What are your favorite paddletail swimbaits? 2025

fishing user avatarPatrickKnight reply :

Currently I really like the Keitech Easy Shiner in the Smallmouth Magic color but I hate how easy the tail tears off. What are you guys using? Specifically this is for a trailer on a jig head.

fishing user avatarthebillsman reply :

Keitech Impact

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

i have been using the stankxbaitco damzel here lately and like it a lot.  That really is the only one i use on a jig head though.

fishing user avatarRAMBLER reply :

Reaction Innovation Skinny Dipper and Little Dipper.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

Paddle tail swimbaits have been around for a long time . The first ones I seen I bought from a sports magazine back in the 70,s. They were made in France and had a double hook coming out of the belly. I dont remember the name  ,  something like Vivif .I never caught a fish on them . I have caught hundreds on the Mister Twister Sassy shad . This newest genertaion of baits I just havent used a whole lot . I had a good day with the Yum Money minnow. Another day I caught several bass on  brand that I dont know the name of. I bought them on clearnace at Cabelas and they have rattling eyes .

fishing user avatarprimetime reply :

If you like the Keitech Shiner try to find the Bass Assassin Version on sale. It is identical to the USA Keitech Version as far as I can tell. SK makes one Dicks has on the clearance rack, same bait, size, just different colors and scents....

I buy most of my stuff in bulk so I have no  idea who the manufacturer is but when I do by bags, I buy Gambler Ez swimbaits and now the Yum Pulse. Price is best and they are just good...But I have a box full of speed shad, Sizmic Shad, Keitechs, all the versions of that swimbait, same with skinny dipper.

However, the Zoom Swimming Fluke is really good and some days hard to beat....

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

I have a few and they all seem to have a time & place where one may be preferred over another.

In no particular order, Lake Fork Boot Tail Live Magic Shad,Berkley Havoc Bobby Lane's Grass Pig Swimbait, Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper, Zoom Swimmin Super Fluke, and lately & because they are new to me this season so I've been throwing them quite a bit, is the SK Rage Swimmer both the 3.75 & the 4.75 inch.

fishing user avatarMassYak85 reply :

Kietech swing impact fat and eco pro tungsten swing shad. The eco pro ones are relatively cheap and still have huge tail kick at slow speeds.

fishing user avatarWind Knot reply :

Storm Wildeye Live Sunfish

I take off the bottom treble hook and hop it off of the bottom or swim it along weedlines

fishing user avatarRobert Riley reply :

I've been using the Keitech Fats and Lake Fork Magic Shads recently. I used to use Reaction's Skinny Dippers. I also use the big chartreuse Powerbait ones on a naked chatterbait.

fishing user avatardoyle8218 reply :

Kietech swing impact fat

fishing user avatarMosster47 reply :

Fat Impact, Speed Shad, Cane Thumper, Grass Pig, and Seismic Shad.

fishing user avatarKDW96 reply :

Keitech swing impact. Used the fat impact also, but never did any better with them.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

Scaleface is thinking about the Vivif lure that had a rubber paddle tail, and later came out with a soft plastic version. Worm King was one of the first paddle tail swimbaits that dates back to the 70's with swimmers from 5" to 16", getting a start with salt water calico bass anglers.

Big Hammer came out in the 90's with their square paddle tail now available in 3" to 10" swimmers and are a salt water plastisol popular for both fresh and salt water anglers. Basstrix invented the hollow body paddle tail, still a superb swimmer.

If you want a tough 3" to 4" swimmer look at Big Hammer.

I had some of these. And couldn't buy a bite. Fishing a lake that the primary forage was bluegill . I actually gave them away.

fishing user avatarriverbasser reply :

Lot of good ones mentioned. I'll add the swim senko and kvd swimming shiner

fishing user avatarbigturtle reply :

Yum Money Minnow

That's a bummer, I've had pretty good luck with them

Agreed, they're a killer little pond bait and swim well for a cheap bait.

If money isn't an object, Keitech of some variation and Rage Swimmer. If I'm trying to be cheap, then I'm using a BPS Speed Shad or Havoc Grass Pig.

fishing user avatarsmalljaw67 reply :

River Rock Baits Striker swimbait, it is kind of like an Keitech Easy Shiner but it is 3.75" and it seems to be the perfect size for smallmouth and works great on the back of a swim jig. After that I'd have to say the my second choice is the Gene Larew Sweet Swimmer, those are really underrated but slightly smaller than the Striker.

fishing user avatarDrMarlboro92 reply :

I've been really liking the bass assassin boss shiners here recently. They have great colors and work pretty well. Another favorite when I'm looking for something in the 3" range would be culprit minnows.

fishing user avataribobpeb reply :

I alternate between my top 3: Z-man MinnowZ and DieZel MinnowZ, Keitech's Impact FAT, and Kicker Fish Tail Slappers.

fishing user avatarMickD reply :

KVD Perfect Plastics Caffeine Swim n Shad.  Very soft, full of action.  One usually lasts many fish.  (4 and 5 inches, 4 for smallies behind a darter head jig).

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

Keitech Swing Fat
SK Rage Swimmer
Jackall Rhthym Wave
Doyle's Custom Zipper

fishing user avatarbigfruits reply :

i havent tried many different brands but im happy with keitech swing impacts for swimjig/spinnerbait/chatterbait trailers and the fat version without a skirt or blade.

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

I'm a big fan of the Big Bite Bait Cane Thumpers, Yum Money Minnows, and a local company's hand poured paddle tails. I'm also looking forward to trying the new Eco Pro Tungsten Swing Shad.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Skinny Dipper for fast action

Big EZ for thump

This is what I use verses the Keitechs.  They're great, and I've caught a lot of bass on the Potomac with them.   They hold up really well too.

If the fish are not hitting this, it seems more often than not I can switch to the KVD Swimmin Shiner, which has a more subtle, tight tail action, and I'll get bit.
