Just buy other colors and the smaller size of the Pad Crasher models. I've got some other brands and they aren't better. The PC stays tied on my frog combo.

fishing user avatarBoomstick reply :

I like the Live Targets the best, but they're expensive. So my frog collection consists of about 40% Live Targets, 40% Pad Crashers and then I have a Spro, a KVD and maybe another.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Pad Crashers all day long.  For toads, I like the Yum Tip Toad and Ragetail Toad.

fishing user avatarkbeeb374 reply :

Popping frog: Spro then Pad crasher (I am trying the jackall gavacho this year as well)

Walking frog: Pad crasher then spro then the 65 size live target

Basically you are set with pad crashers and spros..

fishing user avatarRubberDuck reply :

I also like the pad crasher.  It walks well, doesn't take on water, and the price is right.

fishing user avatarrod snapper reply :

Another vote for the pad crasher, its simply the best in its league.

fishing user avatarpunch reply :

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Terminator Jr's yet. Those frogs are pretty phenomenal. This year i'm pretty much only throwing the Terminator Walking Frog Jr's and the Jackall Gavacho poppin frogs.

fishing user avatarbhoff reply :

I've been using the Deps Slither K and Buster K for a while now and they have produced the best results for me. Both are extremely easy to walk and have a great set of hooks. Probably the only lure that I can justify spending $20 on. Not too concerned of breaking off when using 50lb braid pond fishing.

fishing user avatarBrett's_daddy reply :

I have a bunch of different kinds (Spro, Jackall, R2S, Terminator) I really like the Terminator Walking Frog...it is so easy to walk and if I can make it walk ANYBODY can :D!!!

fishing user avatarJunger reply :

The Spro popping bronzeye in rainforest black is my best producing frog, I basically just keep it tied on my frogging rod and don't use any other ones I have. I did get an Evergreen SoftShell in black that I'm going to try this year. It has a semi-cupped face, and a fur type tail.

fishing user avatarThe Maestro reply :

Another vote for the Pad Crasher.  Not even taking price into consideration, it would still be the best imo.  Add in the fact that it's also one of the least expensive and it's an easy call.

In your opinion why do you think it has produced bigger fish for you?  Thanks in advance

fishing user avatarumckibben reply :

Hard to argue with results, pad crasher, close 2nd for me would be R2S bully wa

fishing user avatargreentrout reply :

give me the old school snag proof frog ... never saw a reason to change ...

fishing user avatarFishing_FF reply :

Scum frog.

@Mike L turned me on to them.

These frogs are soft, which allow the hooks to really stick the fish. The original series has Gammy (I believe it is a 3/0) frog hooks, but I prefer the stout and sharp Owner 4/0 frog hooks found on the Trophy Series line of Scum Frogs. Much cheap than some other brands I've tried, too.

fishing user avatarHarold Scoggins reply :

Pad Crasher, Live Target, River2Sea, etc, they're all good. However, when I need to move some cabbage, only the King will do.

I prefer Live Targets as well. They don’t hang up in the pads as much as the Pad Crashers.

fishing user avatarNorthernBasser reply :

Frog fishing is probably my favorite way of fishing.

It's hard for me to pick just one brand. Booyah Pad Crasher is probably my favorite overall. But I LOVE the Scum Frog especially if I'm fishing real thick stuff. I like the Pro Series. Already comes with rattles inside.

Jackall Kaera is a smaller frog that works great. Live Target in the Green Brown color is money. Jackall Gavacho Frog is another one that does well for me. Easy to walk and spits water quite well. Use in more open water situations.

75% of the time I'm throwing black color.

fishing user avatarSlappinKraken reply :

My favorite is snag proof Bobby's perfect frog. It's the only one I buy now, and I've tried most of the other popular frogs.

fishing user avatarCountryboyinDC reply :

Koppers Live Target.  They're twice the price of the pad crashers, but they seem to me like they're softer.  I bend the hooks up and get a better (still not great) hook-up ratio.  That's definitely the angler not the frog though.  The River2Sea frog has the best name (phat mat daddy or something like that), and so I bought one, but haven't caught a fish yet on it.  And it has to be wrung out every cast.

fishing user avatarNittyGrittyBoy reply :

Black spro popping frog, best one this afternoon

fishing user avatarIgotWood reply :

I feel like some frogs are a little hard. For example, Spro. The body seems hard to collapse and expose the hooks.

I despise Livetarget products, but their frog has been doing very well for me this year. I’ve been hooking up on almost every bite.

fishing user avatarjakkbauer reply :

another vote for pad crasher, and if you need a change toadrunner. i have a bunch in diff colors no need for anything else

Im not sure why. They just out perform all of the other brands.

fishing user avatarHarold Scoggins reply :

I've always heard that if you catch your PB using a frog, then you are a real frogman.
